Flue gas desulfurization gypsum is produced from emission process of fossil fuel power plant to remove sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) from exhaust gas. Production of flue gas desulfurization gypsum in Republic of Korea has been increasing due to the enforced regulations by government agency. Since flue gas desulfurization gypsum has characteristic that is similar to that of natural gypsum, there is a strong possibility for flue gas desulfurization gypsum to replace the role of natural gypsum. However, consumption of such material is still limited, only used for agricultural purposes or to make gypsum boards, it is necessary to expand the use of this material more aggressively. In this research, the chemical and mineralogical properties of flue gas desulfurization gypsum were investigated, and flue gas desulfurization gypsum with heat treatment was used to make cement paste. According to the results, it was found that flue gas desulfurization gypsum used in this experiment was a very high purity gypsum, and shown to have similar property to that of natural gypsum. Heat treating flue gas desulfurization gypsum above $100^{\circ}C$ was shown to bring beneficial effect on both compressive strength and drying shrinkage
This paper describes the development of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine as potential renal function diagnostic radiopharmaceutical and evaluation of its biological characteristics using experimental animals. l-Cysteine was labeled efficiently with $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl precursor $([^{99m}Tc(CO)_3(H_2O)_3)]^{+})$ under 30 min heating at ${75^{\circ}C}$. Labeling yield and stability were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The biodistribution property of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine in mice and its dynamic imaging profiles in rabbits were carried out. To investigate the excretion mechanism of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine, tubular transport inhibition test with probenecid was adopted. $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine was obtained with a high labeling yield under the moderate condition. The results of biodistribution experiments of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine in ICR mice at 3 and 90 min provided that $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine was very highly accumulated in the kidney and bladder, thereby almost 99% of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine was excreted within 90 min post injection. The same results were confirmed by the whole body dynamic images for 30 minutes and static images in rabbits at given time intervals after injection. Renogram of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine in rabbits showed that its $T_{max}$ and $T_{1/2}$ of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine were $2.33{\pm}0.56$ and $4.30{\pm}0.79$ min, respectively. The $T_{max}$ of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine with probenecid pretreatment was $2.30{\pm}0.17$ min, whereas $T_{1/2}$ of that with probenecid pretreatment was $17.0{\pm}32.47$ min. $T_{1/2}$ of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine with probenecid pretreatment was significantly different, as compared to the result without probenecid (p<0.0001). The results showed that the excretion of $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine was extremely affected by probenecid. Therefore, $^{99m}Tc$ tricarbonyl cysteine was rapidly excreted from the kidney principally by the tubular secretion.

A seawater pipe of the engine room in the ships is being surrounded with severely corrosive environments caused by fast flowing of the seawater, containing aggressive chloride ion and high conductivity etc.. Therefore, the leakage of the seawater from its pipe have been often occurred due to its local corrosion by aggressive chloride ions. Subsequently, its leakage area is usually welded by AC shielded metal arc welding with various electrodes. In this study, when the sea water pipe is welded with several types of electrodes such as E4301, E4311, E4313 and E4316, a difference of the corrosion resistance on the welding metal zones was investigated using an electrochemical method, observing microstructure, measuring polarization behaviors and hardness. The weld metal zone welded with E4313 electrode exhibited the lowest value of hardness compared to other weld metal zones. In addition, its zone indicated also the best corrosion resistance than those of other weld metal zones. Furthermore, all of the weld metal zones revealed a relatively better corrosion resistance than those of the base metal zones. and also showed higher hardness than the base metal zones.
The object of this study was to analyze influence which Black locust afforestation affected to soil, to research change of soil environment of Black locust planted stand and adjacent stands through comparative analyzing physichemical property of soil of them. It was investigated that the soil texture of Black locust planted stand and the adjacent stands was mostly SL. and LS. According to this result I could know that transformation of soil texture by vegetation easily happened because transformation soil texture results from the parent rock. I could ascertain that difference existed between Black locust planted stand and the other stands in soil pH and Carbon content of planted stand of Black locust pH, contents of Available $P_2O_5$ Carbon, Total Nitrogen. In other words, pH and Carbon content of Black locust planted stand were lower than that of Oak forest, higher than that of Pine forest. These results showed that Black locust was which fix nitrogen. I could infer that Black locust afforestation made forest soil fertilized. In soil of Black locust planted stand and the adjacent stands, statistical value appeared highly in pH and existed in content of Carbon, Total nitrogen, too. And high interrelationship appeared in the order of pH, C/N Ratio, CEC, Total nitrogen content was in each stands. I suppose that the trespassing extent of Black locust to Oak forest and Pine forest which are adjacent to planted stand of Black locust is different because of low pH, lackness of Available $P_2O_5$ Carbon, and what not.

Addition of two different salt mixtures of sodium phosphates, Ca-EDTA, $NaNO_2$ and sodium citrate were investigated for their effects on relative viscosity, textrue, sensory properties of kimchi and solids contents of kimchi and kimchi liquid during fermentation at $4{\sim}3.5^{\circ}C$. The salt mixtures were added into half fermented kimchi with the concentration range of $0.001{\sim}0.01\;M$. The results showed that higher values in viscosity of kimchi liquids were obtained for those fermented at low temperature and with salts mixtures added. The hardness of Chinese cabbage was gernerally increased until pH 4.0 reached and then decreased thereafter for those fermented without salts mixture. However the salts added kimchi showed no decrease and a slightly harder texture measured at the late stage of fermentation. Soluble solids concentration steadly decreased in kimchi liquids for those salts mixture added while those without salts mixture were initially increased followed by slow decrease. Comparison of sensory properties showed that the degree of changes was reduced when salt mixture was added. Higher scores in fresh-sourness and acidic taste, hardness and chewiness in texture and lower moldy odor were obtained when the data was compared for those kimchi having the pH range of $4.0{\sim}4.2$.
To examine the characteristics of the antioxidative property of Buckwheat components, acetone extracts from a buckwheat, Suwon 5, was fractionated using five solvents. Hexane, ethylacetate, ether, butanol and water fractions were obtained. Butanol fraction showed the greatest electron donating ability and inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation. It also showed the most excellent activity in the superoxide radical scavenging activity by xanthine/xanthine oxidase-cytochrome c reduction system. Spectrophotogram of butanol fraction was similar to that of rutin. Superoxide radical scavenging activity was related to the contents of rutin. Inhibitory effect of each fraction on xanthine oxidase was also measured. Butanol fraction had the strongest inhibitory effect on xanthine oxidase and $IC_{50}\;was\;3.1\;{\mu}g$. The inhibition type of butanol fraction on xanthine oxidase turned out to be a mixture of the uncompetitive and non-competitive modes.
The in vitro digestibility and molecular and crystalline structures of rice starches (Seilmi, Dasan1, and Segoami) with differing amylose content were investigated. Segoami had the highest amylose content (30.9%), whereas Dasan1 had the lowest amylose content (21.2%). The molecular weight ($\bar{M}_w$) of amylose and amylopectin in Segoami was much lower than that of the other two rice starches. Segoami had the highest proportion (8.7%) of amylopectin short branch chains (DP 6-12) and the lowest proportion of B1 chains (DP 13-24). The relative crystallinity, intensity ratio of $1047-1022cm^{-1}$ (1047/1022) and gelatinization enthalpy followed the order: Segoami>Seilmi~Dasan1. Segoami showed substantially low pasting viscosity. Rapidly digestible starch (RDS), slowly digestible starch (SDS), and resistant starch (RS) contents showed the highest value in Seilmi, Dasan1, and Segoami, respectively. The expected glycemic index (eGI) of Segoami was lower than that of the other two rice starches. Overall results suggested that the digestibility of rice starch could be highly influenced by their molecular and crystalline structure.
Thermal treatment and ozone oxidation methods were examined to reuse waste activated sludge (WAS) produced from a livestock wastewater treatment plant. Analysis of WAS property was made to study usefulness of the recycled waste as fertilizer. From the results of quantitative analysis, WAS particles were found to be composed of 44.25 wt% carbon, 8.43 wt% nitrogen, and 1.35 wt% phosphorus. It was confirmed that the inactivation of pathogenic microorganism was required from the quantitative analysis of microbes. From the results of TSS, COD, SCOD, and pathogenic microorganism measurement, the optimal operating conditions of thermal treatment and ozone oxidation were determined to be 70, 10 min and $0.6L\;O_3/L\;solution{\cdot}min$, 60 min, respectively. The optimized thermal treatment and ozone oxidation represented the efficient pathogen inactivation and particle dissolution, respectively. However, the two methods examined were not themselves sufficient but they need to combine with another treatment for the effective reuse of wastes.
Low-density polyethylene(LDPE)/Linear low-density polyethylene(LLDPE) blends were prepared by the compositional quenching process, a new morphology control method. The blends were characterized in terms of melting and crystallization behavior and mechanical properties. The results were compared with those of mechanically blended and solution blended samples. From DSC experiments, it was found that the melting temperatures and crystallization temperatures of the blends were dependent on the blending methods. In thermal property, LDPE/LLDPE blends prepared by compositional quenching process were similar to the blends prepared by solution blending but different from the blends prepared by mechanical blending. This result is explained to be due to the domain size dispersed in the matrix. The elongation-at-break and tensile strength of the samples blended by compositional quenching showed similar to those of the samples blended by solution blending method but larger than those of samples prepared by mechanical blending. Also, the Young's modulus showed the same trends as elongation-at-break. The tensile strength of the blends prepared by compositional quenching was not as high as the samples prepared by the other two blending methods.

This experiment was carried out during the period from May to October 1998 to determine the effect of fermented sawdust swine manure application (SSM) on the herbage production of Japanese millet and soil properties in the Cheju brown volcanic ash soil. The randomized block design (T1 : basic chemical fertilizer, N 200 kg/ha + $P_2O_5\;300 kg/ha+K_2O$ 200kg/ha ; T2 : 1/2 basic chemical fertilizer, N $100+P_2O_5\;150+K_2O$ 100kg/ha; T3 : 1/2 basic SSM, N 100kg/ha, T4:basic SSM, N 200kg/ha; T5:2 times basic SSM, N 400 kg/ha ; T6:4 times basic SSM, N 800 kg/ha) was used. At the same application level of nitrogen 200kg/ha, the application of $100\%$ chemical fertilizer (T1) had significantly lower dry matter yield than that of $50\%$ chemical fertilizer and $50\%$ SSM (T2) or $100\%$ SSM (T4)(p<0.01). Dry matter yield increased with an increase of SSM application to N 400kg/ha level but decreased at N 800 kg/ha level. P, K and Ca contents of Japanese millet tended towards to decrease with an increase of SSM level. The application of chemical fertilizer lowered P and K content of Japanese millet in comparison with that of SSM (p<0.05). pH, available phosphorus. exchangeable potassium, Ca and Mg content of soil studied showed a significant increase with an increase of SSM application level (p<0.05). However, at the same application level of N 200kg/ha, there was statistically no significant difference between chemical fertilizer and SSM in those contents of soil after experiment. The bacterial number of soil among microbial population increased with an increase of SSM level, in June, 1998 (p<0.05), but there was no regular tendency, in October. The rate of bacteria to fungus in soil had a tendency to decrease with an increase of SSM level. In conclusion, it is recommended to use N 400kg/ha of SSM or N 100 kg/ha of chemical fertilizer+N 100 kg/ha of SSM for Japanese millet.
