The existing concrete beams can be retrofitted or reinforced by attaching carbon fiber or glass fiber sheet beneath the beams. Although diverse design methods and application techniques of the retrofitting are studied and developed, the testing method of examining retrofitted beams have not been put into practice yet. In this study, a bond delamination has been modeled and studied to provide a basis for the development of actual testing equipments. For this purpose, Gaussian and sinusoidal waves with 3GHz and 5GHz center frequency are used as an incident wave and 1mm and 3mm bond delamination under the reinforcement are modeled. In the modeling, Finite Difference-Time Domain algorithm is used to investigate the behavior of electromagnetic waves in concrete. The results have shown that 5GHz waves are suitable for the detection of delamination.

A single-phase PVPCS(photovoltaic power conditioning system) that contains a single phase dc-ac inverter tends to draw an ac ripple current at twice the out frequency. Such a ripple current may shorten passive elements life span and worsen output current THD. As a result, it may reduce the efficiency of the whole PVPCS system. In this paper, the ripple current propagation is analyzed, and two methods to reduce the ripple current are proposed. Firslyt, this paper presents notch filter with IP voltage controller to reject specific current ripple in single-phase PVPCS. The notch filter can be designed that suppress just only specific frequency component and no phase delay. The proposed notch filter can suppress output command signal in the ripple bandwidth for reducing output current THD. Secondly, for reducing specific current ripple, the other method is feed-forward compensation to incorporate a current control loop in the dc-dc converter. The proposed notch filter and feed-forward compensation method have been verified with computer simulation and simulation results obtained demonstrate the validity of the proposed control scheme.
Thermal fatigue of the coolant circuits of PWR plants is a major issue for nuclear safety. The problem is especially accute in mixing zones, like T-junctions, where large differences in water temperature between the two inlets and high levels of turbulence can lead to large temperature fluctuations at the wall. Until recently, studies on the matter had been tackled at EDF using steady methods: the fluid flow was solved with a CFD code using an averaged turbulence model, which led to the knowledge of the mean temperature and temperature variance at each point of the wall. But, being based on averaged quantities, this method could not reproduce the unsteady and 3D effects of the problem, like phase lag in temperature oscillations between two points, which can generate important stresses. Benefiting from advances in computer power and turbulence modelling, a new methodology is now applied, that allows to take these effects into account. The CFD tool Code_Saturne, developped at EDF, is used to solve the fluid flow using an unsteady L.E.S. approach. It is coupled with the thermal code Syrthes, which propagates the temperature fluctuations into the wall thickness. The instantaneous temperature field inside the wall can then be extracted and used for structure mechanics computations (mainly with EDF thermomechanics tool Code_Aster). The purpose of this paper is to present the application of this methodology to the simulation of a straight T-junction mock-up, similar to the Residual Heat Remover (RHR) junction found in N4 type PWR nuclear plants, and designed to study thermal striping and cracks propagation. The results are generally in good agreement with the measurements; yet, in certain areas of the flow, progress is still needed in L.E.S. modelling and in the treatment of instantaneous heat transfer at the wall.
In this paper, we propose accurate classification method of an EEG signals during a mental tasks. In the experimental task, subjects achieved through the process of responding to visual stimulus, understanding the given problem, controlling hand motions, and select a key. To recognize the subjects' selection time, we analyzed with 4 types feature from the filtered brain waves at frequency bands of $\alpha$, $\beta$, $\theta$, $\gamma$ waves. From the analysed features, we construct specific rules for each subject meta rules including common factors in all subjects. In this system, the architecture of the neural network is a three layered feedforward networks with one hidden layer which implements the error back propagation learning algorithm. Applying the algorithms to 4 subjects show 87% classification success rates. In this paper, the proposed detection method can be a basic technology for brain-computer-interface by combining with discrimination methods.

In this paper, the characteristics of contact surface damage due to fretting in a press-fitted shaft below the fretting fatigue limit are proposed by experimental methods. A series of fatigue tests and interrupted fatigue tests of small scale press-fitted specimen were carried out by using rotating bending fatigue test machine. Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscope or profilometer. It is found that fretting fatigue cracks were initiated even under the fretting fatigue limit on the press-fitted shafts by fretting damage. The fatigue cracks of press-fitted shafts were initiated from the edge of contact surface and propagated inward in a semi-elliptical shape. Furthermore, the fretting wear rates at the contact edge are increased rapidly at the initial stage of total fatigue life. After steep increasing, the increase of wear rate is nearly constant under the load condition below the fretting fatigue limit. It is thus suggested that the fretting wear must be considered on the fatigue life evaluation because the fatigue crack nucleation and propagation process is strongly related to the evolution of surface profile by fretting wear in the press-fitted structures.

It is well recognized recently that ultrasonic technique is one of the most widely used methods of nondestructive evaluation to characterize material properties of nonconventional engineering materials. Therefore it is very important to understand physical phenomenon on propagation behavior of elastic wave in these materials, which is directly associated with ultrasonic signals in the test. In this study, the theoretical analysis on multi-scattering of harmonic elastic wave due to the particulate with interface between matrix and fiber in metal matrix composites(MMCs) was done on the basis of Lax's quasi-crystalline approximation and extinction theorem. SiC particulate (SiCp) reinforced A16061-T6 composite material was chosen for this analysis. From this analysis, frequency dependences of phase velocity and amplitude attenuation of effective plane wave due to the change of volume fraction of SiC particulate were clearly found. It was also shown that the interface condition between matrix and fiber in MMCs gives a direct effect on the variation of phase velocity of plane wave in MMCs.
The lightness of components required in the automobile and machine industry necessitates the use of high strength components. In particular, the fatigue failure phenomena, which occurs when using metal, increases the danger to human life and property. Therefore, antifatigue failure technology is an integral part of current industries. Currently, the shot peening is used for removing the defect from the surface of steel, while improving the fatigue strength on surface. Therefore, in this paper, the effect of compressive residual stress of spring steel(JISG SUP-9) by shot-peening on fatigue crack growth characteristics in a stress ratio(R=0.1, R=0.3, R=0.6) was investigated, giving consideration to fracture mechanics. By using the methods mentioned above, following conclusions are drawn: (1) The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of the shot-peening material was lower than that of the un-peening material and in stage I, ΔKth, the threshold stress intensity factor of the shot-peen processed material is high in critical parts, unlike the un-peening material. Also m, fatigue crack growth exponent and number of cycle of the shot-peening material, was higher than that of the un-peening material, as concluded from effect of da/dN. (2) Fatigue life shows more improvement in the shot-peening material than in the un-peening material, and the compressive residual stress of surface on the shot-peen processed operate resistance of fatigue crack propagation.

This paper presents a new technique to reduce a large interconnect circuit with tens of thousands of elements into the one that is small enough to be analyzed by circuit simulators such as SPICE. This technique takes a fundamentally different approach form the conventional methods based on the interconnect circuit structure analysis and several rules based on the Elmore time constant. The time moments are computed form the circuit consisting of the interconnect circuit and the CMOS gate driver model computed by the AWE technique. Then, the equivalent RC circuit is synthesized from those moments. The characteristics of the driving CMOS gate can be reflected with the high degree of accuracy and the size of the compressed circuit is determined by the number of output nodes regardless of the size of the original interconnect circuits. This technique has been implemented in C language, applied to several interconnect circuits driven by a 0.5${\mu}m$ CMOS gate and the equivalent RC circuits with more than 99% reduction ratio and accuracy with 1 ~ 10% error in therms of propagation delays were obtained.
In transmitting compressed video bit-stream over Internet, packet loss causes error propagation in both spatial and temporal domain, which in turn leads to severe degradation in image quality. In this paper, a new approach for the recovery of lost or erroneous Motion Vector(MV)s by classifying the movements of neighboring blocks by their homogeneity is proposed. MVs of neighboring blocks are classified according to the direction of MVs and a representative value for each class is determined to obtain the candidate MV set. By computing the distortion of the candidates, a MV with the minimum distortion is selected. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm exhibits better performance in many cases than existing methods.
The cationic polymerizations of substituted oxiranes which have pendant energetic groups such as azido, and nitrato, are investigated theoretically using the semiempirical MNDO, and $AM_1$ methods. The nucleophilicity and basicity of substituted oxiranes can be explained by the negative charge on oxygen atom of oxiranes. The reactivity of propagation in the polymerization of oxiranes can be represented by the positive charge on carbon atom and the low LUMO energy of active species of oxiranes. Ring opening of the complexed cyclic oxonium ion to the open chain carbenium ion is expected computational stability of the oxonium and carbenium ion by 30∼40 kcal/mol favoring the carbenium ion. The relative equilibrium concentration of cyclic oxonium and open carbenium ions will be a major determinant of mechanism. The chain growth $SN_1$, mechanism will be at least as fast as that for $SN_2$ mechanism.
