Effectiveness of the Project Approach Method in the Scientific Problem Solving Ability of Children (프로젝트 접근법이 유아의 과학적 문제 해결력에 미치는 영향)

  • In this investigation of the effectiveness of the Project Approach Method the 32 4-to 5-year-old subjects (16 each in the experimental and comparative groups) were pre-tested before the Project Approach Method was applied (23 times over 7 weeks) in the experimental group while the comparative group had science activities using standard unit methods of instruction. Then, all the children had a posr-test. Data were analyzed by t-test and ANCOVA. Results showed differences between the experimental group and the comparative group in their scientific problem solving ability. Specifically, effects were found on 14 sub-factors, but no difference were found on 3 sub-factors.

  • The purpose of this research is to perform a case study for verifying problems of BIM application to the building construction project using Fast Track method. The object of case study is an actual construction project completed in 2013. As a result, some problems and solutions for those were extracted. The result of this study will contribute revitalization to the BIM application in the project using Fast Track method.

Resolution of Time and Worker Conflicts for a Single Project in a Max-Plus Linear Representation

  • This research develops a framework for resolving time and worker conflicts in the Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) method, expressed in the form of a Max-Plus Linear (MPL) system. Our previous work proposed a method for resolving time conflicts. However, in practical cases, both time and worker conflicts may occur. Hence, we propose a method for resolving both time and worker conflicts for a single project. We first consider how to detect a resource conflict. Then, we define an adjacency matrix to resolve the detected conflicts. Using the proposed method, we confirm that the resource conflict can be resolved through a numerical example.

  • Pipeline construction is a highly repetitive and resource-intensive process that is exposed to various constraints and uncertainties in the working environment. Effective look-ahead scheduling based on the most recent project performance data can greatly improve project execution and control. This study enhances the traditional linear scheduling method with stochastic simulation to incorporate activity performance uncertainty in look-ahead scheduling. To facilitate the use of this stochastic method, a computer program, Stochastic Linear Scheduling Method (SLSM), was designed and implemented. Accurate look-ahead scheduling can help schedulers to better anticipate problem areas and formulate new plans to improve overall project performance.

  • Early cost estimates are important to decision-making for a construction project. Moreover, the possibility of reducing the project cost is getting less as the project is progressed. Case-based reasoning (CBR), which can be viewed as an effective method for early cost estimating, is widely utilized recently. Early cost estimates using CBR have advantages over the traditional ones as they produce reasonable outputs and self-studying is possible by simply adding new cases. Case-based reasoning is composed of a cycle of retrieve, reuse, revise, and retain process. However, in the majority of research cases, they are focused on how to retrieve the similar cases, instead of revising the cases which is expected to increase accuracy results of cost estimation. This research suggests a method of revising retrieved similar cases in a GA-CBR cost model which is widely studied and utilized for early cost estimating recently. To validate the proposed method, case study is conducted based on Korean public apartment projects.

  • Since 1990's, many enterprises have implemented ERP System. Especially, they want to become an advanced company use ERP implementation. Already, ERP system come to high level which is stabilized and support independent business process of many industry sectors. Although most companies had previous good plans, but those are not satisfied. Because of failed to change management and had many problem about Project team operation. Therefore, important success factors for ERP project are change management and organization activation for Project team. The purpose of this study is suggest to improve method about team activation through analysis the Project team member's individual personality as a factor that makes the success of Project team. This paper studied success factors of project team and plan for organization activation. The results of this study can be used for a successful implementation of the ERP system as make of Project team consider of individual personality and administer a Project team.

  • ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) has been more popular but ITS project managements remain complex because of diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary processes of ITS. The multidisciplinary process enforces specialized competencies on ITS project managers comparing to other system integration project managers. In this paper, we derived core competencies of ITS projects from previous researches, built the hierarchy of the competencies, and employed AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) surveying ITS project managers and auditors with the hierarchy. Finally, we analyzed the difference of evaluation model on ITS project manager between project managers and auditors using Mann-Whitney U test. Additionally we suggest a method of building MECE (Mutually Exclusive and Collectively Exhaustive) structure for AHP using the HoQ (House of Quality). We expect our model to give some inspirations for raising capable ITS project managers and selecting a proper project manager for an ITS project.

  • This study was undertaken to develop a comprehensive scheduling method which applied the core concept(DBR) of TOC to PERT, and to combine Monte Carlo Simulation to revise the uncertainties of activities then to eliminate project duration uncertainty. Most of the project duration overlooks the fact that in spite of minimizing the project duration, the uncertainty of constrained resources still puts the reliability of project duration in jeopardy. For the contractor, however, the most important thing is to comply the project scheduling with the planning to reduce the uncertainty of the project activities, operational interaction and project duration. In order to demonstrate that the model can be used in construction project, the scheduling of a steel-structure project was used as a case study to verify the validity of this model.
