  • This study investigates the decision criteria used in the context of IT investment decision making and empirically analyzes the impact of IT project size and types on the importance of decision criteria. 5 criteria which have been extracted from the previous studies and industry practices are budget, financial benefits. strategic value. risk, and the degree of proposer's eagerness. Data of 120 IT project proposals have been collected from 5 companies including bank, insurance. and stock trading company. As results of ANOVA test. 7 out of 10 hypothesis have been accepted statistically. That is. the bigger the project size. the higher the evaluation weight of project budget and risk criteria and the lower the weight of proposer's eagerness. And in case of the infrastructure investment type. the emphasis is placed more on strategic value and risk criteria and less on financial benefit and proposer's eagerness. These findings provide insights for both IT practitioners and researchers.

  • Construction industry ranks as the largest industry and imparts a significant part in developing and achieving the aims of society. Due to the involvement of larger number of stakeholders, construction industry is complex in nature. The current study is designed to identify and evaluate the factors affecting the success of construction projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. To carry out the study, a questionnaire was developed in term of interview pilot study. The data from the questionnaire survey was analyzed through SPSS software in five groups to accumulate authenticity of 44 factors. Later on the ranking was done by relative importance index (RII). According to the outcome of the research, "Project Group" stood highest among the five groups with factor of "project size" at the top rank while "Contractor Group" stood lowest with the factor of "client size" at bottom rank. From the study it is concluded that the Project Group is identified as a crucial blockade in success of construction projects. By giving pivotal attention to project group, the projects could be successfully attained from factors of project size, materials and equipment, funds and resources and project planning. To focus on the factors of project group, trust of the province people could be restored in construction of projects.

  • A construction workspace is considered as a critical factor to secure constructability and safety of a project. Specially, optimized size of each workspace helps to minimize any conflicts between workspaces, works and resources within a workspace in the construction site. However, since an existing method for making a decision workspace's size depends on generally experiences of managers and work conditions of activity, it is difficult to perform safe works considering feasible workspace size. The workspace size is changed according to the quantity of resources allocated into each activity as time progresses. Accordingly, it is desirable that optimized workspace size considering input size of resources is determined. To solve these issues, this study configures an optimized model for deciding standard size of workspaces by simple regression analysis and develops a visualized scenario model for simulating the optimized workspace shape in order to support BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment. For this, this study determines an optimized resource shape size considering maximum working radius of each resource and constructs its visual model. Subsequently, input size of resources for each activity is estimated considering safety execution area of resources and workspaces. Based on this, an optimized 3D workspace shape is generated as a VR simulation model of a BIM system based on the suggested methodologies. Moreover, operational feasibility of the developed system is evaluated through a case study for a bride project. Therefore, this study provides a visualized framework so that project managers can establish an efficient workspace planning in BIM environment. Besides, it is expected that constructability, productivity and safety of the project will be improved by minimizing conflicts between workspace and congestions between resources within a workspace in the construction phase.

  • This study used meta-analysis to synthesize the effectiveness of the project approach. After reviewing 51 studies, we analyzed the effect size of 119 articles published between 1990 and 2002 using SAS 8.2 program. The grand average of the project approach effectiveness was 1.03. This implies that the experimental group that employing the project approach is more effective than control group by the 35 percentile. We also found that the project approach is more effective for preschool children group (1.21, 89%) than for the elementary school children group (0.88, 81%). Specific variables regarding the effectiveness of the project approach were analyzed and its consequences were discussed.

  • Size of building has a direct relationship with building cost, energy use and space maintenance cost. Therefore, minimizing building size during a project development is of paramount importance against such wastes. However, incautious reduction of building size may result in crowded space, and therefore harms the functionality despite the fact that building is supposed to satisfactorily support users' activity. A well-balanced design solution is, therefore, needed at an optimum level that minimizes building size in tandem with providing sufficient space to maintain functionality. For such design, architects and engineers need to be informed accurate and reliable space-use information. We present in this paper a conceptual framework of an agent-based space-use prediction simulation system that provides individual level space-use information over time in a building in consideration of project specific user information and activity schedules, space preference, ad beavioural rules. The information will accordingly assist architects and engineers to optimize space of the building as appropriate.
