  • Oxidative stress may represent a common link between chronic liver damage and hepatic fibrosis. In the present study, we investigated activity changes of sphingomyelin catabolic enzymes, such as sphingomyelinases and ceramidases by using dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-treated Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats hepatic fibrosis model as a hepatic fibrosis model. Twenty rats divided into five groups received: (1) saline; (2) DMN for 1 week, (3) DMN for 2 weeks, (4) DMN for 3 weeks, and (5) DMN for 4 weeks by intraperitoneally 10 mg/kg of body weight for three consecutive days a week. Activities of acidic and neutral sphingomyelinases and acidic, neutral and alkaline ceramidases were measured in the liver and kidney from DMN-treated rats. We found increased ceramidase activities from 2-week and/or 3-week DMN treated rat livers compared to control rat liver. Acidic sphingomyelinase and alkaline ceramidase activities were significantly increased in 3-week DMN-treated rat kidneys compared to control rat kidney. Therefore, sphingolipid metabolizing enzymes and sphingolipid metabolites are supposed to be involved in liver fibrosis, although further investigation is necessary to elucidate meanings of sphingolipids during the liver fibrosis

  • Recently, in the smart construction field, it is possible to construct spatial information of 3D data base quickly and accurately using drones, LiDARs and ARs,. Most public ordering institutions are pushing for the efficiency of construction work through establishing and announcing road maps and guidelines for utilizing BIM for the entire life cycle of construction. However, in most policies, the impact of 3D data on the entire life cycle is limited by only partially constructing and utilizing 3D data or by being mentioned. In addition, many public institutions, construction companies and planning companies did not actively utilize survey information during the actual construction phase, despite the possibility of using 3D survey information. In order to confirm the utilization of survey information, a total of eight private construction companies were selected and interviewed by experts. The analysis shows that most of companies lack the performance of drone measurements or have a lack of awareness of advantages, and among them, construction companies are relatively active. Based on these opinions, this study examined the usability of surveying information and examined measures to expand the utilization of survey information in legal and institutional aspects, technology development aspects and industrial development.

  • Environmental problems like global warming have now become important issues that should be considered in all industries, including construction. In South Korea, many studies have been conducted to achieve the government's goals of reduction in environmental impacts. However, the research on buildings has only focused on CO2 emission as a research target despite the fact that other environmental impacts resulting from ozone depletion and acidification should also be considered, in addition to global warming. In this regard, this study attempted to propose assessment criteria and methods to evaluate the environmental performance of the structures from various aspects. The environmental impact category can be divided into global impacts, regional impacts, and local impacts. First, global impacts include global warming, ozone layer depletion, and abiotic resource depletion, while regional impacts include acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical oxidation. In addition, noise and vibration occurring in the building construction phase are defined as local impacts. The evaluation methods on the eight environmental impacts will be proposed after analyzing existing studies, and the methods representing each environmental load as monetary value will be presented. The methods presented in this study will present benefits that can be obtained through green buildings with a clear quantitative assessment on structures. Ultimately, it is expected that if the effects of green buildings are clearly presented through the findings of this study, the greening of structures will be actively expanded.

  • The KSLV-II project with high difficulties technically requires thorough technical management during long-term life cycle more than 10 years for launching into space. The TRL is a quantitative indicator developed by NASA widely used all over the world to measure technology maturity of a system development objectively and consistently. The TRL is also used to make sure technology level and to establish a future direction in the KSLV-II project. The TRL has advantage enable to identify a technology level through quantitative indicators. However, it takes a lot of efforts such as trials and errors, time and cost to apply it to the project considering the project environments, and stakeholder needs. These include not only to establish TRL management plan from ideal, conceptual and abstractive standards/guidelines such as NASA's, but also to construct TRL management environment enable to apply and manage harmoniously. In the KSLV-II project, it is required to figure out current technology level and technology development trend in the future, to access conveniently, to share related data in real time, and to update periodically for the comprehensive TRL management. From the reason above, the TRL management environment was built by using the systems engineering tool already has been used for other system management data such as requirements in the project. It also could be accomplished a practical management basis of systems engineering from the traceability among system management data including TRL. • The main issue in software development is the ability of software project effort and cost estimation in the early phase of software life cycle. The regression models for project effort and cost estimation are presented by function point that is a software sire. The data sets used to conduct previous studies are of ten small and not too recent. Applying these models to 789 project data developed from 1990 ; the models only explain fewer than 0.53 $R^2$(Coefficient of determination) of the data variation. Homogeneous group in accordance with project delivery rate (PDR) divides the data sets. Then this paper presents general effort estimation models using project delivery rate. The presented model has a random distribution of residuals and explains more than 0.93 $R^2$ of data variation in most of PDR ranges.
