  • This study is to investigate the possibility of legislation that is the foundation of school complexation project and the architectural planning for the target facility as stipulated by related law. Since 2000, many schools have been established and operated in the whole of Korea, mainly in Seoul. However, on the frontline, there is still a lot of difficulty in carrying out the project due to the legal possibility related to the school complexation and the lack of understanding about the facility for school complexation as stipulated by the law. The purpose of this study is to present the possibility of the school complexation project based on related laws and to clarify the classifications of school complexation facilities which are stipulated by the related law, and to propose the foundation for the future school complexation project. The contents of this study were investigated through the literature survey on the theoretical review and related laws of school complexation, and various laws related to school complexation were classified based on this, and the possibility of school complexification prescribed by each law was analyzed. In addition, by classifying facilities subject to school complexation prescribed by the Act and analyzing the detailed standards stipulated in relevant laws for each facility, we propose the facilities that can be combined with school facilities, and utilize the data of this study.

  • Recently, various problems such as reduced productivity, insufficient inflow of skilled manpower, reduced quality, and concerns about increasing safety accidents have appeared in the domestic construction industry. Stakeholder of construction project are considering the Off-Site Construction (OSC) method rather than the conventional on-site construction as an alternative. Despite the importance of decision making in the early stage of the adoption of OSC, there is a lack of methodologies for rational decision making. In this study, a decision making system has been developed to derive the final construction cost score by deriving the project characteristics, selecting the construction difficulty index, and developing a cost model for each construction method alternatives to calculate the standard construction cost. Using this system, the OSC method can be effectively evaluated in terms of its feasibility in the early stage of construction

  • Recently, there has been a growing interest in SW education for non-SW major in order to nurture SW convergence talent. In Korea, it is a tendency to make SW mandatory for basic education to all students regardless of their major, starting with SW-oriented universities. Through a case study of programming lesson, the paper compared differences in academic achievements and difficulties of learning between SW majors and non-majors and between the humanities department and the science department. As a result, although there was no significant difference in academic achievement according to majors, the humanities department had more difficulty in implementing programs such as practices, assignments, and team project. Through the interview, lack of understanding about programming problem itself, lack of relationship with friend or tutor that can help assignments, and difficulty in learning motivation by piecemeal curriculum knowledge alone were the main causes. The results will be expected to propose the direction of SW education for non-SW majors.

  • Estimating the productivity of labor has relied on the experience and intuition of an estimator, or productivity data, such as standard in practical estimation. However, when new technologies and new construction methods employed in the construction industry, Dependence of a quantity surveyor's intuition is increased. This is because of the lack of a systematic methodology which models, estimates, and measures the labor productivity, Due to the historical productivity data is unavailable. Even thought project history data contains information that is important to predict the performance of a project, It can not provide valuable information to model, estimate, and measure the labor productivity. This is because 1) the absence of the productivity measurement system with consistency, 2) the difficulty of reusability of historical data collected. Therefor, this study suggests a methodology which build a productivity model by measuring the productivity of labor and collecting the historical data systematically. In addition, this methology is applied to develop a productivity model of shop-drawing and manufacturing process using descrete event simulation.

  • While the local plant market is reducing its volume, the plant market over the world since 2000s is rapidly expanding. The nation's construction companies, aggressively dedicated in launching out overseas plant market, increase the volume of orders in that sector, but there also are much difficulty in the project management as those projects ordered are gradually large scaled with more cutting-edge high-tech requirements along with comparatively higher risk. Though the local construction companies have developed their own types of measures to analyze the risk evaluation putting into practice, the specialized decision-making model for the overseas plant market or the risk measure understandable easily and applicable practically is not yet shown. This paper aims at providing the methodology to evaluate the risk by way of constructing the risk evaluation process in order to induce risk measuring elements through appropriate indexing system. Furthermore, through studying the risk management system, it aims to seek for a thorough risk management method from beginning of the project to the end.

  • The typical Critical Path Method (CPM) leaves it to the construction managers to overcome two problems in developing networks. First, the construction manager needs to prepare information on the type of activities and their precedence relations in order to develop a network schedule. Second, he or she can include space information into the network schedule such as the locations where the activities take place, only with difficulty. These two problems make it difficult for an inexperienced person to create a network. The purpose of this paper is to provide construction managers with set equations of creating a network schedule for multiunit projects. A space-resource combined network creation are presented in this paper, which includes equations for generating a list of required activities, their precedence relations, and information on their location. Information on the space (location) and the resource is the required data for this method. Based on this information, this method divides a project into a number of activities so that each activity contains the information on the location where the activity takes place and the principal resource required for that activity. Precedence relations are then obtained from the sequence of space and resource. This method has the potential to reduce human efforts in scheduling activities.

  • This paper aims to design a policy-assessment tool liking the Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) and the Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA). As a step towards the incorporation of environmental and economic considerations, the approach used herein takes the form of integrating quantitative information on environmental benefits and costs associated with implementing the project into the existing framework of the EIA. Our case study is an project appraisal of a solar energy plant. It is confirmed that the technique is operational, however, there are certain limitations for a complete assessment. The difficulty mainly originated from the omission of important information from each step of the valuation process. Alternatively stated, some environmental services are not identified, nor quantified, and nor monetized in the process. More case studies are warranted in the future along with elaboration in methodology of techniques. In addition, the construction of a database on environmental values will be required to accumulate reliable and systematized data. These are the necessary conditions to improving quality in application of techniques as well as providing comprehensive and balanced information to decision makers.

  • In the metallothermic reduction (MR) process used to obtain tantalum powder in one batch, it is difficult to control the morphology and location of the tantalum deposits. On the other hand, an electronically mediated reaction (EMR) process is capable of overcoming this difficulty. The effect of using $K_2TaF_7$ as the raw material and sodium as the reducting agent on the characteristics of tantalum powder are investigated. As the temperature of the reduction varied from 1023K to 1223K, the powder particles obtained with MR were relatively large $({\sim}34{\mu}m)$, while those prepared via EMR were of uniform $(13{\mu}m)$. In the MR process, the Ta powder recovery rate increased from 37% to 83% at 1123K in constrat with EMR process.

  • Since Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing(MEP) routing is a repetitive and experience-centered process that requires considerable time and human resources, if automated, design errors can be prevented and the previously required time and human resources can be reduced. Although research on automatic routing has been conducted in many industries, the MEP routing in AEC projects has yet to be identified due to the complexity of system configuration, distributed expertise, and various constraints. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the target subjects for MEP routing automation and the constraints of each subject. The MEP design checklist provided by a CM company and existing literature review were conducted, and target subjects and constraints were identified through process observation and in-depth expert interviews for five days by visiting a MEP design company. The target subjects were largely divided into six categories: air conditioning plumbing, air conditioning duct, restroom sanitary plumbing, heating plumbing, and diagram. The findings from interviews show that work reduction and error reduction has the greatest effect on air conditioning plumbing while the level of difficulty is the highest in air conditioning duct and restroom sanitary plumbing. Major constraints for each subject include preventing cold drafts on air conditioning pipes, deviation in ventilation volume in air conditioning ducts, routing order on restroom sanitary plumbing, and separation distance from the wall on heating plumbing. In this way, subjects and constraints identified in this study can be used for MEP automatic routing.
