  • This study analyzed change of nurse image after hospitalization experience. The data were collected though questionnaire survey on 87 patients, who were, for the first time, hospitalized for 5~7 days at five general hospitals in J city. The survey was performed during July 3~August 2, 2000. The nurse image was analyzed through the instrument conceived by Il-Sim Yang(1998) on the basis of four dimensions ; traditional, social, professional and personal. The collected data were processed through SPSS/WIN to examine t-test, ANOVA and paired t-test. The study results were summarized as follows ; 1. Before hospitalization, patients' score of nurse image was the highest in professional dimension, followed by personal, traditional and social in order. 2. The nurse image before hospitalization showed statistically significant differences in age(p=.009), sex(p=.027) and marital status(p=.000). 3. After hospitalization experience, the score of nurse image was the highest in personal dimension, followed by professional, traditional and social one. 4. The nurse image after hospitalization showed statistically significant differences in marital status(p=.002) only. 5. The difference of nurse image before and after hospitalization experience showed statistical significance in traditional (p=.007) and social (p=.037) dimensions. 6. The score of nurse image was improved in all dimensions after hospitalization experience. In conclusion, hospitalization experience helps improve the nurse image. Therefore, for better improvement of nurse image, it is necessary for nurses to offer their best care to hospitalized patients. In addition, efforts should be made to improve the social image of nurse, which showed lowest score.

  • This descriptive study sought to define the relationship between women's health status and the experience of Sanhujori, Korean traditional non-professional postpartal care after delivery and abortion. A convenience sample of 308 women in 7 provinces in Korea including Seoul were studied from December, 1994 to December, 1996 for two years. Mean age of respondents was 50.5 years and mean number of children was 3. The rate of abortion was 91.5% and mean frequency was 2.2 times per woman. 82% of respondents did not have Sanhujori after abortion. The period and subjective evaluation of experience of Sanhujori after delivery were decreased according to the increment of the number of childbirth. The health status implies both subjective health status women perceived and physical symptom distress women are experiencing presently, The respondents expressed the physical symptom distress as painful one. 56.7% of respondents perceived unhealthy, such as sick and 99.6% complained more than one symptom. The factors related to health status were the first and third experience of Sanhujori after delivery, such as the period and subjective evaluation whether she did Sanhujori well or not; whether or not of Sanhujori after abortion and menopause: the number of child: and age. at the level of 1% or 5% of significance statistically. The factors related to the rate of physical sumptom distress were only two: the first experience of Sanhujori after delivery, especially the subjective evaluation and whether women did Sanhujori after abortion or not. at the level of 1% or 5% of significance statistically. In conclusion. this finding reconfirmed the possible relationship between women's health status and the experience of Sanhujori after delivery & abortion. It provides a challenge to the professional care givers .to research further on the effects of Sanhujori on the health status. health recovery after abortion or delivery from the various aspects through the cross-sectional and longitudinal research for the refinement of the reality of Sanhujori not only as cultural phenomenon but as conceptual model for the appropriateness of intervention and qualty of care for desirable health outcomes. Besides, it is indispensable to refine and reestablish postpartal caring system by finding universal law through international & cross-cultural research on postpartal traditional care for women's life long health toward the 21C

  • Amid the growing importance and growth potential of venture firms worldwide, this study aimed to figure out the effect of new product development capabilities (NPDC) on the internationalization of Korean venture firms and the moderating impact of founders' human capital. NPDC is a core competency that can cope with the rapidly changing market environment and is required when entering multinational markets. Therefore, we subdivided founders' human capital into professional experience, startup experience, education level, and marketing capacity and examined each moderating effect on a venture firm's internationalization. As a result of empirical analysis of 1,362 Korean venture firms using the Tobit model, this study found that venture firms with excellent NPDC tend to achieve a higher level of internationalization. In addition, among the founder's human capitals, professional experience, education level, and marketing competency moderated the positive relationship between NPDC and internationalization. In contrast, the founder's startup experience was insignificant. The results of this empirical analysis explain the factors that trigger the internationalization performance of venture firms from the perspective of dynamic capabilities and suggest that the founder's human capital played an essential role in the internationalization.

  • The Professional Engineers Act (PE Act) of Korea reduces the competitiveness of PE, because of the lack of articles regarding guarantee of business scope and regarding continuous education. In foreign countries, after one passes the PE exam, he/she should register at the concerned government agency; in this way, a practical and systematic continuous professional development (CPD), along with management of work experience of PE, is carried out. In this thesis, the Professional Engineers Acts of different countries have been compared and analyzed in order to consolidate international competitiveness of Korean professional engineers. Also, the author of this thesis presented measures to solve the problems of the Korean PE Act.

  • This study conducted a survey on 163 parents in Korea to investigate their interest in plants, experience in growing plants, and perception on horticultural activity programs (HAP) for their children. Most children (80.4%) of the respondents had experience participating in HAPs, and most of their experience occurred during school hours in preschool educational institutions more than once a month (60.3%). The more interest in plants and experience in growing plants the parents had, the more experience the preschoolers had in participating in HAPs, which implies that the experience of the parents with plants affected their children's participation in HAPs. Parents' most preferred location of HAPs was preschool educational institutions, and most preferred time was school hours with a frequency of more than once a week (57.1%), which is more frequent than the current status of HAPs in preschool educational institutions. Parents also responded that the most preferred instructors of HAP has are those with a professional background in horticulture. Among the activities in HAP for preschoolers, parents most preferred cooking (M = 4.05) activity, and they did not dislike any of the activities. They responded that the facilities for HAP needed to be improved to make HAP more active in preschool educational institutions. Overall, based on the current results, developing suitable HAPs and facilities for preschoolers, fostering professional HAP instructors, and educating parents about horticulture would enhance HAPs in preschool educational institutions, thus providing preschoolers with many benefits of HAPs.
