  • This paper is about the energy efficiency calculation of the production facilities. In the paper-manufacturing industry, for example, the production facility needs much energy including electric and heat energy. So, in this paper, we chose a process in the model plant to calculate energy efficiency. To the Electric facilities, We calculated the energy efficiency of electric facilities by means of load factor and voltage unbalance of the motors. And to the heat energy, we calculated the heat energy efficiency by comparing necessary calorie and supplied calorie for the process. We performed all these energy efficiency calculations by using the measured data of a process in an operating plant.

  • This study analyzed the management efficiency of jujube, bitter persimmon, and chestnut farms using data envelopment analysis (DEA). And this study analyzed causes affecting management inefficiency of those farms using the two-step method. The main findings are as follows. First, as self and employment labor costs are increased, it is important to reduce labor costs which account for 60~70% of the total production cost. Second, efforts to improve management efficiency are needed as overall efficiency of farms were decreased. Third, a pesticide cost per 10a representing a level of pesticide had a negative effect or did not have a statistically significant effect on the management efficiency. This implies that expanding environment-friendly production by reducing pesticides is effective for improving the management efficiency. Fourth, as leading farms were more efficient than general farms, technology dissemination and education through leading farms are important for improving efficiency, and efforts are needed to promote exchange between leading and general farms.

  • To increase the productivity and product quality of customized baseball jerseys, this study developed a multi-variable system for a production process that efficiently controls diverse production management factors. The working time was measured through the establishment of a standard process where skilled workers and Chinese factory workers manufactured 5 sets of the same basic design jerseys. Based on the measured working time (1,136 seconds/per unit), the multi-variable process control system was developed, where hourly production management is possible according to the involved workers and equipment types. Each process was assigned accoding to the production management factors for a total of 28 standard processes. The processes were developed based on consideration of work characteristics according to the order of needlework of open-type set baseball jerseys with sleeves(the basic design of baseball jerseys)to result in a customized production system structure that could be set up with multi-variables. As a result, a total 12 types of systems were developed in consideration of the personnel involved and the number of equipments. The optimal production management system (with the highest efficiency compared to the number of workers)was A-2, B-1, C-1. D-2, E-2, F-1, and G-1. This system had extremely high efficiency and showed 99% assignment efficiency for the 7-person team. Though not optimal, possible process assignment for each working personnel is proposed as a reserve process in case work modification is inevitable due to malfunctions and the absence of equipments.

  • This paper analyses the relative efficiency and competitiveness of production structure for the industrial clusters(Ulsan, Changwon, Kumi, Wonjoo, Banwol & Siwha, Kwangwju, Gunsan) which had allocated in 2004 in Korea by the DEA approaches. The results show that except U1san, Wonjoo, the 5 industrial clusters have improved the relative efficiency in terms of input and output since they were allocated. And, the reason of the inefficiency for the 5 industrial clusters were not for the technical relationship but for the production scaling size. That is, by clustering for the industrial production firms, the economic effect came true throughout the production scaling size effects. Also, by the positioning approach for the production factors such as labor, capital, and R&D investment via production growth, the results show that Banwol & Siwha, Goomi clusters have effectively been managed, but Wonjoo, U1san and Gunsan are not.

  • In this research, the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) was applied to measure production efficiency of Public Corporation Medical Centers(PCMCs) operating in Korea. The focus of this research is triple. First, identifing convenience and usefulness of DEA to measure the relative efficiency among PCMCs. Second, assessing magnitudes of the relative efficiency for each PCMC. Third, adding insights into some factors resulting inefficiency in PCMCs. Then, in this paper technical efficiency and scale efficiency measured by DEA[introduced by Charnes, Cooper, and Rhoides(1978) and Banker, Charnes, and Cooper(1984)] were analyzed and a new separate variable was introduced which makes it possible to determine whether operations were conducted in regions of increasing, constant or decresing returns to scale(in multiple input and output situations). And a multi-factor Tobit analysis was conducted to see which variables are associated with PCMC's efficiency.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the technical efficiency of Annual Chestnut production in South Korea. In this study, technical efficiency is the maximum possible production for which a certain amount of costs is inputted. For analysis on the technical efficiency we used output-oriented BCC Model, and then we analyzed correlation among input costs, production, gross income, net income, and market price per unit in order to determine the cause of variation in the technical efficiency. As study materials, we used statistics for the forestry production costs for 7 years from 2008 to 2014. The study results showed that the maximum possible production and actual production in 2008, 2009, and 2010 were 1,568 kg, 1,745 kg, and 1,534 kg by hectares in the order which were the same values. Consequently, the technical efficiency of those was all evaluated as 1.00. On the other hand, actual production from 2011 to 2014 was 1,270 kg 1,047 kg, 1,258 kg, and 1,488 kg by hectares in the order and the maximum possible production was 1,524 kg, 1,467 kg, 1,635 kg, and 1,637 kg by hectares in the analysis. From those values, the technical efficiency was evaluated in the following order:0.83, 0.71, 0.75, 0.91. The lowest value of the technical efficiency was 0.71 in 2012, and the values of this increased gradually since 2013. It is indicated that the cause of variation in the technical efficiency was related to the relationship between production and market price, and there was a negative correlation with r = -0.821 (p<0.05). The level of maximum available production per unit area was between 1,488kg in lower limit and 1,745 kg in upper limit, and the average was turned out as 1,548 kg.

  • This study investigated the effects of fermented product from Bacillus subtilis (FPBS) on feed conversion efficiency, fat accumulation and ammonia production in broiler chicks. Sixty female broilers (strain Chunky, 7-day old) were divided into four groups and raised in individual cages. One group was fed a commercial diet without supplementation of FPBS as the control and the other three groups were fed commercial diets containing FPBS, either 0.5, 1.0 or 2.0%, for 21 days from 7 to 28 days of age. Water and feed were given ad libitum. Feed conversion efficiency was significantly improved in chicks supplemented with 0.5 or 1.0% of FPBS as compared with the control (p<0.05). The activities of hepatic acetyl-CoA carboxylase and fatty acid synthetase, and contents of triglyceride and cholesterol in the liver were significantly decreased in treatment groups (p<0.05) as compared with the control group. FPBS had no effect on the concentration of plasma triglyceride, phospholipids and cholesterol. Feeding FPBS at 1 % or 2% levels reduced ammonia gas release (p<0.05). The inclusion of FPBS at 1 % level may be recommended both to improve production efficiency and to reduce air pollution caused by ammonia gas release. For production efficiency to reach maximal profit, the inclusion of FPBS at 0.5% level can be recommended. Feeding FPBS reduced fat accumulation in the liver.

  • Small ruminants form an important economic and ecological niche in small farm systems and agriculture. Their current low level of contribution is dismal, and is not commensurate with the potential capacity for higher levels of production. The context for productivity enhancement and increased socio-economic contribution relates to large sizes of small ruminant populations; wide distribution across various agro-ecological zones and production systems; and diversity of breeds, where 66% of all goat and 57% of sheep breeds in Asia are found in China, India and Pakistan. The advantages and disadvantages of small ruminants over larger ruminants are enumerated with reference to adaptation and environment, small size, production systems and products and interactions with the environment. Discussion focuses especially on efficiency of meat production and niche markets for higher-priced goat meat, and inefficient marketing systems given an estimated 40-45% loss of income to farmers presently. Increasing the quantity of meat produced is related to live weight and the total number of animals at Slaughter, which in turn, depend on the total number of offsprings weaned and lifetime productivity. At the national level, priority attention is essential to build up numbers in concerted breeding programmes, selection for efficiency of reproduction and meat production, and improvements to make traditional markets and marketing systems to respond to the changing environmental and consumer preferences. Post-production systems are neglected and improvements are associated with collection, handling, marketing, slaughter facilities and consumer requirements. Potential opportunities to expand and benefit from integrating small ruminants into annual and perennial cropping systems remain largely unexplored. Important development imperatives include choice of species and better use of available breeds, appropriate production systems that match available feed resources, and linkages between production, products and by-products to markets. Affirmative action is necessary, backed by official policy support, institutional commitment and increased resource use, that can target poverty and directly benefit the poor, and shift subsistence production to a more market-oriented opportunity. These efforts together constitute the challenges for both the owners and producers of small ruminants in the immediate future, as also the will to accelerate increased productivity, improve their livelihoods and promote rural growth.

  • Advanced and innovative breeding and management of meat-producing animals are needed to address the global food security and sustainability challenges. Beef production is an important industry for securing animal protein resources in the world and meat quality significantly contributes to the economic values and human needs. Improvement of cattle feed efficiency has become an urgent task as it can lower the environmental burden of methane gas emissions and the reduce the consumption of human edible cereal grains. Cattle depend on their symbiotic microbiome and its activity in the rumen and gut to maintain growth and health. Recent developments in high-throughput omics analysis (metagenome, metatranscriptome, metabolome, metaproteome and so on) have made it possible to comprehensively analyze microbiome, hosts and their interactions and to define their roles in affecting cattle biology. In this review, we focus on the relationships among gut microbiome and beef meat quality, feed efficiency, methane emission as well as host genetics in beef cattle, aiming to determine the current knowledge gaps for the development of the strategies to improve the sustainability of beef production.

  • Anaerobic treatment of wastewater of the red- bean processing industry was carried out and discussed an anaerobic sludge bed reactor( ASBR) as a preliminary study to evaluate applicability of given processes. The dimension of reactor were same as 0.09m- ID$\times $1.5m- height. The type of substrate and the hydraulic retention time( HRT) were considered as experimental variables. The synthetic wastewater with glucose in the laboratory, the wastewater from the red bean processing industry mixed with synthetic wastewater with variation of mixing percent were fed as substrate. The hydraulic retention time was changed from one day to five days. The gas production, the methane content in produced gas, efficiencies of COD removal and 55 removal were evaluated as principal characteristics. With synthetic wastewater as a substrate and at a hydraulic retention time of one day, characteristics of ASBR was the gas production(12$\ell$/day ), the methane content of produced gas(60%), the efficiency of COD removal(92%) and 55 removal(30%). With the real wastewater and at a hydraulic retention time of one day, the gas production and the efficiency of COD removal of the ASBR decreased with the proportion of real wastewater. The gas production and the efficiency of COD removal with real wastewater only was decreased to 70% and 87% of those with synthetic wastewater only, respectively. However, the methane content in produced gas and the efficiency of 55 removal with real wastewater only was increased significantly by 1.25 times and two times of those with synthetic wastewater only, respectively.
