Purpose - We live in a world of constant change and competition. Many airports have specific competitiveness goals and strategies for achieving and maintaining them. The global economic recession, financial crises, and rising oil prices have resulted in an increasingly important role for facility investment and renewal and the implementation of appropriate policies in ensuring the competitive advantage for airports. It is thus important to analyze the factors that enhance efficiency and productivity for an airport. This study aims to determine the efficiency levels of 20 major airports in East Asia, Europe, and North America. Further, this study also suggests suitable policies and strategies for their development. Research design, data, and methodology - This paper employs the DEA-CCR, DEA-BCC, and DEA-Malmquist production index analysis models to determine airport efficiency. The study uses data on the efficiency and productivity of the world's leading airports between 2006 and 2010. The input variables include the airport size, the number of runways, the size of passenger terminals, and the size of cargo terminals. The output variables include the annual number of passengers and the annual cargo volume. The study uses basic data from the 2010 World Airport Traffic Report (ACI). The world's top 20 airports (as rated by the ACI report) are investigated. The study uses the expanded DEA Model and the Super Efficiency Model to identify the most effective airports among the top 20. The Malmquist productivity index analysis is used to measure airport effectiveness. Results - This study analyzes longitudinal and cross-sectional data on the world's top 20 airports covering 2006 to 2010. A CCR analysis shows that the most efficient airports in 2010 were Gatwick Airport (LGW), Zurich Airport (ZRH), Vienna Airport (VIE), Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Seattle-Tacoma Airport (SEA), San Francisco Airport (SFO), HongKong Airport (HKG), Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK), and Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG). We find that changes in airport productivity are affected more by technical factors than by airport efficiency. Conclusions - Based on the study results, we offer four airport development proposals. First, a benchmark airport needs to be identified. Second, inefficiency must be reduced and high-cost factors need to be managed. Third, airport operations should be enhanced through technical innovation. Finally, scientific demand forecasting and facility preparation must become the focus of attention. This paper has some limitations. Because the Malmquist productivity index is based on the hypothesis of the, the identified production change could be over- or under-estimated. Further, as DEA estimates the relative efficiency. It also cannot generalize to include all airport conditions because the variables are limited. To measure airport productivity more accurately, other input variables and environmental variables such as financial and policy factors should be included.
Encouraged by the investment in the rice paddy, the introduction of new varieties (Tong-Il), and the price support program, there has been great success in increasing rice production. Meanwhile, the demand for rice has decreased rapidly as per capita income continues to rise. Rice self-sufficiency has been attained, and a new over-supply problem is emerging. Moreover, the Uruguay Round Agricultural Negotiation would prohibit government price support for agricultural products. In October the Korean government decides the government purchase amount and support price, which works as the price guideline. All interested parties exert political efforts to influence the decision. The continued increase of the government purchase price of rice due to political pressure pushed the government purchase price above the market wholesale price in 1988. Also, the farmers preferred to sell to the government than to the wholesaler. This has discouraged the market mechanism, and the government is to take over the three functions of the market mechanism: stockpiling, seasonal price fluctuation adjustment, and circulation. Another big increase may cause the government purchase price to rise above the consumer price, which might lead to arbitrage opportunities for the farmers and suffocate the market mechanism. However, the current political situations limits the options for the Korean government. This paper argues that a supply control policy will reduce the social cost resulting from the high level of producer price support, and it proposes several second best policies: First, the production of new varieties should be reduced rapidly. Second, the old rice in the government warehouse should be auctioned or disposed of in order to reduce the government handling and management costs. Third, the acreage diversion program should be launched in order to control rice paddy acreage. Fourth, a social welfare program in rural areas should be introduced, since the share of population over 60 is increasing rapidly. Fifth, instead of the price support which is forbidden by the Uruguay Round, Korea should restructure the agricultural industry by developing new crops, by enhancing productivity and by improving the agricultural infrastructure.
This paper explored satisfaction and revisiting of participants on Busan Contents Market(BCM) programme in 2009. Specifically, this study conducted regression analysis for finding satisfaction and revisiting factors on main events, broadcasting-telecom convergence forum, broadcasting business marketing forum, world culture contents forum and BCM academy. Results show as following. Firstly, Participants satisfied on comfortable lodging and possibilities as international events, but not satisfied on facilities, managements, public relations, contents and service. In particular, regional attraction and interpretation service are one of factors for revisiting in BCM main events. Secondly, one of competition factors for revisiting intention in BCM main events is production and investment. Thirdly, contents, theme and qualities of presenters and discussants are main factors for revisiting in BCM. Fourthly, satisfaction degree on education contents and lectures in BCM academy is high and contents, time, line up of lectures analyzed as determined factor for revisiting. Fifthly, documentary planning, production and marketing with international investors drive to induce revisiting BCM. We discussed motivation and utility values for revisiting of broadcasting contents market.
Korean domestic electricity market is saturated through trying to find ways to overcome the limitations of the domestic electricity industry with overseas electricity markets. Korean electricity industry in the overseas market in order to pursue continuous growth, competitive and aggressive investment in overseas market is promoting. This paper attempts to apply input-output analysis to estimate the role of coal thermal power plant sector exports national economy. More specifically, this study shows what national economy effect of production-inducing effect, value-added inducing effect, and employment-inducing effect are explored with demand-driven model. Most motor cases adopt deep drawing products, which are excellent in waterproof functions, concentricity, right angle, and quality. In addition, the blower motor and seat motor, which are installed in the car interior and do not require waterproof function, adopts a multi-forming manufacturing method. The deep drawing process requires an expensive transfer press that can digest approximately 12 processes, such as drawing, trimming and piercing. On the other hand, products can be produced with low investment because the multi-forming method is composed of one multi-forming machine or one multi-forming machine and one press. The multi-forming machine is a high-priced facility that is mostly imported and a bending / shearing process multi-foaming machine, which was developed by domestic small and medium-sized enterprises, is not enough to reduce the production cost. An integral multi - forming machine is used as a limited working method for thin material and small products. A large product and thick material has a high shear load. A large product and thick material has a high shear load and uses a single crank press. After blanking, the worker manually feeds the material to a multi-forming machine. When the bending operation is performed in the multi-forming machine, it is transferred to the press again to calibrate the dimensions. This variance in work processes has resulted in lower cost competitiveness due to the lower productivity, quality issues, and excessive operator input. The aim of this study was to establish a stable and cost - effective production system through bending / shearing process separation and facility automation.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the causality among GRDP, patent, investment of R &D, and researcher among 16 Metropolitan cities and provinces in Korea. Using the annual data ranged from 1998 to 2008, the causality test for time-series data such as unit roots test and Granger causality test were performed. We estimate the Panel-Var of the four variables to find out the various Granger causal relations for two groups which are classified by the patent productivity. The panel data causality results reveal that there are bidirectional causality relations among four variables for the more patent-productivity group. The patent has bi-directional effects on GRDP and R&D. The patent cause GRDP and vice versa, patent cause R&D and vice versa. Patent not only has strong direct impact on GRDP and R&D but also has affected by the increase of GRDP and R&D through the interactive feedback mechanism. However, the causality patterns are somewhat different between the more patent-productive region and the less patent-productive region. There exists one directional causality between the R&D and GRDP for the less patent-productivity group. Such result may imply that the type of regional innovation policy should be differentiated between two groups. Regional economic policy efforts should be placed on increasing the knowledge productivity and on strengthening the regional competitiveness through the regional innovative infrastructure.
The study examines the feasibility of hosting the International Wood Industry EXPO as a part of the effort to establish Wood Industry Cluster in Jeollanam-do. The provisional EXPO period suggested by the study is 30 days between July 23 (Saturday) and August 21 (Sunday) 2016 and the proposed venues are Namdo International Education Center, Woodland, and Woodcraft Center, Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, and so on. According to the study, it is calculated that the expected investment cost amounts to around 4.5 billion won and the number of total potential visitors reaches 1,627,478. The study also predicts that the EXPO generates various economic effects and outputs that can be quantified as following; a production inducement effect equivalent of 344.5 billion won, an income inducement effect of 77 billion won, an employment inducement effect corresponding to 3,899 jobs, a value-added inducement effect equivalent of 143 billion won, and an indirect tax inductive effect of 32 billion won. Then, emphasizing the need for the organizing committee that can play an important role in managing the overall EXPO events, the study, based on the figures, concludes that the International Wood Industry EXPO 2016 is to be promoted at the regional and national level.
Hydrogen energy is emphasized as a substitutable energy of carbon-based energy system in the future, since it is non-depletable and clean energy. Long term vision of Korean government on the national energy system is to promote hydrogen energy by 15% of final energy demand until 2040. This study analyzes economic impacts of hydrogen energy development employing a dynamic CGE model for Korea. Frontier technology such as hydrogen energy is featured as slow diffusion at the initial stage due to the learning effect and energy complementarity. Without government intervention, hydrogen energy would be produced upto 6.5% of final energy demand until 2040. However, if government subsidizes sales price of hydrogen energy by 10%, 20%, and 30%, share of hydrogen energy would increase 9.2%, 15.2%, and 37.7% of final energy demand. This result shows that the slow diffusion problem of hydrogen energy as frontier technology could be figured out by market incentive policy. On the other hand, production levels of transportation sector would increase while growth rate of oil and electricity sectors would decline. Household consumption would be affected negatively since increase of consumption due to the price decrease would be overwhelmed by income reduction owing to the increase of tax. Overall, GDP would not decrease or increase significantly since total production, investment, and export would increase even if household consumption declines.

In order to carry out efficient investment and successful business in national geo-spatial industry, economic assessment on the field of 3D geo-information has recently emerged as a serious issue. Therefore, this study is intended to offer cost-effective evaluation scheme which are proper for 3D geo-spatial information, especially focusing on development of orthophoto and DEM. The study is organized as follows. The first section clarifies preliminary rules for feasibility by defining target work and category in order to estimate benefit. Then, this paper will be limited to consideration of production of digital mapping for target business which is expected to create high value and its benefit from cost reduction is suggested. Drawing from the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) methods, this study comprehensively described final result and implication to examine business value. Consequently, this study can suggest economical evaluation methods on 3D geo-spatial information industry, which takes up a considerable part of immaterial benefit and has difficulties in economic assessment and estimation. preventing a variety of errors in system operation in advance.

One of the oldest chestnuts in economic geography is this: Cultural and creative industries strongly gather in large cities and this geographic concentration of economic activities leads to regional development. Of course, depending on the circumstances, such a proposition still holds good. But, under the current paradigm shift to knowledge-based economy, it may be open to question. This study aims to investigate financing and knowledge accumulation in the film industry through an alternative framework for explaining their spatial distributions, "formation mechanism of economic space." From the fact that their production organizations are formed on a project basis, project-based financing structure in the investment stage and knowledge accumulation process in the production stage form both axes of it. Film industry as the most mature industry among the cultural and creative industries does not always concentrate in a certain place (industrial agglomeration) or show metropolis-oriented preference. This allows us to reconsider our long brooding theory.
