A Study on Classification of Apparel Product Quality Characteristics Based on Customer Satisfaction (고객만족에 기초한 의류제품 품질특성분류에 관한 연구)

  • Customer expectations and requirements for products play an important role in product planning for companies and decision making process for the consumer. These expectations are expressed by product qualities that consumers consider important when they purchase. Therefore, to identify quality elements that reflect consumer requirements would be a useful guide for companies. The purposes of this study are to find out quality factors of apparel product, to identify apparel product quality elements using Kano's theory, to find attributes of product which improvement are required. Women over 20 years-old from metropolitan areas in South Korea participated in the study and a quota sampling method was used. A questionnaire was arranged with four separate subject sections, importance of quality, Kano's questionnaires, and demographics. Data from 525 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. The results were as follows: Six dimensions of product quality(i.e., usefulness, performance, aesthetic, symbol, individuality and appearance) were identified. According to Kano's quality elements, performance was categorized into must-be quality which could lead to product dissatisfaction. Usefulness and appearance were categorized into one-dimensional quality which lead to both satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Aesthetic, symbol, and individuality was categorized into attractive quality which could lead to satisfaction. Findings of this study provide both industry and academic researchers with a guide to increase customer satisfaction in the product development process.

  • In today and near future, most of the commercially manufactured IT products will be evolved into software convergence product. Recently, the embedded software products is called as 'Software Convergence Products.' This phenomenon does not simply show the trendy fashion, but has the seriously implication that the functionalities of IT product is accomplished and evolved via software technology, not via mechanical nor electrical means. It will become true that the quality of the convergence product is dominantly governed by the software it uses. Meanwhile, we are facing with the threatening fact that software defects in the mass products will requires tremendous amounts of cost proportional to the quantity of the product. We can remind ourselves of the disasters that have been already happened, such as Automotive recalls, Smart-phone recalls, and others. In software engineering, there have been large amount of work done in software quality improvement for the past couple of decades. Software process improvement, and testings are the representative ones. But we are facing with limitations of those traditional approaches in current convergence industry; exponentially increasing software sizes and rapid changes in software technology. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the software convergence industry, the limitations of the traditional Software quality improvement approaches. We suggest a new approaches in software quality improvement in different angles of thought and philosophy.

A Study on Product Quality Improvement by Regression Modeling of Mini-Mill Process (미니밀 공정의 회귀식 모델링에 의한 제품품질향상에 관한 연구)

  • Mini-Mill process has been recently in operation at Pohang steel company, which enables more flexible steel coil production on customer demands. The effects of process parameters in Mini-Mill process need to be analyzed not only to make the process stable but also to improve product quality. This work aims to develop a regression model of Mini-Mill process using accumulated product data such that the process parameter effects on product tensile strength may be analyzed. The analysis shows that tensile strength is influenced mainly by the amount of components such as carbon, manganese, silicon, and sulfur. The effect of temperature is shown to be small. It is concluded that control of the components is much more responsible for both meeting the target and reducing the variation of the product tensile strength. Heat treatment is more useful in compensating tensile strength variations due to thickness differences and improving workability and other quality characteristics. More work is necessary for establishing regression expressions of the process that is reliable and accurate enough to dispense with the off-line inspection of the product tensile strength.

  • This study proposes an integrated monitoring system for data reliability improvement in a steel manufacturing industry. The data obtained from existing steel manufacturing process is not micro data which is gathered at the occurring point, but average value (macro data) which is gathered from the occurring point to ending point. This kind of macro data is not only difficult for a detailed analysis for an error causing factor, but it might cause a fatal influence as well on the quality of produced goods even if the error is within an error tolerance. And during the process of steel production, thousands of data is produced in a second, thus requiring database plan to manage abundant amount of data. Therefore, the following proposed system is capable of collecting as well as analyzing all the data generated from the process of product production. And the system was able to raise the efficiency of the database server by planning the database to handle large capacity data. Also, by applying web-based technology, inquiries and analysis of data with no limit on time and space was possible with PC connected to the intranet. Hence, the system was able to work on effective quality improvement of manufactured products, plus able to raise the reliability of the product. Also, accumulated data from long period of time was used for fundamental material for new controlling model, operation technology, and new product development.

  • The process of producing software differs in many aspects from that of traditional manufacturing. Software is not manufactured in the classical sense. Development of software more closely resembles the development effort that goes into design new product [1-3]. In this article, we first describe the foundations of process improvement, which all processes can share. The process improvement differences between software and manufacturing process are then discussed, and a defect driven process inspection and improvement is introduced. Based on the discussion, two experiments were designed and the results of the results were collected. Through the comparison, we found that some efficient quality improvement approaches can be easily adapted in the software improvement and that the inspection efficiency is also significant.

Injection Process Yield Improvement Methodology Based on eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) Algorithm (XAI(eXplainable Artificial Intelligence) 알고리즘 기반 사출 공정 수율 개선 방법론)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to propose an optimization process to improve product yield in the process using process data. Recently, research for low-cost and high-efficiency production in the manufacturing process using machine learning or deep learning has continued. Therefore, this study derives major variables that affect product defects in the manufacturing process using eXplainable Artificial Intelligence(XAI) method. After that, the optimal range of the variables is presented to propose a methodology for improving product yield. Methods: This study is conducted using the injection molding machine AI dataset released on the Korea AI Manufacturing Platform(KAMP) organized by KAIST. Using the XAI-based SHAP method, major variables affecting product defects are extracted from each process data. XGBoost and LightGBM were used as learning algorithms, 5-6 variables are extracted as the main process variables for the injection process. Subsequently, the optimal control range of each process variable is presented using the ICE method. Finally, the product yield improvement methodology of this study is proposed through a validation process using Test Data. Results: The results of this study are as follows. In the injection process data, it was confirmed that XGBoost had an improvement defect rate of 0.21% and LightGBM had an improvement defect rate of 0.29%, which were improved by 0.79%p and 0.71%p, respectively, compared to the existing defect rate of 1.00%. Conclusion: This study is a case study. A research methodology was proposed in the injection process, and it was confirmed that the product yield was improved through verification.

A Case Study on The Development of Quality Cost Management System and Continuous Improvement in The Forging Industry (단조산업의 품질비용 관리체계 개발 및 지속적 품질개선 방안에 관한 사례 연구)

  • The material industry is an important infrastructure industry that uses process technology in order to produce parts applied to the final product and determine the quality of the finished product. However, the market environment, which has been recognized as a 3D industry, has deteriorated recently and lost competitiveness compared to other material industry countries. This study analyzed the characteristics of forging companies and The study found that three characteristics of the forging industry, facility-oriented, order-based, and field-centered, and internal failure cost and external failure costs were set as the range of quality cost. A total of eight quality tasks were selected by applying the quality cost management system and continuous quality improvement process developed for large-scale A forging company, and improvement activity proved its effectiveness reducing quality costs by 63.3% compared to the previous year. The research helps forging companies establish a quality management strategy by systematically managing and analyzing quality costs.

  • A prerequisite for improving the quality of a product is to enhance the quality of its parts supplied from outsourced enterprises. An enterprise certified by ISO 9001 Quality Management System is expected to develop their effective quality assurance system and maintain it through continuous control and improvement, thereby ensuring the good quality of products that they produce. However, it is reported that small and medium-sized enterprises certified by ISO 9001 have difficulty establishing an effective quality assurance system. This study aims to propose a new method of improving a quality assurance system that can be more effective in small and medium-sized enterprises. This study collectively considered requirements specified in several international standards on quality system and the results of expert group brainstorming to identify evaluation areas and items for assessing a quality assurance system. Based on these evaluation areas and items, a set of checklists for diagnosing and improving a quality assurance system was developed. In order to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method, this study applied it to ten small and medium-sized enterprises and could identify four approaches for improving their current quality assurance system. The presented improvement method, which consists of establishment of quality goals and quality innovation plan, defective products corrective activities, 4M and design change process, improvement of customer quality information management, is expected to be utilized as a useful tool for the enhancement of the quality assurance system of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Impact of Service Quality and Perceived Value on Customer Satisfaction and Behavioral Intentions: Evidence from Convenience Stores in Vietnam

  • This research investigates the relationship among product quality, service quality, perceived value, customer satisfaction, and behavior intentions. Validated measurements were identified from a literature review. The measurement model and the conceptual model depicting hypothesized relationships were evaluated based on responses from 220 customers using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The testing results show that, for the direct path, product quality has a significant, positive influence on customer satisfaction, and behavioral intentions. Also, perceived value directly influences customer satisfaction and behavioral intentions and satisfaction is an antecedent of behavioral intentions. For the indirect path, service quality has a significant, positive influence on behavioral intentions through the customer satisfaction. The major finding of this study suggest that service quality easily attract more customers, especially the young consumers. About the sale personnel, communication skills, knowledge and ways of treatment to customers are crucial to retailers to gain competitive advantage over competitors. Therefore, it should have clear and consistent processes, procedures with criteria that create the best condition for organization and individual to open this kind of retailing store. Furthermore, product quality improvement is essential; all products must have clear originality; and diversifying products and services is also the way to appeal more consumers.
