Model-Based Simulation Analysis of Wicking Behavior in Hygroscopic Cotton Fabric

  • Hygroscopic knitted cotton fabric was found to spontaneously absorb water showing a significantly wide concentration gradient in the absorption direction. A semi-empirical diffusion model was introduced to describe how the wicking behavior compared to the classical capillary model (Washburn's equation), which has been widely used in the textiles industry. The capillary sorption curve and the permeability coefficient, which are key variables for the model equations, were measured using an electronic balance. The concentration profile as a function of the wicking distance and the elapsed time was derived, based on the diffusion model. From the concentration profile, the wicking distance detectable by the human eye or a digital camera with the aid of an image-analysis system, could be described realistically as a function of the time. The classical capillary model could be modified by introducing the tortuous correction factor to match the diffusion model. Wicking models and data-processing techniques in the work could provide useful tools for objectively evaluating the textile's wicking performances.

  • All of the nuclear power plants in Korea we operating with analog instrumentation and control (I&C) equipment which are increasingly faced with frequent troubles, obsolescence and high maintenance expenses. Electrical and computer technology has improved rapidly in recent years and has been applied to other industries. So it is strongly recommended we adopt modern digital and computer technology to improve plant safety and availability. The advanced I&C system, namely, Integrated Intelligent Instrumentation and Control System (I$^3$CS) will be developed for beyond the next generation nuclear power plant. I$^3$CS consists of three major parts, the advanced compact workstation, distributed digital control and protection system including Automatic Start-up/shutdown Intelligent Control System (ASICS) and the computer-based alarm processing and operator support system, namely, Diagnosis, Response, and operator Aid Management System (DREAMS).

  • This paper describes on the analysis of morphemes and it's synthesis being constituted of Korean word phrases. To analyze morphemes, we propose the introduction of "morph" for morpheme features in lexicon and the usage of chart data structures. it controls over the generation of unnecessary morpheme, and extracts every possible morpheme unit in a word phrase which minimized lexicon investigation by using heuristic information. Moreover, to synthesize morphemes, it is composed of every possible analyzed morphemes in word phrases to take advantage of speech and union information which can be obtained for program. Therefore, the systhesis of analyzed morphemes were designed to aid a syntactic analysis next step of natural language processing. This system for analyzing and systhesizing morpheme was to generate a word phrase by unifying syntactic and semantic features of analyzed morphemes in lexicon, and then established by C language of the personal computer.

Hardware Digital Color Enhancement for Color Vision Deficiencies

  • Up to 10% of the global population suffers from color vision deficiency (CVD) [1], especially deuteranomaly and protanomaly, the conditions in which it is difficult to discriminate between red and green hues. For those who suffer from CVD, their career fields are restricted, and their childhood education is frustrating. There are many optical eye glasses on the market to compensate for this disability. However, although they are attractive due to their light weight, wearing these glasses will decrease visual brightness and cause problems at night. Therefore, this paper presents a supplementary device that comprises a head-mounted display and an image sensor. With the aid of the image processing technique of digital color space adjustment implemented in a high-speed field-programmable gate array device, the users can enjoy enhanced vision through the display without any decrease in brightness.

  • This paper describes the design of ECG data preprocess module for the ECG signals. This module process the data obtained from two channels. It is composed of the AID converter, QRS detector, one chip micro-computer and memory. This module performs the following functions;digital filtering, R wave detection and determination of reference point for the ST segment. The measured points are transfered to the next data module by the interrupt process. This preprocessor data module is available to the basis for the parallel data processing for the real time automatic diagnosis.

  • This paper is for the supplementary studies of the theoretical treaties on the machine dynamics of the amplidyne generator under the influencies of the armature reaction. The author has already shown the time-domain expression of the dynamic relations of the machine with balanced control winding, under this operating condition. In this paper, analytical and experimental studies of a test machine are intended to supplement the theories derived in the previous work, entitled "On the dynamics and the demagnetization effect of the amplidyne generator with auxiliary feedback compensating winding". FACOM 230 digital computer is incorporated for processing of a series of experimental data. The machine dynamics are then numerically analyzed with the aid of the computer. The virtual machine responses to stepwise inputs are compared with the computer output to confirm the influence of the armature reaction effect on to the machine dynamics. dynamics.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the dynamic behaviour of rubber oil seals when the interferences between the shaft and the seal lip as well as the dynamic eccentricities are present. The micro-separation of the sealing gap was observed with the aid of an image processing apparatus. The temperature of the seal lip edge, friction torque and the dynamic sealing gap profile are experimentally investigated for the initial interference and the shaft eccentricity. The data was simultaneously measured under the operation conditions. Experimental results show that, as the shaft speed is increased, the leakage of sealed fluids is increasing for a certain range of shaft speeds. The test data indicates that the shaft eccentricity clearly produces the gap separation between the shaft and the seal lip which is unable to follow the radial displacement of shaft as the shaft speed increases.

  • This paper is concerned with a Logic-based Fuzzy Neural Networks (LFNN) with the aid of fuzzy granulation. As the underlying design tool guiding the development of the proposed LFNN, we concentrate on the context-based fuzzy clustering which builds information granules in the form of linguistic contexts as well as OR fuzzy neuron which is logic-driven processing unit realizing the composition operations of T-norm and S-norm. The design process comprises several main phases such as (a) defining context fuzzy sets in the output space, (b) completing context-based fuzzy clustering in each context, (c) aggregating OR fuzzy neuron into linguistic models, and (c) optimizing connections linking information granules and fuzzy neurons in the input and output spaces. The experimental examples are tested through two-dimensional nonlinear function. The obtained results reveal that the proposed model yields better performance in comparison with conventional linguistic model and other approaches.

  • With development of information communications and network environments security importance to the informations deepen as time goes. In this viewpoint, cryptosystem is developing but proportionally cracking and hacking technology is developing Therefore, in this paper we proposed and designed block cryptosystem with byte variable operation. Designed cryptosystem based on byte operation is safe than existed cryptosystem because it is not generate the fixed DC and LC characteristics. Additionally, proposed cryptosystem have high processing rate and authenticated operation. Therefore proposed cryptosystem is considered to many aid in the network fields.

  • IT convergence with agriculture is expected to bring more efficiency and quality improvement in producing, distributing, consuming of agricultural products with the aid of information processing and autonomous control technologies of the IT area. In this paper, it is required to consider the actualized IT convergence case for agriculture, namely Smart Farming as a solution to cope the presented problems. In addition, suggest to standard functional model and standardization items for the smart farming based on network.
