Neural Fuzzy Mold Level Control for Continuous Steel Casting

  • Mold level control has been a major control task for continuous casting plants. The system involves nonlinearities such as stick-slip friction in the sliding gate, time-delay, friction force variations between molten steel and the inner wall of mold, and nozzle logging/unclogging. These complex problems should be solved to control mold level for steel cast. In this paper, we propose a neural fuzzy mold level control technique for solving these complex problems and give experiment studies to show the mold level control in continuous casting process.

  • In this paper, we design a 256-bit EEPROM IP using only logic process-based devices. We propose EEPROM core circuits, a control gate (CG) and a tunnel gate (TG) driving circuit, to limit the voltages between the devices within 5.5V; and we propose DC-DC converters : VPP (=+4.75V), VNN (-4.75V), and VNNL (=VNN/3) generation circuit. In addition, we propose switching powers, CG_HV, CG_LV, TG_HV, TG_LV, VNNL_CG, VNNL_TG switching circuit, to be supplied for the CG and TG driving circuit. Simulation results under the typical simulation condition show that the power consumptions in the read, erase, and program mode are $12.86{\mu}W$, $22.52{\mu}W$, and $22.58{\mu}W$ respectively. Furthermore, the manufactured test chip operated normally and generated its target voltages of VPP, VNN, and VNNL as 4.69V, -4.74V, and -1.89V.

  • In this study, the failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) of hydrogen production process by using the Thermococcus onnurineus NA1 was conducted and advanced methodology to compensate the weakness of previous FMEA methodology was applied. To bring out more quantitative and precise FMEA result for bio-hydrogen production process, fuzzy logic and potential loss cost estimated from ASPEN Capital Cost Estimator (ACCE) was introduced. Consequently, risk for releasing the flammable gases via internal leakage of steam tube which to control the operating temperature of main reactor was caution status in FMEA result without applying the fuzzification and ACCE. Moreover, probability of the steam tube plugging caused by solid property like medium was still caution status. As to apply the fuzzy logic and potential loss cost estimated from ACCE, a couple of caution status was unexpectedly upgraded to high dangerous status since the potential loss cost of steam tube for main reactor and decrease in product gases are higher than expected.

This developed intelligent node is based on two microcontrollers, one for the execution of the application code, also as master controller for ensuring the real time control & the logic operation with CPLD and other for communication task and the easy control execution, i.e., I/O digital input, digital output and interrupting. This paper also presents where the case NCS (Networked control system) with LonTalk protocol is applied for the filtration process control system of a small water treatment plant.

An Upshift Improvement in the Quality of Forklift's Automatic Transmission by Learning Control (학습제어를 이용한 지게차 자동변속기 상향 변속품질 개선)

  • Recently, automatic transmissions caused a good improvement in the shift quality of a forklift. An advanced shift control algorithm, which was based on TCU firmware, was applied with embedded control technology and microcontrollers. In the clutch-to-clutch shifting, one friction element is released and the other friction element is activated. During this process, if the release and application timings are not synchronized, an overrun or tie-up occurs and ultimately leads to a shift shock. The TCU, which measures only the speed of the forklift, inevitably applies the open-loop shift control. In this situation, the speed ratio does not change during the clutch fill. The torque phase occurs until the clutch is disengaged. In this study, an offline shift logic of the learning control was proposed. It induced a synchronous shift when the learning control progressed. During this process, the reference current trajectory of the release clutch was corrected and applied to the next upshift. We considered the results of the overrun/tie-up characteristics of the upshift performed immediately before. The vehicle test proved that the deviation in shift quality, which was caused by the difference in the mechanical characteristics of the clutch, could be improved by the learning control.

  • In this paper, we introduce an integrated communication and control system(ICCS) for control of a crane. The system is integrated with a compasite technique as a network interfacing, a user interfacing and a system control for continuous process like as a container crane. The field-bus(Profibus) network module is used to interconnect each input/output module with main control unit. The MMI system for user interfacing is integrated with an ODBC-based data management tool and IECl131-based control logic design tool(Soft-Logic Designer:SLD). The each programmed control task in the main Controller is executed using a petri-net based scheduler.

  • The basic processing unit for instant ramen noodles includes mixing, rolling, boiling, frying, cooling, and packing processes. For uniform thickness of dough sheets in rolling process, the roll-gap in rolling process needs to keep uniform thickness of flour sheets in spite of different kinds of raw materials. In this paper, we have developed a roll gap adjustment system using a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) with a touch panel and an AC servo-mechanism to make dough sheets with a good gluten starch-network structure and uniform thickness and to contribute to process standardization by transferring from tacit knowledge of skilled workers to explicit knowledge. The developed system can adjust the roll gap in units of 0.01mm and correspond to various product items which have different thickness specification by recalling the presetting values of the desired thickness from database.

  • A major concern in Concurrent Engineering is the control and management of workload in a period of process. As a general rule, leveling the peak of workload in a certain period is difficult because concurrent processing is comprised of various processes, including overlapping, paralleling and looping. Therefore, workload management with resource constraints is so beneficial that effective methods to analyze design process This study presents a procedure to transform the IDEF3 process model into the precedence logic network model for more useful assessment of the process. This approach is expected to facilitate resolving resource constrained scheduling problems more systematically in Concurrent Engineering environment.

Modelling of Optimum Design of High Vacuum System for Plasma Process

  • Electronic devices used in the mobile environments fabricated under the plasma conditions in high vacuum system. Especially for the development of advanced electronic devices, high quality plasma as the process conditions are required. For this purpose, the variable conductance throttle valves for controllable plasma employed to the high vacuum system. In this study, we analyzed the effects of throttle valve applications on vacuum characteristics simulated to obtain the optimum design modelling for plasma conditions of high vacuum system. We used commercial simulator of vacuum system, VacSim(multi) on this study. Reliability of simulator verified by simulation of the commercially available models of high vacuum system. Simulated vacuum characteristics of the proposed modelling agreed with the observed experimental behaviour of real systems. Pressure limit valve and normally on-off control valve schematized as the modelling of throttle valve for the constant process-pressure of below 10-3 torr. Simulation results plotted as pump down curve of chamber, variable valve conductance and conductance logic of throttle valve. Simulated behaviors showed the applications of throttle valve sustained the process-pressure constantly, stably, and reliably in plasma process.
