  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effects 6th grade mathematics lessons applying story making have on the mathematics achievement and attitude toward mathematics. For this study, using two examination devices for measuring mathematical attitudes and mathematics learning achievement, a pre-test and post-test were conducted. In the pre-test, it was found that the two groups are identical groups. The post-test was used for verifying the research problems and the results of post-test were analyzed using t-test. The findings of this study are below. First, lessons applying story making influenced the mathematics achievement of children. This implies that lessons applying story making are more effective for improving a mathematics achievement than a general teaching and learning method. Also, when carrying out the t-test of pre-test and post-test results of learning achievement in experimental groups, there was a significant change as well. It is therefore supposed that lessons applying story making have positive effect on the mathematics achievement of children. • This study examines the existing theories related to detention basin and embodies the calculation process of sediment basin. It investigated the scale of sediment basin by actual measurement at Buju Mountain, Mokpo city which causes the environmental problems like erosion and outflow of sediment due to the excessive development, finds the problems of existing sediment basin by applying and analyzing the physical factors which affect the execution of sediment basin using GIS as the method establishing the scale of sediment basin embodied in this study and then suggests the oteimum scale. Comparing the surface area of the existing sediment basin and of the required one, all of the surface areas of the existing sediment basins were smaller than those of the required one. Therefore, it can be expected that the trap efficient of sediment will be declined. The required one. Therefore, it can be expected that the trap efficient of sediment will be declined. The required minimum depth was fully satisfied, but it is analyzed that the volume of sediment basin will affect the neighboring environment because it can not accomodate the inflow discharge volume except sediment basin C. It is consistent with the actual situation which causes a serious environmental problem due to the overflow of sediment basin during the heavy storm event except sediment basin C and also it verifies the validity of calculation process of establishing optimum sediment basin suggested in this study.

  • In a situation where competition becomes intense, health care organizations constantly strive to provide more services with given personnel and time. While not only the 'quantity' of the services but also the 'quality' becomes increasingly important, various problems that can occur during the 'process' of service provision can be effectively managed by applying the methods of management science. In this study, we introduce the cases where the methods of management science can be applied for the management of health care organizations in Korea and abroad. There are many cases where various scenarios for improving the patients' accessibility to the services and for maximizing the efficient use of limited resources are established, and simulation or basic statistical analysis methods are used to solve the problems more systematically or to develop improvement plans. In this study, several exemplary cases, such as no-show of patients, crowding in the emergency room, prediction of the number of available beds in the intensive care units, nurse scheduling, delay of arrival of patients, and ordering of the proper amount of therapeutic materials, are introduced and discussed. From the perspective of administrators or clinicians, however, it may not be easy to master the methodology that requires considerable mathematical background or apply the theories to practice directly. Therefore, it is suggested that more practical and relatively simple analytical methods should be applied. Also, having a more positive attitude toward improving the current performance (e.g., a belief that 'we can always be better than now'), and paying attention to improving the job satisfaction by addressing problems, with experimental spirit and data-driven decision management.

  • Self-sufficiency rate of food in South Korea is almost at the lowest level among OECD countries, and the decrease tend of farmland is expected to be continued. In this situation, the government has been revised the target self-sufficiency rate of food, and carried forward various policies in order to achieve it. One of those policies is the restoration business of idle farmland which is planned to carry forward after 2015. This study set up indicators evaluating effective use of idle farmland, and tried to apply in the field before carrying forward restoration business. The result of this study may be summarized as follows. First of all, it reset an evaluation indicator that was based on the evaluation indicator developed in order to set application directions of idle farmland. Next, it selected 30 idle farmlands with reset evaluation indicator among 11,635 which were inspected nationwide in 2012. Before applying indicator, it measured the condition of recycling such as accessibility of farmland, condition of irrigation and drainage system, land state, and surroundings by field investigation. Then, it calculated composite score in each target area through applying indicators, and verified the indicator by comparing calculated result with the one which was decided from field investigation. Finally, it carried out field investigation, correct and upgrade some problems of the standard of score calculation that was found during applying previously set evaluation indicator to target area, and established the final standard of calculation for evaluation indicator.

  • In the current railway industry in Korea, a lot of researches and studies have been progressed to establish RAMS process and construction of RCM system in accordance with international standards. On the point of view of applying the RCM to the railway system, many problems (i.e., reliability of the existing field data, the lack and incorrectness of failure information, etc) are described. To solve these problems, it is need to study and effort the RCM, practically. In this paper, lots of problems and solutions for methods determining the preventive maintenance interval of application of the RCM will be described. To do this, the method using the theory of RBI (Reliability Based Inspection) which is applied to the existing chemical plants and power plants is described. From this study, it is expected that in this situation that the quantitative data is not enough, the results that an analyst quantifies the qualitative factors and/or items will be a good reference that can effectively approach, on the side of determination about each maintenance task and inspection interval.

  • The difference between definition time of GPS (Global Positioning System) position data and actual display time of car positions on a map could reduce the accuracy of car positions displayed in PND (Portable Navigation Device)-type CNS (Car Navigation System). Due to the time difference, the position of the car displayed on the map is not its current position, so an improved method to fix these problems is required. It is expected that a method that uses predicted future positionsto compensate for the delay caused by processing and display of the received GPS signals could mitigate these problems. Therefore, in this study an analysis was conducted to correct late processing problems of map positions by mapmatching using a Kalman filter with only GPS position data and a RRF (Road Reduction Filter) technique in a light-weight CNS. The effects on routing services are examined by analyzing differences that are decomposed into along and across the road elements relative to the direction of advancing car. The results indicate that it is possible to improve the positional accuracy in the along-the-road direction of a light-weight CNS device that uses only GPS position data, by applying a Kalman filter and RRF.

  • This study is to solve problems of depletion of RF bandwidth frequency, confusion possibility, security that current wireless communications system have and is to confirm possibility of applying next generation network. To solve problems of current wireless communications system, visible light communications system for power line communications using ATmega16 Microcontroller is was realized and receiver property was analyzed. PLC exclusive chip APLC-485MA, Microcontroller ATmega16, 5pi bulb type LED and high flux LED, visible light receiving sensor LLS08-A1 were used for transmitter and receiver. Performance was analyzed by designed program and an oscilloscope. It was showed average 20% improved receiver rate rather than bulb type LED in the case of high flux LED through voltage change rate on communication distance and LED type of distance between 10 to 50 cm. The blue LED showed the best performance among measured LED types with above 10% of voltage decreasing rate. But As it gradually becomes more distant, the precise date was difficult to obtain due to weak light. To overcome these sort of problems, specific values such as changing conditions and efficiency value relevant to light emitting parts and visible light receiving sensor should be calculated and continuous study and improvements should also be accomplished for the better communications condition.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the restaurant business adversely. The restaurant business is essential for Thailand's economy as it generates high income and a high employment rate. This study aimed to determine the relationships between restaurant businesses. Furthermore, it examined the problems encountered during COVID-19 and measures already implemented and planned. The research is intended to resolve these issues. We collected data from 136 people who worked in restaurants in Bangkok, Thailand, via telephone interviews. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and correspondence analysis using SPSS. The findings of this analysis indicate that all restaurants, irrespective of their size, face problems, though their planned and remedial actions are different. One finding was that medium restaurants face more financial problems and increased costs than others. They are countering this challenge through measures such as applying for loans and transitioning into a "non-restaurant" business. Nevertheless, typical medium restaurants have not engaged in extensive planning for the future. Based on a fact-finding survey, we considered appropriate short- and long-term measures suitable for micro, small and medium restaurants. In addition, our study's findings will help policymakers and practitioners identify strategies for responding to the COVID-19 outbreak and other future crises.
