This paper reports a preliminary experimental investigation and characterization of an optical fiber-based submersion sensor system for applications in water flooding and leakage. The sensor system comprises a multi-mode fiber spliced with fiber Bragg grating and an intensity-based interrogator. Submersion tests were conducted in water-air and Glycerin-air environments. By the refractive index of the fiber-probe surrounding materials, the reflectance and the detecting power level is determined. When the probe is dipped into the water, the optical output power dramatically decreases from -7.5dBm to -17.5dBm. But, the center of Bragg wavelength is not affected in spite of external material changes. Temporal response characteristics of the sensor system is investigated to verify the real-time reaction. When the probe is immersed into the liquid, there is no transition time.
본 논문에서는 밀리미터파 대역에서 동작하는 inline 구조를 이용한 도파관-마이크로스트립 전이구조를 설계 및 제작하였다. 도파관-마이크로스트립 전이구조는 프로브, 인덕턴스 선로, ${\lambda}/4$ 임피던스 변환기, 그리고 50 ohm 마이크로스트립 선로로 구성되어 있으며, 각 구성 요소들의 특성 임피던스 및 길이를 시뮬레이션을 통하여 최적화하였다. 제작된 전이구조의 측정 결과, 밀리미터파 내 중심 주파수 94 GHz 구간에서 평균 2.1 dB 삽입손실 특성 및 13 dB 이하의 입출력 반사 손실 특성을 나타내었다.
Distribution of the local properties in GdBCO and YBCO coated conductors was investigated using Low-temperature Scanning Laser and Hall Probe Microscopy (LTSLHPM). We prepared GdBCO and YBCO coated conductors to study the spatial distribution of the current density in a single bridge. Inhomogeneity of the ${T_c}^{max}$ in the bridge was analyzed from experimental results of Scanning Laser Microscopy (SLM) near the superconducting transition. The local transport and screening current in the bridge were also investigated using Scanning Hall Probe Microscopy (SHPM). A series of line scans of SLM of the GdBCO and YBCO sample showed that lines with more inhomogeneous distributions of ${\delta}V$ had more inhomogeneous distributions of ${T_c}^{max}$. The defect of the superconducting layer of the GdBCO sample caused by damage to the substrate affected the current flow. And we could analyze the redistribution of the current density using SLM and SHPM.
Multiple particle tracking microrheology is used to characterize the viscoelastic properties of biomaterial and synthetic polymer gels near the liquid-solid transition. Probe particles are dispersed in the gel precursors, and their dynamics are measured as a function of the extent of reaction during gel formation. We interpret the dynamics using the generalized Stokes-Einstein relationship (GSER), using a form of the GSER that emphasizes the relationship between the probe particle mean-squared displacement and the material creep compliance. We show that long-standing concepts in gel bulk rheology are applicable to microrheological data, including time-cure superposition to identify the gel point and critical scaling exponents, and the power-law behavior of incipient network's viscoelastic response. These experiments provide valuable insight into the rheology, structure, and kinetics of gelling materials, and are especially powerful for studying the weak incipient networks of dilute gelators, as well as scarce materials, due to the small sample size requirements and rapid data acquisition.
The observed characteristics of magnetic oscillations in L-H transition and disruption are described. Two kinds of MHD magnetic probes are used in order to cover broadband frequency range from 1.3 kHz to 300 kHz in the H-mode. Depending on the probe's position and frequency, different characteristics are observed. Precursor like oscillation in L-H transition, and the difference between sawtooth and ELM are discussed. All disruptions during the current rising phase are related with m=2 or m=3 mode. Different disruption characteristics for different operation conditions could be found in the MHD probes.
Effects of wake-passing orientation and frequency on the wake-induced boundary layer transition on a NACA0012 airfoil are investigated. The wakes are generated by rotating cylinders clockwise (CW) and counterclockwise (CCW) around the airfoil. Time- and phase-averaged streamwise mean velocities and turbulent fluctuations are measured with a single hot-wire probe. Wall skin frictions are estimated by the Computational Preston Tube Method (CPM). The pressure distribution on the airfoil is different according to the wake-passing orientation and frequency. Turbulent patches are generated in the laminar boundary layer due to the passing wake and the boundary layer becomes temporarily transitional. The transition process is significantly affected by the pressure gradient and the turbulent patches. For the receding wake, the turbulent patches propagate more rapidly than those for the approaching wake because adverse pressure gradient becomes larger. As the frequency increases, onset location of transition moles upstream and the boundary layer near the trailing edge becomes more transitional.
The structural and electric properties of $Y_{1-x}$YbF$_{x}$Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-y}$(x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6) have been investigated by using XRD(X-ray diffraction), TMA(thennomechanical analysis), NMR(nuclear magnetic resonance) analysis and four probe method. $Y_{1-x}$YbF$_{x}$Ba$_{2}$Cu$_{3}$O$_{7-y}$ samples were prepared by conventional solid-state reaction method using $Y_{2}$O$_{3}$, BaCO$_{3}$, CuO and YbF$_{3}$ power. TMA and high temperature XRD results shows that orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition occurs in the unfluorinated 1-2-3 sample while the phase change is not observed in the fluorinated 1-2-3 samples. Superconducting transition temperature(T$_{c}$) increases with increasing YbF$_{3}$ content ; T$_{c}$, of the sample reaching maximum of 102K for x=0.3, and then decreases with further increasing YbF$_{3}$ content. The structural analysis and T$_{c}$ results shows that the fluorine doping stabilize the orthorhombic phase, together with the increase in T$_{c}$.}$ c/.TEX> c/.
We utilize Fourier transform infrared (IR) spectroscopy to probe intramolecular hydrogen bonding in $smectic-C^{\ast}$ liquid crystal phases. Infrared spectra of aligned smectic liquid crystal materials vs. temperature and of isotropic liquid crystal mixtures vs. concentration were measured in homologs, both with and without hydrogen bonding. Hydrogen bonding significantly changes the direction and magnitude of the vibrational dipole transition moments, causing marked changes in the IR dichroic absorbance profiles of hydrogen bonded molecular subfragments. A GAUSSIAN94 computation of the directions, magnitudes, and frequencies of the vibrational dipole moments of molecular subfragments shows good agreement with the experimental data. The results show that IR dichroism can be an effective probe of hydrogen bonding in liquid crystal phases.
An experimental study was carried out to investigate influence of flow conditions on a boundary layer to the near-wake of a flat plate. The flow condition in the vicinity of trailing edge that is influenced by upstream condition history is an essential factor that determines the physical characteristics of a near-wake. Various tripping wires were used to change boundary layer flow condition of upstream at the freestream velocity of 6.0 m/sec. Measurements of the boundary layer and near-wake according to the change of upstream conditions were conducted by using both I-probe(55P14 for boundary layer) and X-probe(55P61 for wake). Normalized velocity profiles of the boundary layer were shown the flow types such as laminar boundary layer, transition, and turbulent boundary layer at 0.95C from the leading edge. The velocity and turbulence intensity profiles of the near-wake for the case of laminar boundary layer at the flat plate surface exhibited a defect and a double peak showing perfect symmetry, respectively.
This paper analyzes recording density according to the shape variation of Electric Probe writer, and present a shape design method for improving recording density in perpendicular electric recording device. The gradient of electric field has to be steep to improve recording density because transition region on the media becomes wider when recording. The optimum shape of electrode could be archived by using Response Surface Methodology and 2-Dimensional Finite Element Method.
