Since early 1990's, several Quaternary faults have been found in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula with reference to fault activity. Because some of these faults could be considered a capable fault, it is a very delicate matter, which need to be deal with carefully in assessing the seismic hazard. In determining whether or not a faults are capable, because of the low rate of seismicity and insufficient relationship between instrumental macro-seismicity and fault, there has been considerable debate among geologists and geophysicists in Korea. In this study, we discuss the criteria and probabilistic approaches that are used to assess whether or not a fault is seismogenic. And, we preliminarily also suggest the probability of fault activity from the spatial association between faults and earthquake epicenters, fault slip and tectonic stress, and geological evidence for multiple episodes of reactivation.

In many cases, the quality of a product is determined by several correlated quality variables. Control charts have been used for a long time widely to control the production process and to quickly detect the assignable causes that may produce any deterioration in the quality of a product. Numerical switching performances of multivariate cumulative sum control chart for simultaneous monitoring all components in the dispersion matrix ${\Sigma}$ under multivariate normal process $N_p({\underline{\mu}},{\Sigma})$ are considered. Numerical performances were evaluated for various shifts of the values of variances and/or correlation coefficients in ${\Sigma}$. Our computational results show that if one wants to quick detect the small shifts in a process, CUSUM control chart with small reference value k is more efficient than large k in terms of average run length (ARL), average time to signal (ATS), average number of switches (ANSW).

A risk analysis consists of a triplet, , where Si is the scenario identification; Pi is the probability of each scenario; and Xi is the consequences of each scenario. A new computing framework, OMAM (ORIGEN-MAAP4-MMCS), has been developed and applied for assessing the risk of a reference plant as well as radiation source terms using the concept of risk triplet. The result of this study using the OMAM framework presented in this paper, can contribute to producing domestic nuclear power plant's risk data base as well as to establishing severe accident management plans.

The long-term wind data are reconstructed from the short-term meteorological data to design the 4 MW offshore wind park which will be constructed at Woljeong-ri, Jeju island, Korea. Using two MCP (Measure-Correlate-Predict) models, the relative deviation of wind speed and direction from two neighboring reference weather stations can be regressed at each azimuth sector. The validation of the present method is checked about linear and matrix MCP models for the sets of measured data, and the characteristic wind turbulence is estimated from the ninety-percent percentile of standard deviation in the probability distribution. Using the Gumbel's model, the extreme wind speed of fifty-year return period is predicted by the reconstructed long-term data. The predicted results of this analysis concerning turbulence intensity and extreme wind speed are used for the calculation of fatigue life and extreme load in the design procedure of wind turbine structures at offshore wind farms.

A parallel looking stereo camera was mainly used as an input sensor for digital image processing, image understanding and the extraction of 3 dimensional information. Theoretical analysis and performance evaluation are dealt in this paper for a convergent looking stereo camera model having a fixation point with the result of crossing optical axes. The quantization error, depth resolution and equidepth map due to digital pixels, and the misalignments effects of pan, tilt and roll angles are analyzed by using rhe relationship between the reference and image coordinate systems. Also horopter, epipolar lines, probability density functions of the depth error, and stereo fusion areas for the two camera models are discussed.

본 연구는 학교에서 얻어지는 교사들의 경험을 바탕으로 인터넷을 통한 학생상담의 효율성 증대를 위한 상담 사례 검색 시스템을 구축하는데 있다. 이 시스템은 관리자 모듈과 사용자 모듈로 구성되어 있다. 사용자 모듈은 상담사례 검색 및 입력, 게시판, 자료실 등을 이용할 수 있게 되어 있으며, 관리자 모듈은 자료 관리와 회원 관리 기능을 제공한다. 본 상담사례 검색 시스템은 학생 상담의 성공 확률을 증대시킬 수 있다. 교사가 인터넷을 이용하여 그들의 상담사례를 원격지에서도 쉽게 공유할 수 있기 때문이다.

This study deals with the estimation of the Weibull parameters, which have a close relation with product reliability characteristics. Among the many kinds of estimation methods, Kao's Weibull Probability Paper(WPP) is commonly used. The WPP is very convenient, but it has a great disadvantage in estimation accuracy by plotting method. It is very difficult to get the same results even if one use the same data several times. A computer program for the regression method is used for the parameter estimation to reduce these errors. Especially, the computer graphic program was written in GW-BASIC 3.22 language and the program appears in the appendix part with a couple of running examples for user's reference.

In this paper, we develop noninformative priors that are used for estimating the ratio of failure rates under Freund's bivariate exponential distribution. A class of priors is found by matching the coverage probabilities of one-sided Baysian credible interval with the corresponding frequentist coverage probabilities. Also the propriety of posterior under the noninformative priors is proved and the frequentist coverage probabilities are investigated for small samples via simulation study.

The paper considers the Bayesian interval estimation for the common mean of several normal populations. A Bayesian procedure is proposed based on the idea of matching asymptotically the coverage probabilities of Bayesian credible intervals with their frequentist counterparts. Several frequentist procedures based on pivots and P-values are introduced and compared with Bayesian procedure through simulation study. Both simulation results demonstrate that the Bayesian procedure performs as well or better than any available frequentist procedure even from a frequentist perspective.
