To use the OneSAF model for the analysis of Defence M&S, the most critical factor is the acquisition of input data. The model user is hard to determine the input data such as the probability of hit(Ph) and the probability of kill(Pk). These data can be obtained directly by live fire during the development test and the operational test. Therefore, this needs more time and resources to get the Ph and Pk. In this paper, we reviewed possible ways to obtain the Ph and Pk. We introduced several data producing methodologies. In particular, the error budget method was presented to convert the Ph(%) data of AWAM model to the error(mil) data of OneSAF model. Also, the conversion method which can get the adjusted results from the JMEM is introduced. The probability of a hit was calculated based on the error budget method in order to prove the usefulness of the given method. More accurate data were obtained when the error budget method and the projected area from the published photo were used simultaneously. The importance of the Ph calculation was demonstrated by sensitivity analysis of the Ph on combat effectiveness. This paper emphasizes the importance of determining the Ph data and improving the reliability of the M&S system though steady collection and analysis of the Ph data.

An Image Infra-Red(IIR) seeker is widely used for precision guided munitions to provide intelligent and precise target detection in terms of high kill probability. However, there have been issues in determining the performance versus cost trade-offs due to high cost of seeker comparing to other units of the munitions. In this paper, performance/cost evaluations have been carried out to find the most cost-effective solution for developing the IIR seekers. The relationships between the critical parameters and cost are investigated to determine the optimal point which represents the low cost with high performance. It is expected that the presented approach will be able to be used for guidelines to select the appropriate IIR seeker for the given operating conditions and can be useful to estimate the cost effectiveness of the precision guided munitions at early design stage.

The high intercept probability depends on optimization of the system, which consists of target detection, tracking system, missile system and so on. To reduce the complexity of global optimization of the system performance, simplification of the relative dependances of each sub-system is done and design parameters for DACS configuration are identified. The conceptual design process is addressed based on the requirement of the design parameters and new methodology is suggested for higher performance.

In this paper, an efficient defense strategy of single naval ship using short range anti-air missiles against the threat of multiple anti-ship missiles is suggested. The defense logic is based on the estimated future trajectory of anti-ship missiles by using current radar information. The logic is designed to maximize the range of interception of anti-ship missiles so that the chance of interception can be increased although the prior tries turn out to be fail. Basically, the decision making for the allocation of a defense missile is achieved by comparing the total kill probability and the estimated intercepting point. Performance of the proposed logic is investigated by nonlinear planar numerical simulations.
In this study, we performed a Random Walker analysis to predict the Major Movement Paths of otters. The scope of the research was a simulation analysis with a radius of 7.5 km set as the final range centered on the Ansim-wetland in Daegu City, and a field survey was used to verify the model. The number of virtual otters was set to 1,000, the number of moving steps was set to 1,000 steps per grid, and simulations were performed on a total of 841 grids. As a result of the analysis, an average of 147.6 objects arrived at the boundary point under the condition of an interval of 50 m. As a result of the simulation verification, 8 points (13.1%) were found in the area where the movement probability was very high, and 9 points (14.8%) were found in the area where the movement probability was high. On the other hand, in areas with low movement paths probabilities, there were 8 points (13.1%) in low areas and 4 points (6.6%) in very low areas. Simulation verification results In areas with high otter values, the actual otter format probability was particularly high. In addition, as a result of investigating the correlation with the otter appearance point according to the unit area of the evaluation star of the movement probability, it seems that 6.8 traces were found per unit area in the area where the movement probability is the highest. In areas where the probability of movement is low, analysis was performed at 0.1 points. On the side where otters use the major movement paths of the river area, the normal level was exceeded, and as a result, in the area, 23 (63.9%), many form traces were found, along the major movement paths of the simulation. It turned out that the actual otter inhabits. The EN-Simulator analysis can predict how spatial properties affect the likelihood of major movement paths selection, and the analytical values are used to utilize additional habitats within the major movement paths. It is judged that it can be used as basic data such as to grasp the danger area of road kill in advance and prevent it.

A missile defense system is composed of radars detecting incoming missiles aiming at defense assets, command control units making the decisions on weapon target assignment, and artillery batteries firing of defensive weapons to the incoming missiles. Although, the technology behind the development of radars and weapons is very important, effective assignment of the weapons against missile threats is much more crucial. When incoming missile targets toward valuable assets in the defense area are detected, the asset-based weapon target assignment model addresses the issue of weapon assignment to these missiles so as to maximize the total value of surviving assets threatened by them. In this paper, we present a model for an asset-based weapon assignment problem with shoot-look-shoot engagement policy and fixed set-up time between each anti-missile launch from each defense unit. Then, we show detailed linear approximation process for nonlinear portions of the model and propose final linear approximation model. After that, the proposed model is applied to several ballistic missile defense scenarios. In each defense scenario, the number of incoming missiles, the speed and the position of each missile, the number of defense artillery battery, the number of anti-missile in each artillery battery, single shot kill probability of each weapon to each target, value of assets, the air defense coverage are given. After running lpSolveAPI package of R language with the given data in each scenario in a personal computer, we summarize its weapon target assignment results specified with launch order time for each artillery battery. We also show computer processing time to get the result for each scenario.

Survivability in a battle field is the most important aspect to the warriors. To analyze the survival effectiveness of warrior platform, the simulation via war-game model is an essential step in advance to the development of platform. In this study, Army Weapon effectiveness Analysis Model(AWAM) was utilized for analysis. Several weapon parameters were adjusted to apply the characteristics of warrior platform in some cases of the defense and survival system. Especially, adjusted triage possibility, probability of kill, fatality and accuracy were employed as parameters in the simulation program to evaluate the survival effectiveness of intelligent system based on the previous researches. In the future battle field or virtual space in the AWAM, the warrior platform intelligent system could react emergency treatment on time by expoiting the bio-information of man at arms. Considering the order of supply priority, special force was selected as operating troops and battle scenario without engagement was selected to measure accurate survival effectiveness. In conclusion, the survivability of defence and survival system of the warrior platform was about 1.47 times higher than that of current system.

This paper deals with an optimal Weapon-Target Assignment (WTA) algorithm for Closed-In Weapon Systems (CIWS), considering variable burst time. In this study, the WTA problem for CIWS is formulated based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). Unlike the previous study assuming that the burst time is fixed regardless of the engagement range, the proposed method utilizes the variable burst time based on the kill probability according to the engagement range. Thus, the proposed method can reflect a more realistic engagement situation and reduce the reaction time of CIWS against targets, compared to the existing method. In this paper, we first reformulate the existing MILP-based WTA problem to accommodate the variable burst Time. The proposed method is then validated through numerical simulations with the help of a commercial optimization tool.

The error probability of QPSK and DPSK signals with diversity reception technique in m-distribution fading plus impulsive noise environments has been derived and the error probability is evaluated and compared with that in Gaussian noise environment. The error performance degrades as impulsive noise becomes strong and degree of degradation of signal performance in QDPSK signal is larger than that in QPSK signal. The diversity reception technique can improve the error performance not only in fading plus Gaussian noise environment but in fading plus impulsive noise environment. When diversity reception technique is used, the improvement of error performance attains about 10dB to 15dB in terms of CNR as compared with that in non diversity reception. Among diversity techniques the maximal ratio combining is must effective. When diversity reception and coding techniques are used together in impulsive noise plus Rayleigh fading environments, the improvement of error performance attains about 12dB to 15dB in terms of CNR as compared with that of only diversity reception technique case and the improvement of error perform- ance in RS coding attains about 2dB in terms of CNR as compared with that of BCH coding case.
The red fox (Vulpes vulpes), listed as a Class I endangered species by the Ministry of Environment of Korea, has been considered to be extinct in South Korea since the 1980s, and an intensive restoration project has been underway in Sobaeksan national park. This study was carried out to develop a suitable model for the red fox reintroduction program based on Population viability analysis (PVA) by using the VORTEX program. If 10 animals (5 females and 5 males) were continuously released into the initial zero population every year for 10 years, population growth rate and extinction probability over the next 50 years after the introduction of the population were $0.018{\pm}0.204$ and 0.354, respectively; the maximum population size was 116.34 at the 16th year after the first release, and a reduction rate of 1.22 every year from the 17th year was inferred. We found that additional releases would be needed from the 17th year after the initial release to maintain a positive growth rate and to prevent the extinction of the released red foxes, and releasing more than 12 individuals every year would be needed for the long-term, continuous existence of red foxes. By contrast, if fewer than 6 red fox individuals were released the extinction probability over the next 50 years was more than 80%. To maintain the minimum population growth rate, the release of more than 8 individuals were needed for positive population growth. The population growth rate was more stable when 10 animals in the change of their sex rate every year from the set value were released as the female-to- male sex ratio of 6:4 rather than 1:1. However, if the female-biased sex ratio was increased by more than 7:3, a negative population growth was expected. The occurrence rate of roadkill and poaching are important factors in the red fox restoration project. The extinction probability was decreased to 30% if each factor was decreased to 3% based on the standard baseline; however, if each factor was increased to more than 3%, an extinction rate of about 90% was reached over the next 50 years.
