A comparison of dimensional standard of several nickel-titanium rotary files

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the dimensional standard of several nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary files and verify the size conformity. Materials and Methods: ProFile (Dentsply Maillefer), RaCe (FKG Dentaire), and TF file (SybronEndo) #25 with a 0.04 and 0.06 taper were investigated, with 10 in each group for a total of 60 files. Digital images of Ni-Ti files were captured under light microscope (SZX16, Olympus) at $32{\times}$. Taper and diameter at $D_1$ to $D_{16}$ of each files were calculated digitally with AnalySIS TS Materials (OLYMPUS Soft Imaging Solutions). Differences in taper, the diameter of each level ($D_1$ to $D_{16}$) at 1 mm interval from (ANSI/ADA) specification No. 101 were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's post-hoc test at 95% confidence level. Results: TF was the only group not conform to the nominal taper in both tapers (p < 0.05). All groups except 0.06 taper ProFile showed significant difference from the nominal diameter (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Actual size of Ni-Ti file, especially TF, was different from the manufacturer's statements.

아급성 편마비 뇌졸중 환자의 보행에 로봇-보조훈련이 미치는 영향에 관한 체계적 고찰 (A Systematic Review of the Effects of Robotic-Assisted Training on Gait Performance in Persons with Subacute Hemiparetic Stroke)

  • Purpose: This systematic review aims to determine whether robot-assisted training is more effective in gait training for persons with subacute hemiparetic stroke. Methods: This study adopted a systematic review study design focused on subacute hemiparetic stroke, and four core academic databases were searched until June 11, 2021, for relevant studies, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and ProQuest Central. The review included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of robotic-assisted training on gait performance in persons with a diagnosis of subacute hemiparetic stroke. The selected RCT studies were qualitatively synthesized based on the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, settings, and study design (PICOS-SD). Results: The study selected five RCTs involving 253 subacute hemiparetic stroke patients and performing robotic-assisted gait training using the following devices: the Lokomat, Morning Walk, Walkbot, ProStep Plus, or Gait Trainer II. Five RCTs were eligible for the meta-analysis after quantitative synthesis, and the results showed that the robot-assisted gait training group had a greater gait performance than the control group based on the 10-meter walk test, Berg balance scale, Rivermed mobility index, functional ambulation category, and modified Barthel index. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the gait performance of subacute hemiparetic stroke patients changes throughout robot-assisted gait training, but there were no indications that any of the clinically relevant effects of robot-assisted training are greater than those of conventional gait training. Further, the small sample size and different therapeutic intensities indicate that definitive conclusions could not be made.

수수 추출물에 의한 primary 전립선 암세포의 caspase 의존성 apoptosis 유도 및 대식세포 면역활성 증가 (Sorghum Extract Enhances Caspase-dependent Apoptosis in Primary Prostate Cancer Cells and Immune Activity in Macrophages)

  • 본 연구에서는 수수 에탄올 추출물(ethanol extract of Sorghum bicolor L., SE)을 이용하여 RC-58T/h/SA#4 primary 인체 전립선 암세포에 대한 apoptosis 유도효과 및 RAW 264.7 마우스 대식세포에 대한 면역활성 증진효능에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. SE의 처리는 RC-58T/h/SA#4 세포의 증식을 억제하였으며 세포수축을 통한 형태학적 변화를 유발하였다. 또한 apoptosis 관련 지표현상인 apoptotic body 및 핵의 형태변화를 관찰할 수 있었다. RC-58T/h/SA#4 세포에 SE를 처리하였을 때 caspase-8, -9, -3 단백질 활성을 증가시켰으며 pro-apoptotic 단백질인 Bax, p53, 분절된 PARP 및 세포질의 cytochrome c 단백질은 증가시킨 반면, anti-apoptotic 단백질인 Bcl-2 단백질은 감소시켰다. 이는 z-VAD-fmk로 caspase 활성을 억제시켰을 때 SE에 의한 세포증식 억제효과가 감소되었으며 이를 통해 SE에 의한 세포증식 억제효과는 caspase 의존적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 면역반응에서 nitric oxide(NO)의 증가는 면역활성 지표로 여겨지며, 본 연구에서 SE를 처리하였을 때 RAW 264.7 세포에서 NO 생성능이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과들은 SE가 primary 전립선 암세포에서 caspase 의존형 apoptosis를 유도하며 대식세포의 면역활성을 증가시킨다는 것을 나타낸다. 따라서 수수를 전립선 암 예방 및 면역활성을 증진효능이 있는 기능성 식품 소재로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

Effects of beekeeping by-products in drinking water on the growth performance and intestinal and fecal microflora of ICR mice

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of beekeeping by-products added to drinking water on the growth performance and intestinal and fecal microflora of Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) mice. A total of 72 five-week-old ICR mice with an initial body weight (BW) of 24.57 ± 0.60 g were used in a two-week experiment. The four treatment groups were as follows; 1) CON, normal distilled water; 2) T1, CON with 0.7% beehive extract; 3) T2, CON with 0.7% propolis (PRO); and 4) T3, CON with 0.7% royal jelly (RJ). Each treatment consisted of 6 replicate cages with 3 mice per cage. At 0 - 1 week, T3 showed a significantly higher (p < 0.05) body weight gain (BWG) and feed efficiency (G : F) than that of CON. Compared with CON, T2 showed a significantly higher (p < 0.05) BWG and feed intake at 1 - 2 weeks. During the entire period, T2 and T3 showed a significantly higher (p < 0.05) BWG and G : F compared to CON. The amount of Salmonella and Lactobacillus in the large intestine was significantly decreased and increased (p < 0.05) in T2 and T3, respectively, compared to CON. The amount of Escherichia coli in the fecal matter was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) compared to CON in all treatment groups to which beekeeping by-products were added. In conclusion, the addition of PRO or RJ to the drinking water of ICR mice had a positive effect on the growth performance and the intestinal and fecal microflora.

Effects of Fruit By-product Extracts on Blood Characteristics, Antioxidant Activity, and Immune Response in Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of extracts from fruit by-products on the blood characteristics, antioxidant activities, and immune response to Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in growing pigs. A total of 96 pigs [(Landrace ${\times}$ Yorkshire) ${\times}$ Duroc] with an initial BW of $27.94{\pm}0.92kg$ were used in a 6-week feeding trial. The pigs were randomly placed into one of four treatment groups with six replications (four pigs per replication) per treatment according to their initial BW. Treatments were: 1) CON (basal diet), 2) PRO (CON + 0.5% procyanidin), 3) HES (CON + 0.5% hesperetin), 4) TAN (CON + 0.5% tannin). At the end of the sixth week, five pigs (total 20 pigs, $BW=27.94{\pm}0.92kg$) were selected from each treatment and injected with LPS ($100{\mu}g/kg$ of BW). Blood samples were collected 3 h after LPS injection to assess anti-oxidative and inflammatory responses. After the LPS challenge, the concentration of serum cholesterol decreased with fruit by-product treatment compared with CON (p<0.05). The administration of TAN increased the concentration of blood total protein compared with the CON group 3 h after LPS challenge (p<0.05). The albumin concentration was also higher with PRO treatment compared to HES treatment (p<0.05). The concentration of IgM was increased by fruit by-product supplementation at 0 and 3 h (p<0.05). In addition, IgG concentration was higher in PRO, HES, and TAN treatments compared to CON treatment at 0 h, and IgG concentrations were also higher in the HES group compared to the CON group at 3 h (p<0.05). The concentration of IgA also increased with fruit by-product treatments at 3 h (p<0.05). In conclusion, dietary supplementation with fruit by-products may moderate the immune response after a LPS challenge in growing pigs.

굴 효소 가수분해물의 angiotensin converting enzyme 저해작용 (Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitory Activity of Enzymatic Hydrolysates of Crassostrea gigas (Oyster))

  • 굴 효소 가수분해물은 굴을 alcalase, protamex, neutrase, flavourzyme, pepsin으로 각각 처리하였고, 이들의 ACE 저해활성을 측정하였다. ACE 저해활성은 가수분해 시간에 따라 증가 또는 감소하였으며, 그 중 10시간 이상 가수분해 처리한 PEH에서 가장 높은 ACE 저해활성을 나타내었다. PEH 가수분해물을 한외여과(30, 10 kDa) 하여 낮은 분자량의 분획물을 얻었다. 30 kDa와 10 kDa 이하 분자량 별 ACE 저해활성은 각각 $69.18{\pm}0.75$, $83.71{\pm}1.12$의 활성을 나타내었다. 이 결과 10 kDa 이하의 시료로부터 HPLC column (watchers 120 ODS-AP $250{\times}4.6$ ($5{\mu}m$))을 이용하여 각각의 활성 분획을 분취하여 얻은 6분획의 ACE 저해 활성은 29.56~85.85% 로 나타났다. 그 중 저해활성이 가장 높게 나타나는 B fraction의 아미노산 서열을 확인한 결과 Leu-Gln-Pro 임을 확인하였고, peptide합성하여 얻은 저해활성 농도($IC_{50}$)가 1.18 uM임을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과는 PEH를 이용하여 건강 기능성 식품의 개발에 도움이 될 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

위령탕 혼합단미연조엑스의 항염증 효과 (Anti-inflammatory Effects of Wiryeong-tang Mix Soft Extract)

  • Objectives : Wiryeong-tang (WRT) is a traditional herbal medicine used to treat kidney-related diseases. However, the anti-inflammatory and anti-gastritis effect of Wiryeong-tang was not well known. Therefore, we experimented to confirmed the anti-inflammatory and anti-gastritis effects of Wiryeong-tang. Methods : The RAW 264.7 cells were pre treated with Wiryeong-tang mix soft extract (WRT-mse; 50, 100 and 200 ㎍/mL) for 1 hrs, and then incubated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 500 ng/mL). Cell viability was measured by the MTT method, and nitric oxide (NO) was measured with griess reagent. In addition, pro-inflammatory cytokines were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). For anti-gastritis effect in vivo, acute gastritis was induced using 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol used ICR mice. WRT-mse (133 mg/kg) was pre treated for 3 days and then treated with 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol 1 hrs later. Then gastritis was observed and inflammatory cytokines in the gastric tissue was measured. Results : The 8 marker components of the WRT-mse were determined by simultaneous analysis using HPLC. WRT-mse was not toxic and inhibited pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α at NO production, protein and mRNA levels. Also, it was confirmed that WRT-mse improved bleeding and edema in gastritis, and suppresses inflammatory cytokines. Conclusion : In summary, our results suggest that the treatment of the WRT-mse reduced and improved the 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol induced acute gastritis and the inflammation caused by LPS stimulation in RAW 264.7 cells. Therefore, this study may provide useful drug or clinical evidence for WRT-mse to prevent inflammation.

까마귀쪽나무 열매 추출물의 골관절염 억제 효과 (Anti-osteoarthritis Effects on Fruit Extract of Litsea japonica)

  • 본 연구는 까마귀쪽나무 열매 70% 주정에탄올 추출물을 가지고 제작된 인체적용시험시료(LJTM)의 항염증 및 골관절염 biomarker의 변화를 통한 관절건강 기능성식품을 개발하기 위하여 인체적용시험시료를 제작한 후 이에 대한 유효성분의 함량을 평가하고, 인체적용시험전에 그 효력이 유지됨을 확인하기 위하여 수행되었다. 본 연구에 사용된 시료 LJTM은 NO생성이 억제되는 농도에서 세포독성이 관찰되지 않았으며, TNF-α와 IL-6 생성이 농도 의존적으로 억제되고 PGE2를 억제하였다. 또한 동물시험에서 골관절염의 biomarker인 MMP-2, 3, 7, 9와 TIMP-1, 2에 대한 mRNA 발현이 농도 의존적으로 억제되었으며, 중추신경계 및 말초신경계에 의한 통증을 억제하는 것으로 평가되었다. 따라서 까마귀쪽나무 열매 70% 추출물이 함유된 인체적용시험시료(LJTM)는 골관절염과 진통억제에 우수한 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다.

An Empirical Study on the Characteristic Influences of the Rules of Origin on the Implementation of Preferential Tariffs and Trade Performance

  • Purpose - This study categorizes factors that influence the utilization of preferential tariffs based on the characteristics of rules of origin (RoO) and identifies and analyzes the influence of these characteristics on the utilization of preferential tariffs and the trade performance of companies. Design/methodology - In this study, we categorized factors that have an influence on the utilization of preferential tariffs based on the characteristics of RoO and investigated and tested the influence of these characteristics on the utilization of preferential tariffs and the trade performance of companies. For empirical analysis, we categorized the characteristics of RoO into restrictiveness, complexity, and uncertainty. We then developed a research model and formulated hypotheses based on previous studies, and tested the hypotheses using statistical software-(SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 18.0.) Findings - Previous studies suggested that each characteristic of RoO is determined by unique features of a Regional Trade Agreement (RTA). This study conducted an empirical analysis on the influence of the characteristics of RoO on the utilization of preferential tariffs and trade performance. The results confirmed that, overall, the characteristics of preferential rules of origin (PRoO) are related to and influence Korean companies' utilization of preferential tariffs and trade performance. As for the degree of the influence, the characteristics were in the order of uncertainty> restrictiveness> complexity. Nevertheless, complexity turned out not to have an influence large enough to change a company's decision on the utilization of preferential tariffs. Based on these results, this study identified unique features of PRoO and related problems for Korean companies that want to utilize preferential tariffs and suggested countermeasures for their effective utilization of preferential tariffs in the future. Originality/value - Companies that want to use preferential tariffs in international trade have to satisfy PRoO. The issue of origin can be regarded as an essential part of an RTA and RoO, are a crucial criterion in using preferential tariffs. The rules are requirements to claim benefits of preferential trade agreements and are the primary reasons companies have trouble in utilizing preferential tariffs. In this sense, this study categorized the characteristics of RoO, which are a key part of an RTA, and surveyed working-level professionals in charge of international trade at Korean companies to investigate the relationship between these characteristics and the utilizations of preferential tariffs and trade performance of the companies.

칼슘실리케이트 계열 실러로 충전한 근관에서 재치료용 NiTi 파일의 효율성 (Efficacy of retreatment NiTi files for root canals filled with calcium silicate-based sealer)

  • 목적: 근관 치료에 사용된 실러의 양과, 재치료용 NiTi 파일이 근관충전재의 제거 효율에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 재료 및 방법: 발거된 소구치 중 단일 근관을 가지는 치아를 대상으로 하였다. #40/.06까지 근관 형성을 한 후, 무작위로 4 그룹으로 분류하였다. 근관충전재 중 실러가 차지하는 양을 다르게 하기 위해 그룹 별로 .06 taper 또는 .04 taper 거타퍼차를 칼슘실리케이트 실러인 Ceraseal과 함께 사용하여 single-cone 충전법으로 충전하였다. 그룹 별로 재치료용 NiTi 파일로는 ProTaper Universal Retreatment system (PTUR) 또는 Hyflex Remover (HR)를 사용하였다. 충전재 제거에 걸린 시간, 치근단 방출 잔사량, 근관 내의 충전재 잔존량을 측정하고 비교하였다. 결과: 근관치료에 사용된 실러의 양은 충전재 제거 효율에 영향을 미치지 않았다. HR 그룹은 PTUR 그룹보다 빠르게 충전재를 제거하였다. 치근단 방출 잔사량과 근관충전재 잔존량은 재치료용 NiTi 파일의 종류에 따라 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 결론: 근관치료에 사용된 실러의 양은 제거 효율에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. HR는 기존의 PTUR보다 빠르게 충전재를 제거했으며, 다른 제거 효율은 차이가 없었다.
