  • Rehabilitation projects for old water mains typically require considerable capital investments. One of the economical ways of pursuing the rehabilitation projects is to focus on a specific area within the entire region under management. In this paper the hierarchical clustering methods that analyze spatial inter-relationship of location data are applied to about 8,000 water leak location data recorded in a case study area from 1992 to 1997. Among the hierarchical clustering methods Single, Complete, and Average Linkage Methods are used to identify clusters of the water leak locations and to divide the area according to the defined clusters. By comparing the clusters identified by the clustering methods, the best clustering method for the case study area is suggested. Prioritization of the area for maintenance is obtained based on the water leak incident intensity for the clustered area using the suggested best clustering method.

  • Thisstudy presentsthe development of a fast-time airport surface simulator. The simulator usesthe output from a first-come first-served (FCFS) scheduler and has adopted one-dimensional dynamic model to simulate the movement of the aircraft on the surface. Higher collision risks situations in the airport surface traffic are analyzed to classify those situations into six cases. A conflict detection and resolution algorithm is implemented to maintain separation distance and to prevent deadlock. The simulator was tested with a scenario at the Incheon International Airport that contains 72 aircraft. Without the conflict detection and resolution, various conflict situations are identified. When the conflict detection and resolution algorithm is managing the traffic, it is confirmed that the conflicts are removed at the price of additional delays. In the conflict resolution algorithm, three prioritization strategies are implemented, and delayed aircraft count and average additional delays are compared. Prioritization based on remaining time or distance showed smaller total additional delay compared to choosing minimum delay priority for each situation.

  • As software grows continuously in scale and complexity, the role of software architecture has become increasingly important across various industries. Although software architects often rely on their experience and intuition when designing such architecture, there is a variety of methodologies being researched for architecture design. However, these methodologies do not address the specific effects of applying multiple architectural patterns to a system or the sequence in which they should be applied. In this study, we explain the variation in architectural design results depending on the order in which the same set of architectural patterns is applied to a single system. Based on this phenomenon, we identify requirements for applying architectural patterns and propose a method of classifying the patterns to be applied. We also propose a prioritization process for requirements to efficiently apply the classified patterns in a specific order. Finally, we show a case study that prioritizing requirements based on architectural pattern types is beneficial for efficient software architecture design in terms of quality attributes.

  • Objectives: Based on a survey of officers, social workers, and dietitians involved in managing nutrition and welfare policies or projects for vulnerable groups in local governments or private welfare institutions, this study aimed to assess the need for nutritional and dietary support policies and programs for persons with disabilities (PWD), as well as to identify appropriate support measures. Methods: An online survey was conducted from March 2 to 15, 2021. The survey included 20 questions exploring perspectives on the nutritional status of PWD, their need for nutritional and dietary support policies and programs, and the prioritization of appropriate support measures. A total of 132 responses were analyzed. Results: Approximately 68.9% of the respondents rated the nutritional status of PWD as "bad" or "very bad." A substantial number identified "difficulty in purchasing ingredients, cooking, and preparing meals independently due to disability," and "limited knowledge about nutrition and recipes necessary for maintaining a healthy and balanced diet" as the primary challenges in the dietary and nutritional management of this population. Additionally, 97.0% of the respondents deemed that the introduction of nutritional and dietary support policies and programs for PWD was "needed" or "very much needed." Priority strategies to implement and strengthen these policies and systems included the "development of customized programs and services tailored to the needs and demands of the target population" and the "establishment of a dedicated department with specialized personnel." Conclusion: Comprehensive nutritional and dietary support policies and programs should be actively implemented to ensure a healthy and stable diet for PWD, tailored to meet their actual needs and demands.

  • In this paper, a novel air-interface is presented for Fleet-Net1, a self-organizing network for inter-vehicle and vehicle-toroadsidecommunication. The air-interface is based upon the lowchip-rate version of UMTS/TDD. To adapt the cellular UMTS standard to an air-interface for ad hoc networks, changes of the physical layer, medium access control sub-layer and radio resource management are required. An overview of the required modifications is given here. Particularly, a decentralized synchronization mechanism is presented and analyzed by means of simulations. Furthermore, changes for the medium access control are explained in detail, which allow for an efficient operation in partly meshed networks and prioritization. Performance results of the overall system considering throughput and delay are derived by means of analytical evaluations and event-driven simulations. Based on realistic mobility models, it is shown that the presented solution provides a robust communication platform even in vehicular environments. The proposed air-interface is a cost-effective solution not only for inter-vehicle communication, but also for ad hoc networking in general, benefiting from the mass-market of UMTS.
