  • Metal three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies are mainly classified as powder bed fusion (PBF) and direct energy deposition (DED) methods according to the method of application of a laser beam to metallic powder. The DED method can be used to fabricate fine and hard 3D metallic structures by applying a strong laser beam to a thin layer of metallic powder. The PBF method involves slicing 3D graphics to be a certain height, laminating metal powders, and making a 3D structure using a laser. While the DED method has advantages such as laser cladding and metallic welding, it causes problems with low density when 3D shapes are created. The PBF method was introduced to address the structural density issues in the DED method and makes it easier to produce relatively dense 3D structures. In this paper, thin lines were produced by using PBF 3D printers with stainless-steel powder of roughly $30{\mu}m$ in diameter with a galvano scanner and fiber-transferred Nd:YAG laser beam. Experiments were carried out to find the optimal conditions for the width of a line depending on the processing times, laser power, spot size, and scan speed. The optimal conditions were two scanning processes in one line structure with a laser power of 30 W, spot size of $28.7{\mu}m$, and scan speed of 200 mm/s. With these conditions, a minimum width of about $85.3{\mu}m$ was obtained.

  • Recent 3D printing technology has been grafting onto various medical practices. In light of this trend, this research is intended to examine the figuration surface's accuracy of 3D images made by using DICOM images after printing by 3D printing. The medical images were obtained from animal bone objects, while the objects were printed after undergoing STL file conversion for 3D printing purposes. Ultimately, after the 3D figuration, which was obtained by the original animal bones and 3D printing, was scanned by 3D scanner, 3D modeling was merged each other and the differences were compared. The result analysis was conducted by visual figuration comparison, color comparison of modeling's scale value, and numerical figuration comparison. The shape surface was not visually distinguished; the numerical figuration comparison was made from the values measured from the four different points on the X, Y and Z coordinates. The shape surface of the merged modeling was smaller than the original object (the animal bone) by average of -0.49 mm in the 3D printed figuration. However, not all of the shape surface was uniformly reduced in size and the differences was within range of -0.83 mm on the experiment.

  • Recently, there has been an increase in the number of web-based three-dimensional (3D) printing-related service platforms, which allow consumers to collect 3D modeling data, make requests for production, and receive goods through a distribution service using the service platform. The application of 3D printing technology has been expanded to the construction field, yet no guidelines for the related service platform or operation examples can be found. Therefore, the functions of 10 web-based 3D printing service platforms actively used in other industries were investigated and analyzed in this study, and the analysis results were used as a guideline to develop a 3D printing service platform for the construction industry. In addition, the design, construction and distribution services to be equipped with the construction 3D printing service integration platform were presented by creating the driving scenario of the platform. As 3D printing technology develops, the overall construction and architectural paradigms for design, construction and distribution will change. To prepare for such changes and to pioneer the digital construction market in the future, the role of the 3D printing service platform is expected to increase continually.

  • Coarse aggregate is produced in various ways depending on the location and production method. Currently, the construction industry is in need of a stable supply of coarse aggregate and a way to secure standard quality. The purpose of this study is to examine whether the use of coarse aggregate in 3D printing can help solve this problem. ABS filament was selected for use in 3D printing. CATIA was used for the design of the coarse aggregate, and CUBICON Single Plus was used for the production. Six specimens were produced and cured in water for 28 days. Three of them were made with AE agent, and three were made without it. A compressive strength test confirmed that when the AE agent was used, the compressive strength was greater than the lightweight concrete design criterion specified in the concrete standard specification. This suggests that coarse aggregate produced by a 3D printer may be used for lightweight concrete. A mass production system using this method could help to solve the problems facing the construction industry, such as stable supply and demand for coarse aggregate and securing standard quality.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the shear bond strength of 3D printing denture base resin according to surface treatment of artificial teeth. Materials and methods: 3D printing denture base resin was fabricated as specimens using 3D printer. The experimental group divided the surface treatment of artificial teeth into five groups according to the application of sandblasting and primer (n=10). Shear bond strengths between denture base and artificial teeth were measured by universal testing machine. All measurements were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Turkey test (α=.05). Fracture mode of each specimen was analyzed. Microscopic evaluation was conducted by using a scanning electron microscope. Results: Unsurfaced treated group represented the lowest value. The primer groups had significantly higher result values (P<.05). Most specimens of the primer groups had cohesive failure. Conclusion: In 3D printing denture base resin group, mechanical and chemical surface treatment of artificial teeth has increased the shear bond strength. Therefore, if dentures are produced using 3D printing, proper mechanical and chemical treatment of artificial teeth is necessary for adhesion of dentures and artificial teeth.

  • With the recent development of 3D printers, there is a growing need to make them similar to real products. As a result, FDM full-color 3D printers have been developed and actively distributed, but GUI design has fallen short of that, causing confusion among users. Accordingly, this study conducted a literature survey, and through a case study, the current status of FDM full-color 3D printers was identified and the components of GUI design were analyzed based on prior research. The draft checklist was drawn up according to the components of the derived GUI design, and 24 items were deleted through the three Delphi surveys and the validity of the remaining 26 items was verified. As a result, the layout should consist of intuitive screen configuration and menus with high frequency of use, and the text should be intuitive and clearly communicated. In addition, the icon should be placed in a visible position and used in real life to image it. Finally, we could see that the color should be used to give feedback to the user using the highlight color and not overlap the output.

  • In this study the stem analysis program, which can be operated with personal computer was developed to reduce time and cost of calculation, and to increase accuracy of analysis. The stem analysis method used in this program was compared with other methods. The results obtained were as follows : The value, 1/100mm measured from the latest annual ring measurement machine (Jahrringme${\beta}$geraete Johan Type II) was automatically inputed to the computer and saved into given file name. Turbo Pascal program was written to do this. The measured data was analyzed by stem analysis calculation program written by Fortran-77. Volume and height increments were approximated by spline function, and diameter of the stem disk was calculated by quadratic mean method. The increment values calculated by the programs were printed annually and in every five-year. Stem analysis diagram and several increment graphs were also easily printed. The result compared between those analysis methods showed that quadratic mean could reduce the error caused from eccentric pith. When the stem taper curve method, approximated by spline function, was used in the calculation of tree height and volume, increments would be more exactly calculated.

  • Multilevel inkjet printer employs multiple ink droplets with variable dot size and/or different concentrations intended to preserve high fidelity color reproduction and the appearance of continuous tone. A variety of research efforts on multitoning techniques has progressed toward better image quality. However, banding artifacts appear due to the same dot distributions near the printable output levels. This results in discontinuity and visually unpleasing output, especially at the smooth tone transition region. In this paper, to reduce the banding artifacts, a multitoning method to arrange ink distribution by controlling the blending proportion of adjacent output pixels based on an improved threshold scaling function is proposed. Ink distributions across the banding regions are changed according to two factors of the threshold scaling function because these factors handle the blending point of adjacent output pixel. Therefore, 8 observers, subjectively investigated ink distributions around the printable output levels for a set of the improved threshold scaling function. For a threshold scaling function with the specific factor values, we can achieve smoother visual transition. In the experiment, the proposed method showed a reduction of banding artifacts in both u-ay and color image and represented better Performance of color reproduction.
