  • An accurate characterization of the display device is essential for better color matching. The calibration and characterization process in display device is needed to transform the device dependent color to the device independent color. The process of characterization performs a linearization and transforms the linearized values into the CIE XYZ tristimulus values. The purposes of this paper is to propose optimal color transformation method for accurate reproduction of original copy in display device and to explain the propriety of transformation method using specific variable for the power of gradation expression.

  • There has been an enormous emergence of imaging systems dedicated to hardcopy and softcopy color-appearance comparisons. Pre-press industry use the CRT as a soft proofing device to preview and aid with color corrections and changes before producing the final printed image. Color DTP system is required an accurate image-matching between CRT-image and printed image. In other to develop the color DTP,CRT calibration and CRT color transform to CIE color system are necessary. In this paper, we described a method CRT color transform to CIELab color system using RGB image raw data. Experimental results show that described method is useful valid of color image matching.

  • The aim of this study is to develope eco-printing method using natural pigments and chitosan as a natural binder. Three chitosans with different molecular weights were employed to find appropriate conditions including chitosan concentration and pigment/binder ratio. Dye uptake, color and fastnesses of the printed fabrics were evaluated to find optimum conditions within the range of experiments carried out in this study. The effectiveness of chitosan as a printing binder was examined in comparison with color, dye uptake, and fastnesses of conventional synthetic binder and guar gum. It was found that chitosans with low or medium molecular weight were appropriate. Using low molecular weight chitosan, optimum concentrations were 1.7% for charcoal, madder and chlorophyll, whereas 2.2% for ocher, yellow soil, indigo and cochineal. Regardless of molecular weight and concentration of chitosan, the color fastnesess of fabrics printed with mineral pigments were superior to those of the fabrics printed with plant and animal pigments. As pigment/chitosan ratio became higher, rubbing fastness was decreased by 1-3 grade. The colorfastness of printed fabric with chitosan binder was similar to that with synthetic binder, which was higher than that with guar gum.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to assess and compare the color stability, flexural strength (FS), and surface roughness of occlusal splints fabricated from heat-cured acrylic resin, milled polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)-based resin, and 3D-printed (PMMA) based-resin. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Samples of each type of resin were obtained, and baseline measurements of color and surface roughness were recorded. The specimens were divided into three groups (n = 10) and subjected to distinct aging protocols: thermomechanical cycling (TMC), simulated brushing (SB), and control (without aging). Final assessments of color and surface roughness and three-point bending test (ODM100; Odeme) were conducted, and data were statistically analyzed (2-way ANOVA, Tukey, P <.05). RESULTS. Across all resin types, the most significant increase in surface roughness (Ra) was observed after TMC (P < .05), with the 3D-printed resin exhibiting the lowest Ra (P < .05). After brushing, milled resin displayed the highest Ra (P < .05) and greater color alteration (∆E00) compared to 3D-printed resin. The most substantial ∆E00 was recorded after brushing for all resins, except for heat-cured resin subjected to TMC. Regardless of aging, milled resin exhibited the highest FS (P < .05), except when compared to 3D-printed resin subjected to TMC. Heat-cured resin exposed to TMC demonstrated the lowest FS, different (P < .05) from the control. Under control conditions, milled resin exhibited the highest FS, different (P < .05) from the brushed group. 3D-printed resin subjected to TMC displayed the highest FS (P < .05). CONCLUSION. Among the tested resins, 3D-printed resin demonstrated superior longevity, characterized by minimal surface roughness and color alterations. Aging had a negligible impact on its mechanical properties.

  • The comversion of printed maps into computerixed data bases is an enormous rask. Thus the autmaotion of the conversion process is essential. Efficient computer representation of printed maps and line drawings depends on codes assigened to chracaters, symbools, and vestor representation of the graphics. In many cases, maps ard constructed in a number of layers, where each layer is printed in a distinct color, and it represents a subste of the map infromation. In order to properly repressnet road information from color map images, an automatic road extraction algorithm is proposed. Road image is separated from graghics by color segmentation, and then restored by the proposed concurrent conditional dilation operation. The internal and external noise of the road image is eliminated by opening and closing operation. By thining and vectorizing line segments, the desited road information is extracted.

  • The Color Management System in recent printers adopts ICC profiles for both monitors and printers. However, the ICC profile doesn't contain the characteristics of reproduced color on each monitor, because the color on each monitor is changed by user adjustment such as color temperature, brightness, and contrast adjustment. It is also depended on the backlight type and lifetime. As a result, unwanted color is reproduced on the printed paper, not like that on the monitor. To overcome the color difference between monitors and printers, it is needed to control the information of ICC profile. That is, first, the ICC profile is generated by the measurement of monitors having user set, then, through the CMS, the color on monitors can be produced on printed paper. However, it is difficult to apply the above system for normal users due to absence of measuring equipment and time consuming process. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel color matching technique based on the estimation of condition for each monitor having user set. The estimation is performed by a simple comparison visual test using a test image on printed paper and monitor. Then, the condition of monitor is applied to the ICC profile. As a result, the new ICC profile contains the color difference between user monitor and printer. The experimental results show the printed images using our proposed method have almost similar color with those on monitors.

  • The conventional coated paper has many functional problems for printed RFID tag. This study was carried out in order to evaluate the effect of coating color components on conductivity of printed coated paper. It has been well known that the efficiency of printed RFID tag is influenced by surface properties of substrate. The required properties for suitable substrate of printed RFID tag are high smoothness and waterproof property. In this study high grammage base paper surface sized with PVA was used. Coated paper was manufactured with five different formulations. Types of coating pigments and dosage of latex were varied. It was obtained high smoothness and also less binder demand with clay than GCC. On the other hand, suitable surface resistance and smoothness of coated paper for RFID tag was obtained with 20% of latex. Besides it shows the possibility of using coated paper for printed RFID tag.

  • Color laser printers are nowadays abused to print or forge official documents and bills. Identifying color laser printers will be a step for media forensics. This paper presents a new method to identify color laser printers with printed color images. Since different printer companies use their own printing process, each of printed papers from different printers has a little different invisible noise. After the wiener-filter is used to analyze the invisible noises from each printer, we extract some features from these noises by calculating a gray level co-occurrence matrix. Then, these features are applied to train and classify the support vector machine for identifying the color laser printer. In the experiment, we use total 2,597 images from 7 color laser printers. The results prove that the presented identification method performs well using the noise features of color printed images.

  • Model-based color image halftoning method using dot-pattern database is proposed for low-resolution color image printing. Dot-pattern database used in the proposed method is based on Blue-Noise Mask. The database consists of dot-patterns constructed by circular dot-overlap model according to each color value. In halftoning procedure, input color value is reproduced as the dot-pattern selected to minimize the difference between the color values of the original image and those of the printed image. Also, the contrast sensitivity function as a human visual model is used to improve the perceived quality of the printed image in dot-pattern selection. Thus, the proposed method can substantially reproduce the color values of the pixels in original image and obtain better image quality. In the experiment, the proposed method has less ΔΕ/Sub ab/ between the original image in monitor and the printed one than that of ED and BNM halftoning. This result approves that the proposed method reproduces better image quality.

  • Reproduced colors which are half-tone dot printed at the rate of 10, 20, 30, 100% half-tone dot area by each process ink-cyan, magenta and yellow ant at the rate of 10, 20, 30, 100% by the mean color mixing of black, cyan, magenta and yellow, are colorimetric analyzed by make use of the 1931 CIE XYZ system of color specification and matching the Munsell color system. With increased half-tone areas, 1. Yellow has ideal reflectance curve, but magneta has nonideal reflectance curve. 2. Yellow and cyan have almost standard dominant wavelengths but magenta has complementary wavelengths. 3. Yellow has higher excitation purities in primary colors, but low excitation purities in secondary and third colors. 4. Value function is decreased and generally the range of value function in chromaticity diafgram is extented. 5. The properties of black and CMY printed materials have not equality, therefore black process ink is necessery in half-tone printing process.
