The "Third Wave": Values associated with Effective Learning of Mathematics in Australian Primary Classrooms

  • The study reported here is the Australian component of an international research project which seeks to identify student-reported convictions co-valued by them and their teachers during moments of effective mathematics learning. The 2 teachers and their 12 students in the 2 primary school classes associated effective moments of learning with 13 different values. No gender difference was apparent. Although the teachers planned their lessons together and were teaching similar topics, there were differences in what were co-valued. Of the 13 values, examples, sharing, resources, and multimodal representations were found to be commonly valued by students across the 'ability' groups, while the others related to particular 'ability' groups only.

  • This study is on the architectural planning and factors for secondary schools. The methods in the approach to the results were settled. A sample of factors that affect architectural scale design were drawn from architectural design direction for a secondary school architectural scale estimation direction. These factors arc broken into primary elements and situational elements. Primary elements include students, teachers, and time. Situational elements include public use percentage, classroom percentage, unit area, coefficient of utilization, etc. The 7 architectural planning criteria to cover changes of various architectural scale design elements are the following; 1) consideration of students selection percentage, 2) consideration of the number of teachers, 3) a variety of possible classrooms, 4) organic operation, 5) efficient time management, 6) consideration of different teaching method depending on subjects, 7) coefficient of utilization with flexibility.

Developing children's non-cognitive skills by early entrepreneurship education

  • This research aims to explore the influence of early entrepreneurial education on cognitive and non-cognitive abilities of male sixth-grade primary school pupils using a randomized pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 45 students were randomly allocated to experimental, active-control, and control groups using a multi-stage random selection procedure. The experimental group was taught entrepreneurship using the Bizworld entrepreneurship education package. The active control group did not get entrepreneurship education but was instructed on a non-entrepreneurship-related issue (hygiene). The Control group received no instruction. The findings revealed that early entrepreneurial education skills impacted noncognitive abilities (such as risk-taking propensity, creativity, self-efficacy, persistence, and need for achievement). Early entrepreneurship education seems to be an effective technique for developing children's non-cognitive abilities in the late years of primary school. As a result, entrepreneurship education may be taught in primary schools, emphasizing the development of non-cognitive abilities, which will affect children's individual, educational, social, and vocational futures and can have long-term advantages for students, families, and society.

Design a Learning Management System Platform for Primary Education

  • E-learning systems have proliferated in recent years, particularly in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic. For kids, there isn't a specific online learning platform available, though. To do this, new conceptual models of training and learning software that are adapted to the abilities and preferences of end users must be created. Young pupils: those in kindergarten, preschool, and elementary school are unique subjects with little research history. From the standpoint of software technology, young students who have never had access to a computer system are regarded as specific users with high expectations for the functionality and interface of the software, social network connectivity, and instantaneous Internet communication. In this study, we suggested creating an electronic learning management system that is web-based and appropriate for primary school pupils. User-centered design is the fundamental technique that was applied in the development of the system that we are proposing. Test findings have demonstrated that students who are using the digital environment for the first time are studying more effectively thanks to the online learning management system.

Social Dimensions of Peer Interaction: Primary School Children Working with English Learning Software

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate social aspects of young EFL learners' interaction at the computer. Data were taken from the interactions of three pairs of fourth-grade primary school children who worked together on English learning software. Their interactions at the computer were videotaped and then all the talk produced by the students and the utterances emitted from the computer were transcribed. As for the analytical tools, the notion of ‘contextualization cues’ (Gumperz, 1982) and the concept of ‘positioning’ (Davies & Harre,1990) were employed. The analysis reveals that the roles of the students were not tied to a certain position, but rather dynamically changed during the course of interactive work according to the situation at hand. The dynamic changes in their positions were realized through various means; their capability in solving problems, their taking responsibility or assigning it to each other, or cooperation. There were also instances of peer teaching and motivated learning. In addition, the students showed autonomy in their learning activity. These findings suggest that both students in a dyad had their own place in performing task activities, contributing to solving problems and getting benefits from peer interaction. Furthermore, students' working together on English learning software may provide an environment which can promote cooperative attitude and responsibility for learning and enhance motivation and autonomy in their learning process.

초등학교 수학 교실에서의 수학화를 위한 신문 활용 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Use of Newspaper Articles for Mathematising in the Primary School Mathematics)

  • This study intended to search for the way of NIE use as follows: 1) Setting up theoretical base about the way of NIE use to math loaming in primary school. 2) Analyzing the course mathematising through NIE use in math learning in practice. 3) Searching for the way of NIE use to aim at mathematising. As the result, this presented NIE model for mathematising according to the character of each step of the mathematising course. This paper says two things : The first, the way for using learning materials as reonstructing articles of newspapers to teach math learning 1) is searched for each information, scrapped to materialize. 2)is to extract the contents of NIE teaming available to the field and the unit of math curriculum. 3) searches for and applies the model for math NIE teaming. 4) makes up learning materials for each level using articles and presents the matters of deepening and supplement suitable for students. The second, the way for teaching math NIE with a view to helping students' mathematising during the course of teachers' math teaming. 1) reconstructs materials chosen by students' reality. 2) should offer students' communication and abundant context materials which mathematical model is possible. 3)needs to guide students to have motivation teaming so that they can mathematise their real matters by rediscovery 4) progresses mathematical activity using newspapers so that they can apply to new reality by applying informed Idea.

탱그램과 모자이크퍼즐의 활용에 관한 연구 (An Analysis Research of Mathematics Classes utilizing Tangrams and Mosaic Puzzles)

  • In this study we tried to find the method of using the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles together for learning the elementary geometry in the Korean primary schools. The tangram and the mosaic puzzle activity-panels were developed and the activity-cards for them also were designed. The criteria to be used for the analyses of contents of the activity-cards were developed. We surveyed and analyzed the students' responses, A previous research had insisted that solely using the tangrams were not useful in learning about an obtuse-angled triangle in the elementary geometry (Welchman, 1999), but the combinative uses of the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles were found to extend the limits of the previous study in investigating the figures of the plain diagrams. Actually, the tangrams and the mosaic puzzles helped the students to learn the concepts of several elements of the plain diagrams such as 'angles', 'sides', and 'angular points', with students'operational comparison of the diagrams developed with them. They also provided useful clues in learning the relationship between the 'length' and the 'area' of the Plain diagrams. The students participated in the class with much activities, using the operational learning materials. They also comprehended the concepts and the principles of the elementary geometry more thoroughly, expressing their ideas in spoken or written languages through interactive communication. In conclusion, the tangram and mosaic puzzles can be used for learning the elementary geometry of the primary school level as motivative learning materials, helping students enhance diverse mathematical thinking and discover mathematical principles.

감각통합중재에 대한 인식도 및 취업선호도에 대한 교육프로그램의 효과 및 필요성 연구 : 작업치료전공 대학생을 중심으로 (A Study on the Effects and Needs of Educational Programs on Awareness and Preference for Sensory Integration Intervention : Focusing on college students in the department of occupational therapy)

  • Purpose : This study aims to investigate occupational therapy students' perceptions of sensory integration therapy and the effect of an educational program on these perceptions and future preferences. Methods : The participants were 200 occupational therapy students in Busan and Gyeongsangnam-do. A primary survey was first conducted to shed light on students' perceptions of sensory integration therapy, followed by an education program on sensory integration provided through an online video. After this training on sensory integration therapy, an additional survey assessed the their preferred employment routes and intention to take educational courses on clinical sensory integration therapy in the future. A secondary survey was then conducted, using the same form as the primary survey, to identify changes in the students' perceptions of and preferences for sensory integration therapy. A frequency analysis using descriptive statistics was employed to identify the participants' general characteristics, employment-related preferences, and intention to take courses on sensory integration, and a paired samples t-test was used for a comparative analysis of the students' perceptions before and after the education program. Results : In terms of the students' perceptions of sensory integration therapy, the variables of efficiency, facilitation, and expertise showed statistically significant differences before and after the educational program, which resulted in a positive change in their overall perceptions of the therapy after the program. In relation to their preferred employment routes after the program, 100 students (50 %) answered the "field of adults," and 100 (50 %) students answered the "field of children." Conclusion : The findings of this study demonstrated that sensory integration education positively influences occupational therapy students' preferences for and perceptions of sensory integration therapy. Additional research is recommended to organize a more systematic education program and investigate employees in organizations related to children with disabilities.

교육용로봇기반 SW융합교육이 초등학생의 컴퓨팅 사고력, 협업능력 및 의사소통능력에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Educational Robot-based SW Convergence Education on Primary Students' Computational Thinking, Collaborative and Communication Skills)

  • 소프트웨어교육은 학습자로 하여금 문제의 해결책을 정보처리 체계에 의해 효과적으로 처리되도록 문제를 구성하고 자신의 사고를 제시할 수 있는 컴퓨팅 사고력 증진을 목표로 하고 있다. 더욱이 이 컴퓨팅 사고력이 발현되는 문제해결의 장이 실제적인 사회적 맥락 속에서 의미 있는 문제해결의 경험을 제공해 줄 때 더 바람직한 소프트웨어교육이 될 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 소프트웨어교육에서 구체적인 결과물을 볼 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있는 교육용 로봇을 활용하여 학습자가 몰입하여 해결할 수 있는 사회적 문제 상황 속에서 로봇과 프로그래밍을 결합하여 동료들과 함께 문제를 해결할 수 있는 기회를 제공하는 로봇기반 SW융합수업을 초등학교 4학년 학생을 대상으로 운영하고 그 효과를 컴퓨팅 사고력과 사회적 역량(협업능력과 의사소통능력) 측면에서 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 초등교육 현장에서 사회적 맥락을 가진 문제해결상황에서 컴퓨팅 사고력을 배양할 수 있는 교육용로봇기반 SW융합수업 사례를 제공하고, 이 수업의 효과성을 컴퓨팅 사고력과 사회적 역량의 관점에서 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
