  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the convergence effects of the experience of adult preventive care on the treatment satisfaction and the dental fear, and the survey was conducted from January to April 2017 for 292 adults of aged 20 years or older living in the metropolitan area. The collected data were subjected to $x^2-test$, t-test and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 22.0 program. Fluoride application was the most prevalent experience of adult preventive treatment, and the satisfaction level of the treatment was high in case of fluoride application was experienced. On the other hand, dental fear was lower if preventive scaling was experienced. As a result of multiple regression analysis, variables affecting patient satisfaction were experience of fluoride application, and the variables affecting dental fear level were oral health condition and preventive scaling experience. The result of this study was confirmed that the satisfaction level of treatment was increased and the dental fear was lowered. Therefore, improvement of oral health promotion can be expected by recognizing of the importance of preventive treatment and providing of the dental preventive service through oral health education.

The obtained results were as follows; 1. Cervical abrasion experience rate was 18.6% in Korean adults. 2. Cervical abrasion experience rate in male adults was higher than that in female adults. 3. Cervical abrasion experience rate was gradually increased by ageing. 4. It seemed the cervical abrasion experience rates in the adults in Honam and Youngnam district to be higher than those in the other districts. 5. • Objectives: The objective of the study was to investigate the related factors of preventive behavior experience toward dental caries and periodontal disease in Korean adolescents. Methods: The study subjects were 72,060 adolescents in 800 schools who completed 2014 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based survey. Dependent variables included general characteristics of the subjects, oral health behavior, and oral disease experience. The experience rate of sealant and scaling showed the prevention behavior of dental caries and periodontal disease. Data were analyzed by IBM SPSS statistics 20.0. Results: The experience rate of sealant accounted for 26.9%. The experience of sealant was related with gender, school, maternal education level, economic status, vigorous physical activity, smoking, usual stress, fruit consumption, milk consumption, soda consumption, snack consumption, tooth brushing, oral health education experience, periodontal bleeding and pain, mucosal disorders, and bad breath. The experience rate of scaling was 22.6%. The experience of scaling was related with gender, school, city division, learning achievement, maternal education level, economic status, residential type, vigorous physical activity, usual stress, fruit consumption, milk consumption, tooth brushing, oral health education experience, periodontal bleeding and pain, mucosal disorders, and bad breath. Conclusions: To expand preventive oral health behavior in the adolescents, it is necessary to support the systematic policy making and monetary establishment in the future.

  • Objectives: This study investigated associations between perceptions of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in workers at hospitals designated to treat COVID-19, as well as the difference in the magnitude of these associations by occupational type and previous Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) experience. Methods: The participants were workers at hospitals designated to treat COVID-19 who completed a questionnaire about their perceptions related to COVID-19, work experience during the previous MERS-CoV outbreak, and symptoms of PTSD ascertained by the PTSD Checklist for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Participants' characteristics were compared using the chi-square test. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to evaluate the associations between perceptions and the prevalence of PTSD, stratified by occupational type and previous MERS-CoV experience. Results: Non-medical personnel showed stronger associations with PTSD than medical personnel according to general fear (odds ratio [OR], 6.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.92 to 23.20), shortages of supplies (OR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.07 to 1.56), and issue-specific fear (OR, 1.29; 95% CI, 1.05 to 1.59). Those with prior MERS-CoV quarantine experience were more prone to PTSD than those without such experience in terms of general fear (OR, 1.70; 95% CI, 1.22 to 2.37), shortages of supplies (OR, 1.24; 95% CI, 1.10 to 1.40), and issue-specific fear (OR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.38). Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, non-medical personnel tended to have higher odds of being categorized as having PTSD. Workers with prior MERS-CoV experience were more susceptible than those without such experience. These findings suggest the need for timely interventions to manage human resources for a sustainable quarantine system.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes and preventive practice of pressure ulcer among hospital nurses and identify factors affecting their preventive practice of pressure ulcer. Methods: Data were collected at April, 2011 in a university hospital in Korea. A total of 140 hospital nurses completed a questionnaire including attitudes and preventive practice of pressure ulcer. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Spearmans rho, and stepwise multiple regression via SPSS/WIN 20.0. Results: Levels of attitudes and preventive practice of pressure ulcer were average 3.65 out of 5 and 2.19 out of 3 respectively. There was significant difference in preventive practice of pressure ulcer by area of practice ($x^2$= 43.35, p<.001), frequency of pressure ulcer care ($x^2$=10.72, p=.013), and experience of wound care education (Ζ=4.73, p=.030). The attitudes toward pressure ulcer prevention were positive correlated to preventive practice among nurses (rho=.190, p=.049). Area of practice, attitude toward pressure ulcer prevention and experience of wound care education explained 48% of variance in preventive practice of pressure ulcer. Conclusion: For improving quality of care, it is important to provide educations to change nurses attitudes toward preventive practice of pressure ulcer.

  • Objectives: To comprehensively examine the relationship between current sleep duration and past suicidal idea or attempt among Korean adolescents. Methods: Data came from the 2009 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey with 75 066 participants (with the participation rate of 97.6%) in 800 middle and high schools. Binary logistic regression was conducted by gender and depressed mood to identify significant factors for suicidal ideation/attempt. The dependent variable was the log odds of suicidal ideation/attempt, while the independent/control variables were sleep duration and other demographic, socio-economic and health-related factors. Results: A negative association between sleep duration and suicidal ideation or attempt was weaker for those with depressed mood than for those without such experience in Korea for Year 2009. The odds ratio of suicidal ideation/attempt regarding less than 4 hours of sleep compared to 6 to 7 hours of sleep, was smaller in a group with depressed mood than in a group without such experience, for example, 1.64 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.29 to 2.08) vs. 2.06 (95% CI, 1.34 to 3.17) for men's suicidal ideation, 2.50 (95% CI, 1.69 to 3.69) vs. 3.89 (95% CI, 1.74 to 8.66) for men's suicidal attempt. A negative association between age (or self-rated health) and suicidal ideation/attempt was also weaker for those with depressed mood than for those without such experience in the nation for the year. Conclusions: There was a negative association between sleep duration and suicidal ideation/attempt in Korea for Year 2009 and this association was weaker for those with depressed mood than for those without such experience. Based on the findings of this study, adolescents' better mental health and longer, more comfortable sleep might help to prevent their suicidal ideation and attempt in Korea.
