  • The purpose of this study is to investigate attitude factor related to hearing conservation and to find attitude affecting the preventive behavior for hearing conservation. The research method used in this study was self-administered questionnaire. Samples of the study were composed of 353 workers exposed noise selected randomly in 10 ship-building manufacturing companies. Authors extracted following 9 factors related hearing conservation from 26 attitude propositions prepared from previous study results and health belief model; (1) general perceived susceptibility, (2) relative perceived susceptibility compared with colleagues, (3) concern to the personal protective devices, (4) perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity, (5) concern to the hearing and noise assessment, (6) concern to the control noise and hearing conservation, (7) group pressure and reason of wearing protective devices, (8) apathy of hearing loss from noise, (9) knowledge about hearing conservation. Attitude factors affecting the preventive health behavior were general perceived susceptibility, concern to the noise control and hearing conservation, and concern to the personal protective devices in the case of wearing personal protective devices. But in the case of avoiding noise exposure as preventive health behavior, perceived severity and concern to the hearing capacity was a significant attitude factor with knowledge about hearing conservation.

  • This study was performed to assist the employer to establish the effective program for hearing conservation of noisy industry. The study subjects were health care managers of an industry and the study industries were devided into two groups(Group I, 37 industries; have the workers diagnosed as noise-induced hearing loss, Group II, 41 industries; not have the workers diagnosed as noise-induced hearing loss) and the question method carried out through the face to face interview. The contents of questionnaire for OSHA's hearing conservation program(HCP) consisted of seven components: 5 questions of monitoring of employee noise exposures(component 1), 6 questions of the institution of engineering, work practice, and administrative controls for excessive noise(component 2), 8 questions of the provision of each overexposed employee with an individually fitted hearing protector with an adequate noise reduction rating(component 3), 14 questions of employee training and education regarding noise hazards and protection measures(component 4), 9 questions of baseline and annual audiometry(component 5), 3 questions of procedures for preventing further occupational hearning loss by an employee whenever such an event has been identified(component 6), and 1 question of recording keeping(component 7), thus total numbers of questions was 46. The numbers of statistially significant difference(p<0.05) between two groups were 2(25.0%) among 8 questions of component 3, 10(71.4%) among 14 questions of component 4, 3(33.3%) among 8 questions of component 5, 2(6.7%) among 3 questions of component 6, and 17(37.0%) among total 46 questions of questionnaire. Above results showed that the level of HCP acceptance in group I was lower than in group II. Thus employer's understanding about HCP should be precede for the effective hearing conservation program of employee and the adequate hearing protector, training and education, baseline and annual audiometry, and procedures for preventing further occupational hearning loss for hearing conservation would be more emphasized.

  • A paulownia wood has been widely used with various advantages as its low weight, permeability, convenient workability and aesthetic patterns for a long time. However, the related empirical researches and simultaneous evaluations of functionality are insufficient compared with acid-free archival boxes for now. In this study, the indoor and outdoor temperature and relative humidity control and heat release rate were evaluated under the controlled and uncontrolled circumstance in 2018. The paulownia wood storage box showed superior control effect of relative humidity than the acid-free archival box in constantly uncontrolled environment. Also, the possibility of the flame diffusion from the surface of the materials was higher for the paulownia materials, and the acid-free archival box showed more dangerous patterns in the early stages of the fire.

  • The metal component of Chinese and Korean traditional gold thread was analyzed nondestructively using P-XRF and classified morphologically. In the nondestructive analysis of 22 Chinese and Korean artifacts, there were 10 gold threads made up of Au in China and 7 in Korea; in addition, there were 4 silver threads made up of Ag in Korea and 1 copper thread made up of Cu in China. In the morphological classification, 7 gilt paper strips were confirmed in China and Korea and 4 wrapped threads were identified in China and Korea. Zn, Sn and Fe (minor components of the threads) were detected. These components were assumed to be transferred from the metal found in burial goods.

  • Preventive conservation is one of most important issues in the field of conservation for paper-records. Many researchers have been studied environmental factors such as effects of humidity, temperature, biological attack and air pollutants. Air pollutants strongly associated with oxidative and hydrolytic degradation of cellulose. It is important to control air pollutants in storage environment to improve stabilities of conservation environment. Four paper samples have been analyzed for their accelerated aging characteristics by air pollutants, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, carbon monoxide. Physical and optical properties and weight molar masses(Mw) showed that interactions between air pollutants and paper sample. Nitrogen dioxide, ozone caused severe damage to cellulose in paper by hydrolytic and oxidative decompositions during aging.

  • In the study, we confirmed morphological traits and calculated the Risk Class of 25 mould species, including Tyromyces palustris, through decomposition rate of substrate for characteristic confirmation of injured microorganisms. We received the injured microorganisms in wood and it was pure cultivated. We observed growth traits and decomposition rate of substrate. Also, it allows the calculation of Risk Class to be worried in the case of growth in wooden cultural properties. As a result, Tyromyces palustris, representative of brown-rot, has the characteristics about decomposition rate of substrate - Cellulose ; more active(+++), Lignin ; more active(+++), Xylan ; more active(+++), Starch ; active(++). We classified Tyromcyes palustris as a first Risk Class and as a second Risk Class about Schizophyllum commune et al(9 species, See table 1. We look forward to offering standard data base for evaluating Risk Class as a matter of applying preventive conservation in wooden cultural properties through our study.

  • After occurrence of Cyanobacteria in 1997, Songsan-ri tombs located in Gonju have been investigated to monitor for biological damage. The room temperature of Tomb No.6 was $18.6{\sim}19.8^{\circ}C$ and the relative humidity was 94.3~99.9%. The temperature of Royal Tomb of King Muryeong was $17.3{\sim}18.53^{\circ}C$ and the relative humidity was 73.2~96.45%. The variation of relative humidity increased after setting up air vents. If the outside temperature increases, dew condensation occurs on the floor and the north side. When conditioning equipment operates, the maximum temperature differences between walls is $2.8^{\circ}C$. Bacteria from the air of the tomb and on the surface of the walls outnumbered fungi. 20 species of fungi including Alternaria sp., Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., and 19 species of bacteria including Pseudomonas sp., Arthrobacter sp., are identified. Microbes in the tombs may damage cultural heritage. The growth possibility of microbes should be estimated because the microbes in the tombs may damage mural painting. The interrelation between microenvironmental condition and biological damage of mural painting should be researched to come up with an long-term conservation method.

  • In order to proffer the fundamental data for the better working environment and the effective establishment of hearing conservation program on workers exposed to industrial noise, author assessed noise levels on the 42 noisy processes among 84 manufactures of 9 industries and measured noise gearing loss by the type of industries on 3,104 workers at these noisy processes from March, 1986 to Februry, 1987. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The averge of A-weight sound level of 23 processes(54.8%) and the avergae of sound level at each octave band of 14 processes(33.3%) exceeded the permissible exposure limits in 8 hours per day. 2. The noise level was the highest in process of cocking of ship building(109.1dBA), and followed by plating of steel rolling(104.3dBA), rivet of manufacture of motor vehicles(102.5dBA), shot of ship building(98.5dBA), aciding(95.7BA) and steel tubing(95.0dBA) of steel rolling, weaving of textiles(95.0dBA). 3. The permissible exposure time for the average of sound level at each octave band was only 30 minutes in the process of cocking of ship building, plating of steel rolling and rivet of manufacture of motor vehicles. 4. As a result of audiometric examination in 3,104 workers, the rate of hearing loss over 50dB at 4,000Hz was 7.3%(227 workers) and the rate of hearing loss over 41dB at 60average method was 2.9%(89 workers). 5. The prevalence of occupational hearing loss in ship building and manufacture of motor vehicle was 5.2% and it was the highest among prevalence of these 9 industries. 6. As a result of this suvery, the noise control and gearing conservation program were required especially in the industry of ship building and manufacture of motor vehicle.

  • The wall painting and Relief type sculpture were a part of an architecture. Therefore they had better to be preserved in situ, differing with other works of arts. But we confronted inevitable cases to transfer them in appropriate place to conserve. And considering their fragility and a potential danger such as a vibration and shock in process of transfer, we had to do the preventive treatments to prohibit unexpected deteriorations. In this paper, I mention the transferring process when Kwon's 'Relief' was faced to be removed by reconstruction program. A preventive treatment and packaging method were referred in priority.
