  • This article deals with an optical image stabilizer which moves an image sensor in the direction of cancelling the vibration caused by hand shaking to prevent a photographed image from blurring. The ball-guide way method adopted as a transfer device of the image sensor is easy to be manufactured because of its simple structure and is suitable to minimize the friction between mechanisms, but has weakness of a chance of physical defect such as groove and rising. In case that the movement of the transfer device equipped with the image sensor is blunted because a ball is stuck in defects of guide way, the performance of the image stabilizer falls down drastically. We propose a method to prevent the transfer device from blunting by applying artificial vibration. At this time, the artificial vibration should be designed under consideration of dynamic characteristics and specifications of the system to be discriminated from the vibration caused by hand shaking.

  • Multiple people using places are being managed to prevent disasters by the special law for safety supervising of multiple people using spots. The KESCO is managing the places through intensification of inspection. Perfect safety is not insured by frequencyinspections because disaster symptoms in electrical facilities include invisible faults. Especially, entertainment spots, such as entertainment bars and karaoke bars, are different from other multiple people using places, and active reaction to prevent electrical fires is impossible. Therefore, special protection plans to prevent electrical disasters are needed. In this paper, equipments of entertainment spots were researched, and their electrical characteristics were analyzed. The function for detecting aloose terminal, which is one of the main causes of electrical fires, was developed.

  • The chairbound, handicapped person often requires a cushion to distribute the supportive forces over the largest area possible in order to reduce the risk of the development of a pressure sore. Pressure sores are areas of damaged skin caused by staying in one position for too long and can cause serious infections, some of which are life-threatening. When sitting upright, the greatest proportion of body weight is centerd over the ischial tuberosities. So, it is important that comfortable seating and largest distribution of pressure to prevent pressure sores. Therefore, the objective of this study was to develop the physical pressure measurement device and orthodontic chair to prevent pressure sores.

  • In this study, we developed an active controlled ankle-foot orthosis(AAFO) which can control the dorsiflexion/plantarflexion of the ankle joint during gait to prevent foot drop and toe drag for paralysis patients. To prevent dropping foot after heel strike, ankle joint was actively controlled to minimize forefoot collision with the ground. It was also controlled to provide toe clearance and to help push-off during late stance. The 3D gait analysis was performed on two healthy subjects equipped with the developed AAFO to compare with the normal gait and the conventional AFO gait. In the developed AAFO gait, differently from the conventional AFO gait, significant push-off was observed during pre-swing and the maximum flexion moment during pre-swing phase was similar to that of normal gait. A remarkable dorsiflexion also occurred during initial swing. These results indicated that the developed AAFO could have certain clinical benefits to prevent foot drop for paralysis patients, compared to conventional AFOs.

  • Main source of URN(Underwater Radiated Noise) which is related to the ship's survivability is divided into two groups. Cavitation is main source of URN when the speed of ship is upper than CIS(Cavitation Inception Speed). But when the speed of ship is lower than CIS, main source of URN is structure-borne noise on the hull which is originated from propulsion system, pump system or transmitted vibration of pipe system. In this paper, to reduce the vibration of discharge pipe and valve system, back flow prevent globe valve and new rubber mount are applied to the ship. As the result of applying new valve and mount, the vibration is reduced drastically.

  • Many children have died (Heat stroke deaths) in the U.S. after being left alone in cars during hot weather, especially summer season. According to related report, more than 800 children have died of heat stroke from being trapped in a hot car since 1998. The regulation party, government has started to make not only technical regulation to prevent tragedy but also legislate to punish. However the 75% of accident has occurred unintended by their parents. So punishment is not the best solution for this case. So in this study, we analyze the trend of regulation and technology to save occupant who remained back seat. And finally we propose a countermeasure to prevent heat stroke deaths.

  • In first experiment series, this paper is devoted for examining progress of reinforcement corrosion due to carbonation in concrete and to quantify uncarbonation depth to protect reinforcement from corroding. The tolerance of cover depth should be considered in order to prevent carbonation-induced corrosion. From the relationship between the weight loss of reinforcement and corrosion current density for a given time, therefore, the tolerance of cover depth to prevent carbonation-induced corrosion is computed. It is observed that corrosion occurs when the distance between carbonation front and reinforcement surface (uncarbonated depth) is smaller than 5 mm.As a secondary purpose of this study, it is investigated to examine the interaction between carbonation and chloride penetration and their effects on concrete. This was examined experimentally under various boundary conditions. For concrete under the double condition, the risk of deterioration due to carbonation was not severe. However, it was found that the carbonation of concrete could significantly accelerate chloride penetration. As a result, chloride penetration in combination with carbonation is a serious cause of deterioration of concrete.

  • Almost all companies have paid much attention to the safety management ranging from maintenance to operation even at the stage of designing in order to prevent accidents, but fatal accidents continue to increase throughout the world. In particular, it is essential to systematically prevent such fatal accidents as fire, explosion or leakage of toxic gas at factories in order to not only protect the workers and neighbors but also prevent economic losses and environmental pollution. In addition, HRA may be used to detect the human errors which may cause accidents or trace back to any mistake on the part of workers. Usually, HRA technique is used in association with other risk assessment techniques. Moreover, it can serve to enumerate the human errors which may occur during operation or down-time or correct the existing system to reduce the mistakes. This work focuses on the coincidence of human error and mechanical failure for management of human error, and on some important performance shaping factors to propose a method for improving safety effectively of the process industries.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy to prevent relapse of substance abuse. A total of 8 substance abusing adult clients participated in the program. All the clients were charged with substance use at the time of implementing the program. Two master's level social workers operated the program, which was implemented in a probation office in Seoul. This study included Beliefs about substance use, abstinence self-efficacy, and coping skills as dependent variables in order to investigate the effectiveness. Cognitive-behavioral therapy emphasizes the enhancement of these cognitive and behavioral skills to prevent relapse of substance use. Research hypotheses were partially supported. That is, clients participated in the program had more negative attitude toward substance use and had more effective problem-focused coping skills. Although a research hypothesis of the enhancement of clients' self efficacy was not supported, their mean scores at the final post test were lower than scores at pretest. This study suggests that more studies be needed to in order to confirm the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy with substance abusing clients.

  • This study is about dissemination of moxa education using voucher service. Moxa is one of the traditional medicines of Oriental medicine. Moxa is the only medicine in which is characterized by self-management of preventive medicine. Moxa whixh is prescribed in advance when it is healthy can prevent Alzheimer's dementia and cancers. Moxa activates neurotransmitter dopamine system and cerebral vasoconstrictor substance serotonin system, which actively helps to prevent and cure Alzheimer's dementia. Also moxa produces HSP (heat shock protein), which can prevent and treat cancers. Moxa, which costs little, is a strongly effective medicine. Therefore, this study emphasizes the necessity of moxa education and suggests a self-care training program for the reduction of medical expenses. As a methodology for this, moxa education can be done by using voucher service. At the same time, it proposes the establishment of a moxa instructor.
