Extraction of Hemicellulosic Sugar and Acetic Acid from Different Wood Species with Pressurized Dilute Acid Pretreatment

  • Extraction is a necessary element in the bioconversion of lignocellulosics to fuels and chemicals. Although various forms of chemical pretreatment of cellulosic materials have been proposed, their effectiveness varies depending on the treatment conditions and substrate. In this study, mixed hardwood (MH) and loblolly pine (LP) were pretreated with dilute acid in a 100 mL accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) at the predetermined optimal conditions: temperature: $170^{\circ}C$, acid concentration: 0.5% (w/v), and reaction time: 2~64 min. This method was highly effective for extracting the hemicellulose fraction. Total xmg (defined as the sum of xylose, mannose, and galactose) can be extracted from milled MH and LP through pressurized dilute acid treatment in maximum yields of 12.6 g/L and 15.3 g/L, respectively, representing 60.5% and 70.4% of the maximum possible yields, respectively. The crystallinity index increased upon pretreatment, reflecting the removal of the amorphous portion of biomass. The crystalline structure of the cellulose in the biomass, however, was not changed by the ASE extraction process.

  • Hydrogen release during severe accidents poses a serious threat to containment integrity. Mitigating procedures are necessary to prevent global or local explosions, especially in large steel shell containments. The management of hydrogen safety and prevention of over-pressurization could be implemented through a hydrogen reduction system and spray system. During the course of the hypothetical large break loss-of-coolant accident in a nuclear power plant, hydrogen is generated by a reaction between steam and the fuel-cladding inside the reactor pressure vessel and also core concrete interaction after ejection of melt into the cavity. The MELCOR 1.8.6 was used to assess core degradation and containment behavior during the large break loss-of-coolant accident without the actuation of the safety injection system except for accumulators in Beznau nuclear power plant. Also, hydrogen distribution in containment and performance of hydrogen reduction system were investigated.

  • 가압 조건하에서의 석탄가스화 특성을 규명하기위해 , 온도 압력 , 산소/석탄비, 수증기/석탄비 등을 변화시켜가며 로토탄(sub A)에 대하여 PDTF(Pressuized drop tube furnace)실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과, 상압 조건에서보다 가압조건에서의 가스화가 탄소전환율과 냉가스효율의 측면에서 더 유리한 것으로 측정되었다. 최대의 냉가스효율을 보이는 산소/석탄비의 증가가 냉가스효율의 증가를 가져왔다. 압력이 증가할수록 열분해에 의한 탄소전환의 비중은 감소하고 대신 기고반응에 의한 탄소전환의 비중이 증가하였다.

  • This paper has been presented the hydrodynamic effect by the journal speed, eccentricity and source positions in order to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and damping coefficient. Choosing the two row source position of air bearing is different from existed investigations in the side of pressure distribution of air film because of the high speed of journal and the wedge effects by the eccentricity. These optimal chooses of the two row source positions enable us to improve the performance of the film reaction force and loading force as making the high speed spindle. In this paper, The pressure behavior in theory of air film according to the eccentricity of journal and the source positions analyzed. The results of investigated characteristics may be applied to precision devices like ultra-precision grinding machine and ultra high speed milling.

Feasibility Study of Employing a Catalytic Membrane Reactor for a Pressurized CO2 and Purified H2 Production in a Water Gas Shift Reaction

  • 이 논문은 촉매막반응기(catalytic membrane reactor)에서의 중요한 두 요소인 수소선택도와 수소투과량 및 Ar sweep 유량과 압력이 수성가스전이반응의 성능에 미치는 영향에 대하여 1차원 반응기모델과 반응속도식에 근거한 연구결과를 나타내고 있다. 연소전 이산화탄소 포집의 한 방법으로서, 촉매막반응기를 사용하여 원통부분에서는 고압/고농도의 이산화탄소를 관부분에서는 고순도의 수소를 동시에 얻을 수 있는지에 대한 가능성을 검토하였다. 또한, 고농도의 이산화탄소와 고순도의 수소를 동시에 얻기 위해 필요한 수소투과량, 수소선택도, Ar sweep 유량 및 압력에 대한 지침을 나타내었다. 그 결과 $1{\times}10^{-8}molm^{-2}s^{-1}Pa^{-1}$의 수소투과량과 10000의 수소선택도를 가진 막을 장착한 촉매막반응기에서는 8 atm의 압력과 $6.7{\times}10^{-4}mols^{-1}$의 Ar sweep 유량의 조건하에서 약 90%의 농도를 가진 이산화탄소와 100%의 순도를 가진 수소가 동시에 얻어짐이 밝혀졌다.

  • Various researches are being conducted to reduce greenhouse gases generated by the consumption of traditional energy resources. This study was conducted to numerically analyze the combustion characteristics and N-S reaction behavior with respect to the H2 content of syngas composed of CO and H2 in pressurized air combustion. A non-premixed opposed flow flame model was applied a modified detailed mechanism with S-chemistry was developed based on GRI 3.0 to simulate the syngas reaction. As the hydrogen content increased, the flame thickness increased due to the fast reactivity of hydrogen. In the rich region, NO and SO2 were reduced by reaction with H radical and H bonding of NO was suppressed by the formation of HOSO.

기능성 미립자의 표면개질방법에 의한 위생지 제조 (Making Hygiene Paper by Surface Modification Method of the Functional Particle)

  • In order to give pulp surfaces anti-bacterial functionality and photo-catalytic deodorant ability, functional pulps was made using a surface modification method with Ag nano-colloidal solution and $TiO_2$ filler. Hygiene paper was made with the specially modified pulp, and anti-bacterial and deodorant tests were carried out. The Ag nano-colloidal solution was coated on the surface of the pulp using the high pressurized gas phase squirt through the spray nozzle mounted on the hybridization system. The surface modified functional pulp was hybridized with the optimum ratio of $TiO_2$(fine particle) to pulp(core particle) under the condition of $6,000{\sim}10,000$ rpm for $3{\sim}7$ minutes in the system. The anti-bacterial functionality of the hygiene paper was confirmed by the halo test in which the formation of the clear zone around the hygiene paper sample was observed. The inhibition growth test using MIC bioscreen C showed the inhibition growth effect of the bacteria as the reaction time was increased. The photo-catalytic effect measurement of the $TiO_2$ for 4 hours of the reaction showed $50{\sim}60%$ of decomposition rate, reaching over 60% for 5 hours of the reaction.

  • A stainless steel autoclave reactor, which is the property of Pacific Northwest Laboratories(PNL) and located in PNL, was acted for pyrolysis and gasification of sawdust, ricestraw, and ricehusk. The initial reaction temperature of this reactor was 300$^{\circ}C$, and up to 500$^{\circ}C$ to complete pyrolysis and gasification reaction. The maximum exerted pressure on this reactor was 800 psig. In order to examine the effect of catalyst on reaction temperature, $K_2CO_3$, and nickel/alkali carbonate catalyst mixture were also used. The experimental results obtained with this reactor indicated that good yields of methane-rich gas(exceeding 40% methane) can be produced. The product gas mixtures were also identified to be CO. $CO_2$, $C_2H_4$, and $CH_3CHO$ etc. by Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometer.

석탄 비산회로부터 수열법에 의한 제올라이트 4A의 합성시 온도와 압력의 영향 (The Effects of Temperature and Pressure on Synthesis of Zeolite 4A from Coal Fly Ash by Hydrothermal Reaction)

  • This study was carried out to synthesis the zeolite using the bituminous coal fly ash emitted from power plant that occurs several environmental problems. In spite of fly ash has contained high content of $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$, it disposed mainly landfill. If the effective methods to recover the $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$ were developed, the fly ash could be utilized valuable raw materials. In this study, fly ash was used as raw material to synthesize the zeolite by pressurized hydrothermal reaction. Also, experimental parameters included temperature($70{\sim}110^{\circ}C$, and pressure($140{\sim}200$ psi) of crystallization were investigated. The more crystallization pressure was increased, the more Zeolite 4A was synthesized at 70 and $90^{\circ}C$. Zeolite 4A of metastable phase tend to be transformed into sodalite of stable phase at $110^{\circ}C$.
