A system analysis program has been developed for a gas generator cycle liquid rocket engine of 30 ton class. Numerical models have been proposed for a combustor, a turbopump, a gas generator and pressure drop through a regenerative cooling system. Numerical algorithm has been validated by comparing with the published data of MC-1. The major source of error is not the numerical algorithm but the imperfect performance models of subsystems. So the precision of the program can be improved by revising the performance models using experimental data. The sea level specific impulse and vacuum specific impulse have been demonstrated for a 30 ton class gas generator engine. The optimal condition of combustor pressure and mixture ratio for specific impulse which is a typical characteristic of a gas generator cycle engine has been illustrated.

Most merchant ships are supplied with the only essential fresh water from a port for economical cargo transportation and the reduction of a nevigation expense. And the deficient fresh water for a voyage is produced by fresh water generator with the various exhaust energy generated in the engine room on a voyage. At present, an evaporation type fresh water generator are extensively used on ship because the operating cost of it is lower than that of a reverse osmosis pressure type. This study introduce a development results on the large evaporation type fresh water generator enable to be used for large merchant ships. It is accomplished the performance test using the developed large fresh water generator.
The fretting-fatigue by leaking is one of the significant degradation in steam generator tubes. In this study, the burst pressure of inclined damaged steam generator tubes were obtained from three criterions by using the finite element method. The analysis results were also compared with the experiment data from published references and they showed a good agreement with the experiment data.
As the competition in the manufacturing market for small and medium sized generators is intensifying, there is increasing pressure to reduce production cost. Manufacturing the generator stator windings with global vacuum pressure impregnation (GVPI) is a very effective way to reduce costs. However, the stator winding has a fatal disadvantage in that the insulation wears due to vibration in the slot. KEPRI (KEPCO Research Institute) conducted insulation diagnosis for three generators in KOMIPO (Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd.) which were manufactured by GVPI and operated for about 17 years. Insulation diagnosis showed that deterioration of insulation has progressed significantly. Therefore, KEPRI recommended replacing the stator windings of all three generators. In this paper, the insulation properties of the generator stator winding with global GVPI are described by comparing and analyzing the insulation diagnosis results and visual inspection for stator windings.
The heat transfer function or thermal performance is the most important function of the steam generator component in nuclear power plants. The declining of thermal performance, fouling does not affect the electric power of the nuclear power plant within a certain fouling level, but it affects the output when goes beyond the governor valve wide open of the turbine. The VWO steam pressure can be predicted through the thermal performance evaluation of steam generators in the nuclear power plant. In consideration of the fouling characteristics of the steam generator, methods of the thermal performance evaluation and fouling cases are reviewed, and also the critical VWO value is estimated through the actual thermal performance evaluation. It is necessary to apply the VWO theory based on the thermal performance of the steam generators.
Generally the rupture of steam generator tubes proceeds from significant plastic deformation before failure. In this study, the burst pressures of damaged steam generator tubes were calculated from the plastic instability analysis with the finite element method. Two wear types, flat and circumferential types were considered. An equation for the burst pressure was proposed by using the strength reduction factor and the Svensson equation. The analysis results were compared with the experiment data from published references and they showed a good agreement with the experiment data.
An experiment was performed for the OECD/NEA ROSA-2 Project with the large-scale test facility (LSTF), which simulated a steam generator tube rupture (SGTR) accident due to a double-ended guillotine break of one of steam generator (SG) U-tubes with operator recovery actions in a pressurized water reactor. The relief valve of broken SG opened three times after the start of intact SG secondary-side depressurization as the recovery action. Multi-dimensional phenomena specific to the SGTR accident appeared such as significant thermal stratification in a cold leg in broken loop especially during the operation of high-pressure injection (HPI) system. The RELAP5/MOD3.3 code overpredicted the broken SG secondary-side pressure after the start of the intact SG secondary-side depressurization, and failed to calculate the cold leg fluid temperature in broken loop. The combination of the number of the ruptured SG tubes and the HPI system operation difference was found to significantly affect the primary and SG secondary-side pressures through sensitivity analyses with the RELAP5 code.
Steam generator is one of the main equipments that affect safety and long term operation in nuclear power plants. Fluid flows inside and outside of the steam generator tubes and induces vibration. To prevent the vibration the tubes are supported by AVB (anti vibration bar). When the steam generator tube contact to AVB, it is damaged by the accumulation of wear and corrosion. Therefore studies are required to determine the effects of the gap between the steam generator tube and AVB. In order to obtain the stress and the displacement distributions of the steam generator tube, three dimensional finite element analyses were performed by using the commercial program ANSYS. Using the calculated the stress and the displacement distributions, the static residual strength of the steam generator tube can be evaluated. The results show that the stress and displacement of the steam generator tube increase significantly compared with the results from a zero-gap model.
