  • The porpose in this study is to simulate te force required in the measurement of the performance of the equipments or testipieces. For the simulation of the required force, the difference in eachchamber pressure in the hydraulic cylinder was controlled with Variable Structure Control (VSC) theory. Also, nonlinear Variable Structure Observer (VSO) was designed to estimate the derivative of the load pressure which is necessary to determine the sliding surface in VSC theory. In this paper, the digital computer simulation and experiments were executed.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of joint mobilization on foot pressure, ankle moment, and vertical ground reaction force in subjects with ankle instability. Method: Twenty male subjects (age, $25.38{\pm}3.62yr$; height, $170.92{\pm}5.41cm$; weight, $60.74{\pm}9.63kg$; body mass index (BMI), $19.20{\pm}1.67kg/m^2$) participated and underwent ankle joint mobilization. Weight-bearing distribution, ankle dorsi/plantar flexion moment, and vertical ground reaction force were measured using a GPS 400 and a VICON Motion System (Oxford, UK), and subsequently analyzed. SPSS 20.0 for Windows was used for data processing and paired t-tests were used to compare pre- and post-mobilization measurements. The significance level was set at ${\alpha}$ = .05. Results: The results indicated changes in weight-bearing, ankle dorsi/plantar flexion moment, and vertical ground reaction force. The findings showed changes in weight-bearing distribution on the left (pre $29.51{\pm}6.31kg$, post $29.57{\pm}5.02kg$) and right foot (pre $32.40{\pm}6.30kg$, post $31.18{\pm}5.47kg$). There were significant differences in dorsi/plantar flexion moment (p < .01), and there were significant increases in vertical ground reaction forces at initial stance (Fz1) and terminal stance (Fz2, p < .05). Additionally, there was a significant reduction in vertical ground reaction force at midstance (Fz2, p < .001). Conclusion: Joint mobilization appears to alter weight-bearing distribution in subjects with ankle instability, with resultant improvements in stability.

  • The principle of self clamping friction clutch is presented in this paper and the transmitted torque capacity is also calculated. In order to enlarge the friction force, a part of rotating force of driving side is converted to normal force of friction materials by clamping arm. The increased normal force of friction materials assures the large friction force and the transmitted torque capacity of clutch becomes large. The self clamping friction clutch is adopted in the tube type air pressure clutch and the condition of stability is investigated. It is proven that the inclined angle of clamping arm and the friction factor of friction materials are the essential elements in stability and torque capacity of self clamping friction clutch. The transmitted torque capacity of self clamping friction clutch is compared with air pressure clutch. The normal force of friction lining is magnified by 1/(1-k) and the transmitted torque capacity is also magnified with same proportion comparing with air pressure clutch. The larger the friction factor of friction lining, the larger the magnification factor. The longer the clamping arm, the smaller the magnification factor. It must be also noted that the value of k=${\mu}Y/X$ is the criterion of stability. If the value of k=${\mu}Y/X$ is greater than or equal to 1, the self clamping friction clutch is unstable and it can not be used as clutch.

  • A copper-tungsten sintered alloy(Cu-W) has been friction welded to a tough pitch copper in order to investigate the effect of friction pressure on bonding strength and a charicteristic of fracture. The tensile strength of the friction welded joint was increased up to 90% of the Cu base metal under the condition of friction time 1.2 sec, friction pressure 4.5kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ and upset pressure 10kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$. From the results of fracture surface analysis, the increase of friction pressure could remarkably decrease the force and the time to be normally acted on weld interface. The W particles which were included in the plastic zone of Cu side could induce fracture adjacent to the weld interface because their existance in Cu induces a decrease in available section area and an increase in notch effect. Therefore, the tensile strength was decreased at high friction pressure (6kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$) because the destruction of W was increased by an increase in mechanical force and crack was formed at weld interface.

  • In this study, two factors are simultaneously considered for assessing tunnel face stability: one is the effective stress acting on the tunnel face calculated by upper bound solution; and the other is the seepage force calculated by numerical analysis under the condition of steady-state groundwater flow. The seepage forces calculated by numerical analysis are compared with the results of a model test. From the results of derivations of the upper bound solution with the consideration of seepage forces acting on the tunnel face, it could be found that the minimum support pressure for the face stability is equal to the sum of effective support pressure and seepage pressure acting on the tunnel face. Also it could be found that the average seepage pressure acting on the tunnel face is proportional to the hydrostatic pressure at the same elevation and the magnitude is about 22% of the hydrostatic pressure for the drainage type tunnel and about 28% for the water-proof type tunnel. The model tests performed with a tunnel model had a similar trend with the seepage pressure calculated by numerical analysis. From the model tests it could be also found that the collapse at the tunnel face occurs suddenly and leads to unlimited displacement.

  • The present study is a fundamental approach to develop the measuring technology for minute fluctuating pressures on the three-dimensional blade surfaces of the fan which rotates with an arbitrary rotation-axis direction. In this situation, we are required to correct the centrifugal-force effect, the gravitational-force effect and the other leading-error effects for accurate measurements of the minute pressures. The working fluid is air. A pressure transducer rotating with an arbitrary attitude is closely sealed by a twofold shroud system. The rotational motion with an arbitrary attitude is produced by fixing the pressure transducer to the cantilever which is connected to a motor-driven disc of 500mm in diameter and 5mm in thickness. As a result, we have quantitatively determined main governing effects upon the non-effective component of the pressure-transducer signal.

  • An analytical procedure to determine a proper profile of the spring rail that generates intended contact pressure distribution in the flat wiper blade is introduced. The flat wiper blade is one piece blade and subjected to pressing force at a center point. In this type of blade, contact pressure distribution in the tip of rubber strip is determined by the pressing force, the initial profile of the blade before contact and bending stiffness of the blade. Experimentally obtained bending stiffness of the blade assembly is almost identical to that of the spring rail. Principle of reciprocity has been used to define the initial profile of spring rail from the deformed profile that is assumed to be identical to the windshield glass profile. The procedure has been verified experimentally by measuring the contact pressure of the blade assembled with the spring rail designed by the procedure proposed here. Measured contact pressure distributions of the blades show good agreements with intended distributions over the entire blade span. Consequently, it can be concluded that proposed procedure has relatively good accuracy in developing the spring rail for flat blade having a specific contact pressure distribution.

  • Scholars have proposed wafer-level bonding and three-dimensional (3D) stacked integrated circuit (IC) and have investigated Cu-Cu bonding to overcome the limitation of Moore's law. However, information about quantitative Cu-Cu direct-bonding conditions, such as temperature, pressure, and interfacial adhesion energy, is scant. This study determines the optimal temperature and pressure for Cu-Cu bonding by varying the bonding temperature to 100, 150, 200, 250, and 350 ℃ and pressure to 2,303 and 3,087 N/cm2. Various conditions and methods for surface treatment were performed to prevent oxidation of the surface of the sample and remove organic compounds in Cu direct bonding as variables of temperature and pressure. EDX experiments were conducted to confirm chemical information on the bonding characteristics between the substrate and Cu to confirm the bonding mechanism between the substrate and Cu. In addition, after the combination with the change of temperature and pressure variables, UTM measurement was performed to investigate the bond force between the substrate and Cu, and it was confirmed that the bond force increased proportionally as the temperature and pressure increased.
