An interscale transport of the turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and Reynolds shear stress (RSS) is examined in an adverse pressure gradient (APG) turbulent boundary layer (TBL). The direct numerical simulation data of an APG TBL at Reτ = 834 and β = 1.45 is employed. The TKE and RSS transport equations are divided into large and small scales, leading to the introduction of interscale transport. The TKE mainly transfers from large scales to small ones in the outer region, and vice versa for the RSS. An interscale transport of TKE and inverse interscale transport of RSS are amplified by APG, and the latter results in the increase in large scales of TKE production. Some of outer large scales of enhanced TKE transfer to small scales and then dissipate by viscosity, and the remains dissipate turbulent-non-turbulent interfaces by turbulent transport.

Since conventional computer program is workable only with velocity boundary condition, in practical fluid passage such as clean room which usually have wide inlets and outlets, it is not easy to measure velocity itself because of its vector property. Furthermore a certain assumption of velocity at boundaries may lead to physically unreasonable results. From this motivation, we have developed a computer program to predict whole flow field imposed on pressure-based boundary condition which can be measured by relatively simple method. The only additional velocity boundary condition that should be imposed on to make the problem unique, are no slip condition at all walls and zero cross stream velocity at inlet. The result of present study was compared with that by Bernoulli equation being used practically. They were coincident well each other within 5%, therefore the validity of the present method is proved. In the present work, the flow field in a clean room subject to pressure-based boundary conditions at an inlet and two exits was predicted numerically. The pressure difference between the inlet and the left exit which keeps relatively low pressure among two exits is fixed as 150[Pa] and the pressure at the right exit is varied from zero to 150[Pa] by the increment of 25[Pa]. For each cases the flow characteristics in the clean room, the velocity profile at the inlet, and the flow rate through the two exits was predicted. The flow rate through the right exit imposed on relatively higher pressure than the left exit decreased linearly according to the increase of pressure of the right exit. When the pressure of the right exit is increased enough to cause back flow at the exit, the flow rate is rapidly decreased.

The Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method has proved to have great potentials in dealing with the wave-structure interactions. Compared with the Weakly Compressible SPH (WCSPH) method, the ISPH approach solves the pressure by using the pressure Poisson equation rather than the equation of state. This could provide a more stable and accurate pressure field that is important in the study of wave-structure interactions. This paper improves the solid boundary treatment of ISPH by using a high accuracy Simplified Finite Difference Interpolation (SFDI) scheme for the 2D wave-structure coupling problems, especially for free-moving structure. The proposed method is referred as the ISPH_BS. The model improvement is demonstrated by the documented benchmark tests and laboratory experiment covering various wave-structure interaction applications.

In order to determine the design parameters and processing conditions in injection molding, it is very important to establish the theoretical model with scientific base. In this study, a two dimensional model has been developed for the purpose and flow simulations of filling process are carried out. The moving boundary transient flow problem along the flat plane is solved efficiently by the Iterative Boundary Pressure Reflection Method which rearranges the impinged melt front along the physical boundary in scientific manner. The two dimensional modeling of filling process is applied to two examples : a three dimensional cover with two screw holes and a two-gated flat cavity with unbalanced runners. The numerical results show good agreement with experimental short shots, especially for the weldline locations and the pressure traces at various locations. They also provide the temperature, clamp force, and velocity field in the mold at different times during filling of cavity.

This paper proposes a method to calculate the characteristics of a coupled hydrodynamic journal and thrust bearing of a HDD spindle motor. The governing equations for the journal and thrust bearings are the two dimensional Reynolds equations in $\theta z$ and $ r\theta$ planes, respectively. Finite element method is appropriately applied to analyze the coupled journal and thrust bearing by satisfying the continuity of mass and pressure at the interface between the journal and thrust bearings. The pressure in a coupled bearing is calculated by applying the Reynolds boundary condition and compared with that by using the Half-Sommerfeld boundary condition. The static characteristics are obtained by integrating the pressure along the fluid film. The flying height of spindle motor is measured to verify the proposed analytical result. This research shows that the proposed method can describe HDB in a HDD system more accurately and realistically than the separate analysis of a journal or thrust bearing.
A vorticity-based method for the numerical solution of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The governing equations for vorticity, velocity and pressure variables are expressed in an integro-differential form. The global coupling between the vorticity and the pressure boundary conditions is fully considered in an iterative procedure when numerical schemes are employed. The finite volume method of the second order TVD scheme is implemented to integrate the vorticity transport equation with the dynamic vorticity boundary condition. The velocity field is obtained by using the Biot-Savart integral. The Green's scalar identity is used to solve the total pressure in an integral approach similar to the surface panel methods which have been well established for potential flow analysis. The present formulation is validated by comparison with data from the literature for the two-dimensional cavity flow driven by shear in a square cavity. We take two types of the cavity now: (ⅰ) driven by non-uniform shear on top lid and body forces for which the exact solution exists, and (ⅱ) driven only by uniform shear (of the classical type).
The present study deals with two dimensional electro-elastic analysis of a functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) cylinder under internal pressure. Energy method and first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) are employed for this purpose. All mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson ratio are considered as a power function along the radial direction. The cylinder is subjected to uniform internal pressure. By supposing two dimensional displacement and electric potential fields along the radial and axial direction, the governing differential equations can be derived in terms of unknown electrical and mechanical functions. Homogeneous solution can be obtained by imposing the appropriate mechanical and electrical boundary conditions. This proposed solution has capability to solve the cylinder structure with arbitrary boundary conditions. The previous solutions have been proposed for the problem with simple boundary conditions (simply supported cylinder) by using the routine functions such as trigonometric functions. The axial distribution of the axial displacement, radial displacement and electric potential of the cylinder can be presented as the important results of this paper for various non homogeneous indexes. This paper evaluates the effect of a local support on the distribution of mechanical and electrical components. This investigation indicates that a support has important influence on the distribution of mechanical and electrical components rather than a cylinder with ignoring the effect of the supports. Obtained results using present method at regions that are adequate far from two ends of the cylinder can be compared with previous results (plane elasticity and one dimensional first order shear deformation theories).
The numerical analysis of fluid flow in the tube cleaning system is examined. The working flow used in this study is seawater, and the temperature change is not considered as the temperature change of seawater in the tube cleaning system is negligible. Also, the analysis is performed under the assumption of steady state. The screens of complicated morphologies are simplified for the analysis, and only one fourth of the tube cleaning system is modeled as the system has a symmetrical shape. The velocity inlet boundary condition is employed for the seawater inlet, whereas the outflow boundary condition is employed for two seawater outlets. In applying the outflow boundary condition for the system with more than two outlets, the flow rate can be arbitrarily assigned. In the analysis, the finite-volume method based numerical analysis tool, the pressure based solver, the standard k-$\varepsilon$ model are utilized, and the under relaxation factor is modified appropriately. From the analysis, the distribution of velocity vectors, pressure and path lines are obtained, and the physical characteristics of fluid flow in the tube cleaning system is well-examined.

Structural vibration induced by excitation forces under turbulent boundary layer is investigated in terms of the numerical analysis in this paper. Since the responses of structures excited by the wall pressure fluctuation(WPF) are described by the power spectral density functions, they are calculated and reviewed theoretically for finite and infinite length beams. For the use of numerical approaches, the WPF needs to be discretized but conventional finite element method is not much effective for that purpose because the WPF lose the spatial correlation characteristics. As an alternative numerical technique for WPF modelling, a wavenumber domain finite element approach, called waveguide finite element method, is examined here for infinite length beams. From the comparison between the numerical and theoretical results, it was confirmed that the WFE method can effectively and easily cope with the excitation from WPF and hence the suitable approach.
