Although many defects in PZR heater sleeve have been reported continually from operating experiences in oversea nuclear power plant, utilities get into difficulties in finding appropriate methods for diagnostics of the components due to the limited access or high radiation problems. Recently, as an alternative, diagnostics using Guided Wave Testing(GWT) are proposed and the attention of the methods has been growing gradually because of their long range inspection capability. This study is to investigate the effectiveness of GWT to detect PWSCC in welding points of PZR heater sleeve. Moreover, mode sensitivity analysis of GWT and optimal frequency for the diagnostics of PWSCC are presented by testing the mock-ups specimens that contain artificial flaws.
Ultrasonic wave generation and propagation were modeled to simulate an ultrasonic test. A ray model was used for the modeling. Actual sound pressure distribution of the incident wave from an angle probe was analyzed using an ultrasonic visualization method to incorporate the actual sound pressure distribution in the model. In this method, the sound pressure was expressed by the density of rays and the reflection coefficient of ultrasonic beams. Reflection and mode conversion of rays were computed by the Snells law. Simulation programs for the problem of ultrasonic testing of a butt joint are built using this ray modeling. Simulation results for ultrasonic wave scattering from a defect and A-scan display in ultrasonic testing agreed with the actual experiment results.
Nonlinear characteristics of air pressure variation and wave transformation of a fixed air-chamber structure are discussed theoretically and experimentally. Two analytical methods(method I and II) based on the perturbation method and Green's formula are employed in order to evaluate nonlinearities by the submerged and semi-submerged air-chamber structure. Moreover, an air compression model is newly developed to estimate the dynamic air pressure in the air-chamber inside the structure, assuming the Boyle-Charles's law with adiabatic process in the air pressure variation. Theoretical values of the method I considering evanescent mode waves at an fictious boundary, are in good agreement with those of method II employing the fictious boundary which is not affected by evanescent mode waves. Both theoretical values are shown to agree well with experimental values.
The excellent c-axis oriented zinc oxide thin films were prepared by the RF magnetron sputtering method on glass substrates. Optimum fabrication conditions of the ZnO films were such that RF power, substrate temperature, and gas pressure of mixture Ar(50%):$O_{2}$(50%) were 150 W, $200^{\circ}C$, and 5 mTorr, respectively. In these conditions, the deposition rate was $310\;{\AA}/min$, and the resistivity of the film was $1{\times}10^6\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. The ZnO film also showed high c-axis orientation and crystalinity according to XRD pattern and SEM photograph. A fabricated interdigital transducer generated 1st mode surface acoustic wave at 46.6 MHz and 2nd mode surface acoustic wave at 52.5 MHz. At the 1st mode, the phase velocity of surface acoustic wave and the electromechanical coupling coefficient were 2795 m/sec and 0.031 %, respectivly. At the 2nd mode, they were 3149 m/sec and 0.019 %. respectivly.

The structural modes driven by the low wave-number components of smooth elastic wall pressure provide a relatively weak coupling between the flow and the wall motion. If the elastic thin plate has any resonant mode whose wave-number of resonance coincides with $\omega$/U$\sub$c/, the power will be transmitted to those modes of vibration by the flows. We examine the problem in which the elastic thin plate is subject to pressure fluctuations under turbulent boundary layer. Measurements are presented of the frequency spectra of the near- and far-field pressures and radiated sound contributed by the various wave modes of the thin elastic plate. Dispersion equation for wave motions of elastic plate is used to investigate the effect of bending waves of relatively low wave number on radiated sound. The low wave-number motion of elastic plate is observed to have much less influence on the low-frequency energy of wall pressure fluctuations than that of the rediated sound. High amplitude events of the wall pressure are observed to weakly couple with high-frequency energy of radiated sound for case of low tension applied to the plate. The sound source localization is applied to the measurement of radiated sound by using acoustic mirror system.

The operation principle of a traveling wave rotary type ultrasonic motor can be successfully applied to the fluidic transfer mechanism of the micro-pump. This paper proposes an innovative valveless micro-pump type that uses an extensional vibration mode of a traveling wave as a volume transportation means. The proposed pump consists of coaxial cylindrical shells that join the piezoelectric ceramic ring and metal body, respectively. In order to confirm the actuation mechanism of the proposed pump model, a numerical simulation analysis was implemented. In accordance with the variations in the exciting wave mode and pump body dimension, we analyzed the vibration displacement characteristics of the proposed model, determined the optimal design condition, fabricated the prototype pump from the analysis results and evaluated its performance. The maximum flow rate was approximately $595\;{\mu}L/min$ and the highest back pressure was 0.88 kPa at an input voltage of $130\;V_{rms}$. We confirmed that the peristaltic motion of the piezoelectric actuator was effectively applied to the fluid transfer mechanism of the valveless type micro pump throughout this research.

In the arctic offshore regions, massive offshore gravity platforms are recommended to be construced because of severe environments. In such structures which is so large that its characteristic length is of the order of the wave length, wave-structure interaction problem has been solved using linear diffraction theory. Structural analysis of the large scale offshore structures requires wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. In this study, existing computer program which calculates the total wave force acting on axisymmetric bodies has been modified to calculate wave force distribution along depth and wave pressure distribution on the body surface. Numerical results of pressure distribution for a fixed vertical cylinder obtained from this analysis has been compared with the results of an analytic solution of MacCamy-Fuchs, and good agreements has been obtained. It is desirable to use 6 in the case of analytic solution, and 5 in the case of numerical solution as the Fourier Mode of Green function. The results in this study are expected to be utilized for structural analysis such as pseudo-static analysis, dynamic analysis and fatigue analysis.

Cavity tone is generated due to the feedback between flow and acoustic wave. It is recognized that the period is determined by the time required for the flow convection in one direction, the time required for the acoustic propagation in the other direction and the time for phase shift depending on the flows and mode. Most of the phenomena have been investigated by experiments and a simple but fundamental theory. But the cause of the phase shift and the correctness of the theory have not been clearly explained so far. In this paper, the phenomena are calculated numerically to obtain detail information of flow and acoustic wave to explain the mechanism including the phase. High order high resolution scheme of optimized high order compact is used to resolve the small acoustic quantities and large flow quantities at the same time. The data are reduced using cross correlation function in space and time and cross spectral density function which has phase information. Abrupt change in pressure near corner in cavity is observed and is relate to phase variation. The time required for the feedback between the flow and acoustic wave is calculated after the numerical simulation f3r various modes. The periods based on the time calculated using the above method and direct observation from the acoustic waves generated and propagated in the numerical simulation are compared. It is found that no phase shift is required if we examine the time required carefully. Rossiter's formula for the cavity tone used for quick estimation needs to be modified far some modes.
Nonlinear and forced oscillations of supported viscous droplet were focused in the present study. The droplet has a free contact line with solid plate and inviscid fluid. Natural frequencies of a pendant droplet have been investigated experimentally by imposing the acoustic wave while the frequency is being increased at a fixed amplitude. The evaporation was observed at atmosphere pressure. The droplet was recorded throughout the entire evaporation process and transient variations of the volume was measured. The evaporation process of oscillating droplet with thermofoil has been also observed to investigate analyzing the resonance effect on the thermal characteristics of droplet. It is found that a pendant droplet shows the resonant behaviors at each mode similar to the theoretical analysis. During imposing the acoustic wave, the pendant droplet makes a rotating motion in its longitudinal axis which is a new shape oscillation mode. The evaporation rate of a pendant droplet at resonant frequency is significantly enhanced.

Numerical analysis was performed to investigate the heavy-weight impact noise of apartment houses. The FEM is practical method for prediction of low-frequency indoor noise. The results of numerical analysis, the shape of the acoustic modes in room-2 are similar to that of acoustic pressure field at the fundamental frequency of acoustic modes. And the acoustic pressure was amplified at the natural frequency of the acoustic modes and structural modes. The numerical analysis result of sound pressure level at 63 Hz and 125 Hz octave-band center frequency are similar to the test results, but at 250 Hz and 500 Hz have some errors. Considering most of bang-machine force spectrum exists below 100 Hz, the noise at 250 Hz and 500 Hz are not important for heavy-weight impact noise. Thus, the FEM numerical analysis method for heavy-weight impact noise can apply to estimate heavy-weight impact noise for various building systems.
