Recently, to assure the integrity of a structural components such as piping pressure vessels and thinning structure, Lamb wave inspection technique has been used in material evaluation. It is very important to select the optimal Lamb wave mode and to analyze the signal accurately because of its unique dispersion properties grnerating several modes within the speci-men. It this study, the feasibility of material evaluation applications using wavelet analysis of Lamb wave has been veir-fied experimentally. These results show as follows; 1)dispersion characteristic of each mode in dispersion curve is demon-strated that A0 mode propagating material surface is useful mode having the lest energy loss and not sensitive to surface condition. 2) it can be detected even the micro defect ($1\times2mm$) fabricated in ultrasonic probe flaw distance (290mm) to axis direction. 3) the wavelet transform which is called "time-frequency analysis" shows the Lamb wave propagation due to the change of materials characterization can be evaluated at each frequency and experimental group velocity of Lamb wave agrees quite well with that of simulated dispersion curve.ion curve.

We can predict spatial acoustic pressure distribution on the plane of interest by using acoustic holography. However, the information embedded in the distribution plot is usually much more than what we need: for example, source locations and their overall propagation pattern. One possible candidate to solve the problem is complex envelope analysis. Complex envelope analysis extracts slowly-varying envelope signal from a band signal. We have attempted to extend this method to space domain so that we can have spatial information that we need. We have to modulate two dimensional data for obtaining spatial envelope. Although spatial modulation basically follows the same concept that is used in time domain, the algorithm for the spatial modulation turns out to be different from temporal modulation. We briefly describe temporal complex envelope analysis and extend it to spatial envelope of 2-D acoustic field by introducing geometric transformation. In the end, the results of applying the spatial envelope to the holography are envisaged and verified.
Sea waves induce significant pressures on coastal surfaces, especially on rocky vertical cliffs or breakwater structures (Peregrine 2003). In the present work, this hydrodynamic pressure is considered as the excitation acting on a piezoelectric material sheet, installed on a vertical cliff, and connected to an external electric circuit (on land). The whole hydro/piezo/electric system is modeled in the context of linear wave theory. The piezoelectric elements are assumed to be small plates, possibly of stack configuration, under a specific wiring. They are connected with an external circuit, modeled by a complex impedance, as usually happens in preliminary studies (Liang and Liao 2011). The piezoelectric elements are subjected to thickness-mode vibrations under the influence of incident harmonic water waves. Full, kinematic and dynamic, coupling is implemented along the water-solid interface, using propagation and evanescent modes (Athanassoulis and Belibassakis 1999). For most energetically interesting conditions the long-wave theory is valid, making the effect of evanescent modes negligible, and permitting us to calculate a closed-form solution for the efficiency of the energy harvesting system. It is found that the efficiency is dependent on two dimensionless hydro/piezo/electric parameters, and may become significant (as high as 30 - 50%) for appropriate combinations of parameter values, which, however, corresponds to exotically flexible piezoelectric materials. The existence or the possibility of constructing such kind of materials formulates a question to material scientists.
Gas hydrates are solid solutions when water molecules are linked through hydrogen bonding and create host lattice cavities that can enclose many kinds of guest(gas) molecules. There are plenty of methane(gas) hydrate in the earth and distributed widely at offshore and permafrost. Several schemes, to produce methane hydrates, have been studied. In this study, depressurization method has been utilized for the numerical model due to it's simplicity and effectiveness. IMPES method has been used for numerical analysis to get the saturation and velocity profile of each phase and pressure profile, velocity of dissociation front progress and the quantity of produced gas. The values calculated for the sample length of 10m, show that methane hydrates has been dissolved completely in approximately 223 minutes and the velocity of dissociation front progress is 3.95㎝ per minute. The volume ratio of the produced gas in the porous media is found to be about 50%. Analysing the saturation profile and the velocity profile from the numerical results, the permeability of each phase in porous media is considered to be the most important factor in the two phase flow propagation. Consequently, permeability strongly influences the productivity of gas in porous media for methane hydrates.
Six different size of torch-ignition device were applied in a constant volume combustion chamber for evaluating the effects of torch-ignition on combustion. The torch-ignition device was designed for six different volumes and same orifice size. The combustion pressures were measured to calculate the mass burn fraction and combustion enhancement rate. In addition, the flame propagations were visualized by shadowgraph method for the qualitative comparison. The result showed that the combustion pressure and mass burn fraction were increased when using the torch ignition device. And the combustion duration were decreased. The combustion enhancement rates of torch-ignition cases were improved in comparison with conventional spark ignition. Finally, the visualization results showed that the torch-ignition induced faster burn than conventional spark ignition due to the earlier transition to turbulent flame and larger flame surface, during the initial stage. Finally, the initial flame propagation was affected by torch-ignition volume.
The influences of TiC additions to the α-SiC on microstructural, mechanical, and electrical properties were investigated. Electrical discharge machinability of SiC-TiC composites was also studied. Samples were prepared by adding 30, 45, 60 wt.% TiC particles as a second phase to a SiC matrix. Sintering of SiC-TiC composites was done by hot pressing under a vacuum atmospehre from 1000 to 2000℃ with a pressure of 32 MPa and held for 90 minutes at 2000℃. Samples obtained by hot pressing were fully dense with the relative densities over 99% except 60wt.% TiC samples. Flexural strength and fracture toughness of the samples were increased with the TiC content. In case of SiC samples containing 45 wt.% TiC, the fracture toughness showed 90% increase compared to that of monolithic SiC sample. The crack propagation and crack deflection were observed with a SEM for etched samples after Vicker's indentation. The electrical resistivities of SiC-TiC composites were measured utilizing the four-point probe. The electrical dischage machining of composites was also conducted to evaluate the machinability.

Down scaled combustor undergoes increased heat loss that results in incomplete combustion or quenching of the flame as a consequence. Therefore, effect of enhanced heat loss should be understood to design a MEMS scale combustion devices. Existing combustion models are inadequate for micro combustors because they were developed for analysis of regular scale combustor where heat loss can be ignored during the flame propagation. In this research a combustion model is proposed in order to estimate the heat loss and predict quenching limit of flame in a down scaled combustor. Heat loss in the burned region is expressed in a convective form as a product of wall surface area, heat transfer coefficient and temperature difference. Comparison to the measurements showed satisfactory agreement of the pressure and temperature drop. Quenching is accounted for by introducing a correlation of quenching parameter and heat loss. The present model predicted burnt fraction of gases with reasonable accuracy and proved to be applicable in thermal design of a micro combustor.

Micro engine that includes Micro scale combustor is fabricated. Design target was focused on the observation of combustion driven actuation in MEMS scale. Combustor design parameters are somewhat less than the size recommended by feasibility test. The engine structure is fabricated by isotropic etching of the photosensitive glass wafers. Electrode formed by electroplating of the Nickel. Photosensitive glass can be etched isotropically with almost vertical angle. Bonding and assembly of structured photosensitive glass wafer form the engine. Combustor size was determined to be 1 mm scale. Movable piston is engraved inside the wafer. Ignition was done by nickel spark plug which was electroplated with thickness of 40 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The wafers were bonded by epoxy that resists high temperature. In firing test due to the bonding method and design tolerance pressure buildup by reaction was not confirmed. But ignition, flame propagation and actuation of micro structure from the reaction was observed. From the result basement of design and fabrication technology was obtained.
Convective systems propagate eastward with a persistent pattern in the longitude-time space. The characteristic structure and fluctuation of convective system is helpful in determining its predictability. In this study, convective index (CI) was defined as a difference between GOES-9 window and water vapor channel brightness temperatures following Mosher (2001). Then the temporal-spatial scales and variational characteristics of the summer convective systems in the East Asia were analyzed. It is found that the average moving speed of the convective system is about 14 m/s which is much faster than the low pressure system in the summer. Their average duration is about 12 hours and the average length of the cloud streak is about 750km. These characteristics are consistent with results from other studies. Although the convective systems are forced by the synoptic system and are mostly developed in the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, they have a persistent pattern, i.e., appearance of the maximum intensity of convective systems, as they approach the Korean Peninsula. The consistency of the convective systems, i.e., the eastward propagation, suggests that there exists an intrinsic predictability.

When explosives explode in water, the effect of post-explosion gas after explosion should be considered, unlike explosion in the air. During explosion in water, the propagation velocity of the explosion pressure is faster than when the explosion occurs in the air. The generated gas is diffused and trapped in the form of bubbles by water before the energy is dissipated. At this time, the bubble expands and contracts, creating a shock wave. In order to investigate this series of phenomena, a cylinder type steel water tank capable of observing the interior was fabricated and explosion experiments were conducted. In this study, a small amount of shell-free pentolite was exploded in water. Experiments were performed to observe the behavior of the generated gas bubble as well as to measure the shock wave generated. We designed the experimental method of underwater explosion and examined the results.
