  • Epoxy/mica composite was synthesized, in order to use it as an impregnation resin in a vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI) process, for manufacturing a high voltage rotary machine. The average particle size of the mica was 5~7 ${\mu}m$ and its content was 0, 20, 30 and 40 wt%. A plasticizer or a low molecular aliphatic epoxy was also used, to decrease the viscosity of the composite. The AC electrical breakdown strength was estimated in sphere-to-sphere electrodes, and the electrical breakdown data were estimated by Weibull statistical analysis. The electrical breakdown strength became higher with the addition of mica; and that of the system with 20 wt% mica was highest. The electrical breakdown strength of the system with an aliphatic epoxy was higher than that of the system with a, plasticizer.

  • Recently Among indoor noises plumbing noise from supply and drain water pipe is being pointed out as a annoying noise following to floor impact noise, and it is increasing the rate to point the noise due to the following several reasons: water pressure, vibration by fabricated structures and direct noise propagation from upper floor through ceiling This study aims to analyse the characteristics of toilet stool plumbing noise in apartment bathroom which are generated by crossing plumbings and elbows. And it analyse the effect of noise reduction by soundproofing and insulations which are covered at crossing plumbings. And also analyse the characteristics of noise about a type of elbows, crossing plumbing and result of dB(A). At last it provide a fundamental data for the purpose of reduction of plumbing noise in apartment.

  • When a high-speed train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated. This wave subsequently emerges from the exit portal of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise called 'Sonic boom' or 'micro-pressure wave'. In the present study, new method is presented for prediction of sonic boom noise, especially focusing on the effect of the nose shape of the train on the resultant noise. Acoustic theory for monopole source is used to represent a nose shape of the train in wave equation. Compression wave propagation in tunnel considering tunnel track condition and emission of sonic boom was calculated. The predicted compression waves and impulsive sound waves are compared with recent measurements, and show reasonable agreements.

  • As a part of micro engine development feasibility estimation was done through fabrication and test of down scaled combustor and MEMS fabricated spark electrode. In an experimental observation of the down scaled combustion phenomena where flame propagation was observed by optical method and pressure change in combustor which gives the information about the reaction generated thermal energy was recorded and analyzed. Optimal combustor scale was derived to be about 2mm considering increased heat loss effect and thermal energy generation capability. Through the fabrication and discharge test of MEMS electrode effects of electrode width and gap was investigated. Electrode was fabricated by thick PR mold and electroplating. From the result discharge voltage characteristic in sub millimeter scale electrode having thickness of $40{\mu}m$ was obtained. From the result base technology for design and fabrication of micro engine was obtained.

  • This study is focused on the development of a new muffler. A control valve installed in the exhaust system is operated by torsion springs, and its open angle is controlled automatically corresponding to the engine operating conditions. The experiments were done using an exhaust system simulator having the same pulsation wave frequency and similar pulsation propagation characteristics of a real exhaust system. The purpose of this study is to develop a new muffler system which has improved noise reduction quality and less power loss than conventional mufflers and electronic-control mufflers.

  • Characteristics of methane direct-injection spark-ignition stratified combustion in lean hydrogen mixture were analyzed both in a single cylinder engine and in a constant volume combustion chamber. Combustion pressure and Instantaneous combustion chamber wall temperature during the combustion process were measured with a thin-film thermocouple and used in analyses of combustion and cooling loss. Results in this research show that the premixed hydrogen increases cooling loss to combustion chamber wall while achieving combustion promotion, and the combustion system is effective especially in lean mixture conditions. Analysis of flame propagation was also done with Schlieren photography in the constant volume combustion chamber.

  • In this study, the adaptive triangular beam method(ATBM) considering different sound reflection coefficients and angles of a triangular beam on two or more planes as well as diffraction effect is suggested. The ATBM, subdividing a tracing triangular beam into multiple triangular beams on reflection planes, gives reliable and convergent sound-field analysis results without the dependancy on the number of initial triangular beam segmentation to search sound propagation paths from source to receiver. The validity of the method is verified by the comparison of numerical and experimental results for energy decay curve and steady-state sound pressure level of rooms having direct, reflective and diffractive sound paths.

  • Acoustic holography exhibits the spatial distribution of sound pressure in time or frequency domain. The obtained picture often contains far more than what we need in practice. For example, when we need to know only the locations and overall propagation pattern of sound sources, a method to show only what we need has to be introduced. One way of obtaining the necessary information is to use envelope in space. The spatial envelope is a spatially slowly-varying amplitude of acoustic waves which contains the information of sources' location. A spatial modulation method has been theoretically developed to get a spatial envelope. By applying the spatial envelope, not only the necessary information is obtained but also computation time is reduced during the process of holography. The spatial envelope is verified as an effective visualization scheme in time domain by being applied to complicated sound fields.

  • A parametric study was made to understand the fundamentals of combustion of CNG fuel in a constant volume chamber in the respect of swirl effect, and the numbers of spark ignition. Optical devices were applied for the visualization of the physics of combustion, and combustion pressures and exhaust emission were measured at several equivalence ratios by controlling speeds of a swirling motor. When the speed of a swirling motor was raised the combustion conditions were improved. The corresponding maximum combustion pressure and heat release rate were increased and the speed of flame propagation was getting faster. This research may contribute to improve the performance of CNG engine and reduce emissions in future.

  • The shock wave process represents an abrupt change in fluid properties, in which finite variations in pressure, temperature, and density occur over the shock thickness which is comparable to the mean free path of the gas molecules involved. This shock wave fluid phenomenon is simulated by using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). In this paper, a new model is proposed using the lattice BGK compressible fluid model in FDLBM for the purpose of speeding up the calculation as well as stabilizing the numerical scheme. The numerical results of the proposed model show good agreement with the theoretical predictions.
