  • According to the presentation of the new national curriculum, this study aims to analyze teacher's perceptions of the information education for lower grade students in elementary school. Before conducting survey, analyzing overseas and domestic researches were preceded. The questionnaires were collected by an online survey of 166 incumbent elementary school teachers after verification by an expert group. As a result, contrary to the basis of the information education curriculum to be strengthened, teacher's stagnant negative perceptions could be confirmed through various measurement variables. Before the introduction of a new national curriculum in 2024, it is a time when efforts to improve teacher's perceptions of information education for lower graders are particularly necessary.

  • In this pressentation it is argued that the heterogeneity of a hydrologic attribute which may seem to be nonstationary at one scale, may become stationary at a larger scale. The fundamental reason for transformation from nonstationarity to stationarity whith the increase in scale is the phenomenon of coarse-graining of the hydrologic processes with increasing scale. Due to the phenomenon of aliasing, a particular scale hydrologic process heterogeneity which is observed as a nonstationary process at that scale, may be observed as a stationary process at a higher(larger) scale whose size is bigger than the stationary extent of the lower scale heterogeneity. As one goes through a hierarchical sequence of larger and larger scales for observations, one would eliminate nonstationarities which emerge at some lower scales at the expense of losing information on the high frequency fluctuations of the lower scale heterogeneities which will no longer be observed at the larger sampling scales. We call this phenimenon as the "coarse-graining in hydrologic observations". In this presentation, it is also argued that by the coarse-graining of hydrologic processes due to the averaging and aliasing operations at increasing scales, the conservation laws corresponging to these scales may still be quite parsimonious, and need not be more complicated as the scales get larger. It is shown that shen a higher(larger) scale process is formed by averaging a lower(smaller) scale process in time or space, the high frequency components of the lower scale process will be eliminated by the averaging operation. Thereby, the resuliiting average hydrologic dynamics, free from the effects of the high frequency components of the lower scale process, can still be quite simple in form. This is demonstrated by means of some recent upscaling work on the solute teansport conservation equation for hetergeneous aquifers. By means of this solute transport example, it is also shown that for the ensemble average form of a hydrologic conservation equation to be equivalent to its volume-average form at any scale, the parameter functions of that conservation equation at the immediately lower scale must be ergodic.

  • In retrospect, the irony of this story began with the first meeting of these co-authors-in of all places, Coimbatore, India, in 2008, at the 12th International Perforator Flap Course. Here the junior author [hereafter "jp"] demonstrated his unparalleled skills in networking, and soon thereafter journeyed some 11,073 km to Allentown, U.S. to peruse the operating room and clinics of the senior author [sic. ggh] in action. Within 2 years jp orchestrated the presentation of the 14th International Perforator Flap Course, so ggh with great anticipation flew only 6,830 miles to reach Seoul, Korea for his first time. But four years more elapsed before ggh returned again to Korea to be a visiting professor, all the while not quite sure why any Korean would want anything from a country doctor who resided in nowheresville Allentown, Pennsylvania. Yet, an extraordinary fact then was to be unveiled, about which ggh was totally ignorant. The pioneer of plastic surgery in Korea, the first Korean to have completed an accredited plastic surgery fellowship, by coincidence had accomplished all this in . . . . . Allentown. The collegial relationship that evolved between these co-authors, who met by chance, indeed had a precedent coincidence! Was this "by chance" alone or predestination? Amazingly, in a way similar, the origin of plastic surgery itself in Korea also had Allentown connections. As a tribute to Lew Jae-duk, this important story must be here told, so let us now retrace his past in Allentown so we can find how the future was to be not so far away.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the manipulative materials in the Australian Maths 300 program by applying it to Korean Elementary Mathematics Education - based on parts of 'Probability and Statistics', and 'Symbol and Expression'. In order to this purpose, we select appropriate Maths 300's manipulate materials that could be used to obtain learning objectives within class time for each part, four lessons with the materials were taught at to third, fourth, and fifth grade students of elementary School. The effect of the teaching was analyzed by videotape and student opinion. The results of this study are the following: First, the manipulative tools were almost entirely lacking for the 'Probability and Statistics' section without a 'number of cases' unit. The tools presented in the 'Symbol and Expression' section were helpful in the games that were used for checking preceding learning. Second, the results of using the Math 300 manipulative materials in class showed that the students were eager to be involved in the activities using those materials and to find their own solutions in problem-solving questions that were suited to them; these led to them making their own questions. In response to questioning about the use of the manipulative materials, the students stated that it was easy and fun for them to use the manipulative materials, to solve the problems for themselves, and that they would like to continue practicing the activities in the future. Finally, Studies on the presentation of a variety of manipulative materials including those in this study that can used in problem-solving learning and other learning fields, and the methodology for the use of manipulative materials can be enhanced through further studies.

  • Objective: The current body of evidence lacks clarity regarding the comparative efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and microwave ablation (MWA) as minimally invasive treatments for benign thyroid nodules. The primary objective of this study is to clarify these concerns. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted using the Cochrane Library, Scopus, Europe PMC, and Medline databases until October 10th, 2023, using a combination of relevant keywords. This study incorporated literature that compared RFA and MWA for benign thyroid nodules. The primary outcome was the volume reduction ratio (VRR) from baseline to follow-up. Secondary outcomes were symptom score, cosmetic score, ablation time, major complications rate, hemorrhage, hoarseness, skin burn, cough, and sympathetic nerve injury. We used Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies - of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool to assess the risk of bias in the included studies. We employed random effects models to analyze the standardized mean difference (SMD) and odds ratio for the presentation of outcomes. Results: Nine studies with 2707 nodules were included. The results of our meta-analysis indicated similar efficacy between RFA and MWA in terms of VRR during the 1 (SMD 0.06; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.13 to 0.26; P = 0.52) and 3 (SMD 0.11; 95% CI: -0.03 to 0.25; P = 0.12) months of follow-up. VRR was significantly higher in RFA than in MWA at the 6 (SMD 0.25; 95% CI: 0.06-0.43; P = 0.008) and 12 month of follow-up (SMD 0.38; 95% CI: 0.17 to 0.59; P < 0.001). There were no significant differences between RFA and MWA in symptom scores, cosmetic scores, or the incidence of complications, including hemorrhage, hoarseness, skin burn, cough, and sympathetic nerve injury. Conclusion: RFA showed a higher VRR than MWA at 6 and 12-month follow-ups, with a comparable safety profile.
