Purpose: The purpose of this study is to introduce regression method in the presence of competing risks and to show how you can use the method with hypothetical data. Methods: Survival analysis has been widely used in biostatistics division. But the same method has not been utilized in reliability division. Especially competing risks, where more than a couple of causes of failure occur and the occurrence of one event precludes the occurrence of the other events, are scattered in reliability field. But they are not utilized in the area of reliability or they are analysed in the wrong way. Specifically Kaplan-Meier method is used to calculate the probability of failure in the presence of competing risks, thereby overestimating the real probability of failure. Hence, cumulative incidence function is introduced. In addition, sample competing risks data are analysed using cumulative incidence function along with some graphs. Lastly we compare cumulative incidence functions with regression type analysis briefly. Results: We used cumulative incidence function to calculate the survival probability or failure probability in the presence of competing risks. We also drew some useful graphs depicting the failure trend over the lifetime. Conclusion: This research shows that Kaplan-Meier method is not appropriate for the evaluation of survival or failure over the course of lifetime in the presence of competing risks. Cumulative incidence function is shown to be useful in stead. Some graphs using the cumulative incidence functions are also shown to be informative.

This study intended to evaluate the viability of cyber education in terms of learning satisfaction and learning achievement. The study integrated two research streams such as social presence model and learning environment model. Where the learning environment model emphasizes the components of learning aids, social presence model considers more deeply the relationships among peers and with instructors. These two research streams have been considered relatively independently. The study integrated these ideas and measured their reliabilities and validities. The results demonstrate that the two constructs are relevantly independent and both of these constructs are very important considerations for the success of cyber education. The study concludes that cyber education 2.0 requires more social presence factors than the learning environment factors such as technological development or new equipments.

In wireless communications, chaotic communications have been a field of interest due to its low complexity in hardware implementation and low power consumption in chaotic signal generation. Among the modulation schemes using the chaotic signal, Differential Chaos Shift Keying (DCSK) is a robust non coherent technique. As in the conventional communication systems, chaos-based systems are required to provide reasonable bit error performance in the presence of a narrow-band signal coming from any other systems. The frequency band of this foreign narrow band signal may lie within the bandwidth of the chaos-based systems. This situation may occur when chaotic signal transmission is done in the presence of other conventional communication system. This paper has evaluated the performance of the non coherent differential chaos shift keying (DCSK) system under the presence of conventional non-chaotic transmit reference system. Both systems are assumed to have same data rates. The mathematical expressions for the bit error rate (BER) are derived with computer simulations to verify the analytical results.

In this paper we introduce a modified objective function for fuzzy c-means clustering with logistic regression model in the presence of noise cluster. The logistic regression model is commonly used to describe the effect of one or several explanatory variables on a binary response variable. In real application there is very often no sharp boundary between clusters so that fuzzy clustering is often better suited for the data.
This study is to focuses on users' attitudes toward augmented reality games. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Flow theory, continuous usage intention was set as a dependent variable, and immersion was set as a mediating variable. As independent variables, spatial presence, perceived interactivity, perceived pleasure, and sickness were set. Besides, this study strived to compare and analyze Korean and Chinese Data. The results of this study were as follows. First of all, Korean users significantly affected spatial presence, perceived pleasure, and immersion. Spatial presence and perceived pleasure had also mediated effects on continuous usage intention through immersion. However, perceived interactivity and sickness did not affect immersion and even no mediating effect to continuous usage intention. In the case of Chinese users, spatial presence, perceived interactivity, and perceived pleasure were grouped into one variable. This variable influenced immersion and also had mediated effect on continuous usage intention. However, sickness, like Korean users, did not affect the set path. This study had implications for analyzing user perspective using immersion, a significant variable in previous research. In addition, this study found similarities and characteristics through a comparative analysis between Korean and Chinese users indirectly.

Why does e-Learning service for individuals remain in the early development stage? To find the answers of this question, we adopted usefulness and intention to continued use as dependent variables based on technology acceptance model and inferred convenience, cost-effectiveness, social presence, interactivity, concentration, and procrastination as independent variables based on literature review and interview with e-Learning users. Convenience and cost-effectiveness of e-Learning tend to enhance usefulness and/or intention to continued use, while lack of social presence, interactivity, and concentration of e-Learning and academic procrastination tend to hinder usefulness and/or intention to continued use. To prove this research model, we used a data set collected from the survey. The respondents of survey were the undergraduate students who used voluntarily e-Learning. Data analysis was conducted using 275 respondents by partial least square. The analysis result of causal relation indicated that convenience and cost-effectiveness influenced both usefulness and intention to continued use, and that cost-effectiveness and concentration influenced only intention to continued use. But, interactivity and procrastination did not influence usefulness and intention to continued use.

In this article we extend the discrete Weibull regression model in the presence of missing data. Discrete Weibull regression models can be adapted to various type of dispersion data however, it is not widely used. Recently Yoo (Journal of the Korean Data and Information Science Society, 30, 11-22, 2019) adapted the discrete Weibull regression model using single imputation. We extend their studies by using multiple imputation also with several various settings and compare the results. The purpose of this study is to address the merit of using multiple imputation in the presence of missing data in discrete count data. We analyzed the seventh Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VII), from 2016 to assess the factors influencing the variable, 1 month hospital stay, and we compared the results using discrete Weibull regression model with those of Poisson, negative Binomial and zero-inflated Poisson regression models, which are widely used in count data analyses. The results showed that the discrete Weibull regression model using multiple imputation provided the best fit. We also performed simulation studies to show the accuracy of the discrete Weibull regression using multiple imputation given both under- and over-dispersed distribution, as well as varying missing rates and sample size. Sensitivity analysis showed the influence of mis-specification and the robustness of the discrete Weibull model. Using imputation with discrete Weibull regression to analyze discrete data will increase explanatory power and is widely applicable to various types of dispersion data with a unified model.
The advantages of implementing a virtual channel can be derived from the notion of the 'death of distance' that would result from electronic commerce. According to this view, the internet was going to make distance irrelevant, in that firms would no longer need to establish a physical presence in a geographical location in order to do business there. However, on-line firms selling physical products could take advantages of presence in the related off-line(brick and mortar) industrial area. This paper developed a conceptual framework that highlights the various types of synergies by location on-line businesses in the related off-line industrial area. Using data from 96 on-line ventures selling physical products, factor analysis was used to figuring out six synergies including improved customer trust, value-added service, cost savings, personnel and organizational efficiency, sharing products and customer information, relationship with suppliers, and relationship with local government. The six empirically derived critical synergy factors were then used to examine how they improve performance of the on-line ventures measured by Balanced Scorecard(BSC). According to lthe results, we concluded that the on-line firms selling physical products can take advantages of presence in the related off-line industrial area.

Despite the potential implications of Facebook use, there is a distinct lack of empirically derived theory for designing learning environment. This may be because Facebook is a social tool and there has been limited opportunity for exploratory research regarding Facebook based learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate learning presence factors affecting learning outcomes in Facebook-based collaborative learning. Forty two college students participated in the Facebook-based collaborative learning activity, and the data from thirty nine were used for step-wise multiple regression analysis. In addition focus group interview was conducted to examine learning presence of Facebook-based collaborative learning. The results reported that cognitive presence predicted significantly learning outcomes, however, social and emotional presence did not predict learning outcomes. The implication of this study and future research were discussed in this research.
The data grid provides geographically distributed resources for large-scale applications. It generates a large set of data. The replication of this data in several sites of the grid is an effective solution for achieving good performance. In this paper we propose an approach of dynamic replication in a hierarchical grid that takes into account crash failures in the system. The replication decision is taken based on two parameters: the availability and popularity of the data. The administrator requires a minimum rate of availability for each piece of data according to its access history in previous periods, but this availability may increase if the demand is high on this data. We also proposed a strategy to keep the desired availability respected even in case of a failure or rarity (no-popularity) of the data. The simulation results show the effectiveness of our replication strategy in terms of response time, the unavailability of requests, and availability.
