In this study, we investigate the effect of social presence and affection on usage and participation in the UCC service. We have conducted a face-to-face survey along with an e-mail survey and obtained a total of 329 responses. The findings show that social presence has a significant impact on pleasure and arousal. Social presence and pleasure in turn show a positive impact on using the UCC service. However, arousal has no significant influence on the UCC service usage. Participation in the UCC service appears to be a different behavior than the UCC usage. Pleasure shows a negative effect on the UCC service participation, while arousal very strongly and positively affects the UCC service participation. The significance of this study can be found in that it empirically demonstrates the importance of social presence and affection in promoting the UCC service usage.
Many online stores bring features that can build trust in their customers. More so, the number of products or content services on online stores has been increasing rapidly. Hence, personalization on online stores is considered to be an important technology to companies and customers. Recommender systems that provide favorable products and customer product reviews to users are the most commonly used features in this purpose. There are many studies to that investigated the relationship between social presence as an antecedent of trust and provision of recommender systems or customer product reviews. Many online stores have made efforts to increase perceived social presence of their customers through customer reviews, recommender systems, and analyzing associations among products. Primarily because social presence can increase customer trust or reuse intention for online stores. However, there were few studies that investigated the interactions between recommendation type, product type and provision of customer product reviews on social presence. Therefore, one of the purposes of this study is to identify the effects of personalized recommender systems and compare the role of customer reviews with product types. This study performed an experiment to see these interactions. Experimental web pages were developed with $2{\times}2$ factorial setting based on how to provide social presence to users with customer reviews and two product types such as hedonic and utilitarian. The hedonic type was a ringtone chosen from Nate.com while the utilitarian was a TOEIC study aid book selected from Yes24.com. To conduct the experiment, web based experiments were conducted for the participants who have been shopping on the online stores. Participants were a total of 240 and 30% of the participants had the chance of getting the presents. We found out that social presence increased for hedonic products when personalized recommendations were given compared to non.personalized recommendations. Although providing customer reviews for two product types did not significantly increase social presence, provision of customer product reviews for hedonic (ringtone) increased perceived social presence. Otherwise, provision of customer product reviews could not increase social presence when the systems recommend utilitarian products (TOEIC study.aid books). Therefore, it appears that the effects of increasing perceived social presence with customer reviews have a difference for product types. In short, the role of customer reviews could be different based on which product types were considered by customers when they are making a decision related to purchasing on the online stores. Additionally, there were no differences for increasing perceived social presence when providing customer reviews. Our participants might have focused on how recommendations had been provided and what products were recommended because our developed systems were providing recommendations after participants rating their preferences. Thus, the effects of customer reviews could appear more clearly if our participants had actual purchase opportunity for the recommendations. Personalized recommender systems can increase social presence of customers more than nonpersonalized recommender systems by using user preference. Online stores could find out how they can increase perceived social presence and satisfaction of their customers when customers want to find the proper products with recommender systems and customer reviews. In addition, the role of customer reviews of the personalized recommendations can be different based on types of the recommended products. Even if this study conducted two product types such as hedonic and utilitarian, the results revealed that customer reviews for hedonic increased social presence of customers more than customer reviews for utilitarian. Thus, online stores need to consider the role of providing customer reviews with highly personalized information based on their product types when they develop the personalized recommender systems.

Modeling the reliability of distributed systems requires a good understanding the reliability of the components. For thousands of web users, competitiveness in web services means a successful presence on the web. Failure rates for the presence of a web site are considered on client sides errors using RFC2068. Data were collected from some host via the internet.

This dissertation measures transitory items using earnings change scaled by beginning-of-period price(FreemanㆍTse 1992) and the earnings-to-price ratio(AliㆍZarowin 1992). Contextual regression model results confirm the incremental explanatory power for predominantly permanent earnings, and suggest that cash flows also have incremental explanatory power in the presence of predominantly permanent earnings. But contextual regression results represent that while earnings are consistent with a smaller marginal impact from extreme (transitory) earnings on abnormal returns, cash flows have no greater impact on abnormal returns in the presence of large transitory components in earnings.

People are getting more interested in 3D stereoscopic movie, but due to the sudden concern, there is less research how 3D stereoscopic movie influence on people. The present research aims at developing 3D stereoscopic movie measurement. For this, we tested three variables which are perceived functionality, impression, and presence. Perceived functionality is defined as how people perceive functions of 3D stereoscopic movie for instance depth, and impression is defined as how people integrate various information as a total image. Finally, presence is a psychological state that individual's perception fails to accurately acknowledge the role of the technology in the experience. As a result, perceived functionality consists of four factors, impression consists of eight factors, and presence consists of three factors. As an exploratory research, we cannot guarantee the validity of the measurement, but as a seminal research it is worthwhile to pay attention.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of task value and perceived usefulness on learning outcomes. This study also examined the mediating effects of teaching presence in their relationships. As a result, task value and perceived usefulness significantly predicted learning outcomes (learning flow and learning persistence). In addition, teaching presence mediated between task value, perceived usefulness and learning outcome. This findings imply that task value, perceived usefulness, and teaching presence should be valued to enhance learning outcomes in Cyber university.
The objective of this paper is to contemplate a possible alternative to the examination, published as a research article in Information Systems Research(Sia et al. 2002), of the effects of communication cues, anonymity, and social presence on group polarization in computer-mediated communication(CMC) settings. Sia et al. introduced the concept of social presence to explain the effects of communication cues and anonymity on group polarization, but we believe that anonymity alone provides a clearer explanation of the results. This paper classifies levels of anonymity to provide possible explanations for Sia et a1. (2002)'s results and presents the results of a new experiment to confirm our explanation. We also want to emphasize that our comments are not intended to disparage the usefulness of social presence as a mediating variable to explain group polarization; our intention instead IS to encourage further investigation to better understand group polarization in CMC settings.

Recent improvements in technology have increased the consumption of virtual reality (VR) contents on immersive displays. The VR experience depends on the type of displays as well as the quality of VR contents. However, research on the impacts of VR content quality on VR experience and comparisons among different types of immersive display devices are lacking. In this study, VR contents created with our VR framework, are provided to participants on conventional two-dimensional (2D) immersive displays and VR headset. The geometric alignment of VR contents is improved with the addition of two calibration modes (i.e. preprocessing and straightening). The subjective feelings of presence and cybersickness experienced by participants while consuming VR contents created by our framework and commercial solutions are recorded in the form of questionnaires. The results of this study indicate that the improvements in VR quality lead to a better presence and less cybersickness in both conventional 2D displays and VR headset. Furthermore, the level of presence and cybersickness increases in VR headsets as compared to conventional 2D displays. Finally, the VR content quality improvements lead to a better VR experience for our VR framework as compared to commercial solutions.

This study investigates the influence of social exclusion type and presence of others on consumers' on-going purchase intention when purchasing fashion luxury goods. This study also identifies the moderating role of self-efficacy in which the interaction effect of social exclusion type and presence of others on on-going purchase intention. For the experiment, 2(social exclusion type: being ignored vs being rejected)×2(presence of others: presence vs absence)×2(self-efficacy: high vs low) factorial design was used. The findings of this study are summarized as follows. First, the result showed that there was no difference in on-going purchase intention according to social exclusion type. Second, the result showed that there was a significant interaction effect between social exclusion type and presence of others. Third, the three-way interaction effect of social exclusion type, presence of others, and self-efficacy was statistically significant. The results of this study provide useful information on which direction is needed to mitigate negative consumer behavior caused by social exclusion at the service interface.
Social media have been rapidly and widely adopted in various areas, and tourism industry can be one of potential growing areas. Tourist and travelers would like to share their photos and stories as well as find others' experiences. People are doing their activities through social media. Regarding relaxing entertainments, information sharing, escapism, social interaction, tourism activities are being paid attention by majority of users in social media. However, Although people have various motivation for using social media, academically researchers have not actively studied on the phenomenon arising from tourism industry. Therefore, this study aims to the reasons for tourism information searching motivational factors of social media that influence perceived value and its consequences such like before-searching, during-searching, and after-searching and divided social media into two types according to the level of social presence, and then empirically verified them. Antecedent variables divided into benefits including perceived usefulness and information quality and sacrifices including complexity and perceived effort. Our analysis results show that both of dimensions had the greatest effect on perceived value of social media use, which affect the consequences.
