  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the stresses of teachers for elementary science class. To do these, the Science Teacher Stress Inventory has been developed the Science Teacher Stress Inventory, which consisted of 45 stress factors with subcategories such as student characteristics, teacher characteristics, expertise of science education, school environment, and administrative procedures. 120 teachers for elementary science class have participated in this questionnaire survey. The results of this study are as follow: First, stress from teacher characteristics is perceived as having more stress factors than five stress factors (student characteristics, teacher characteristics, expertise of science education, school environment, and administrative procedures). but all of the five stress factors was under normal. The detail question of stress such as 'Having to guide educational guidance and course in life education', 'Having to cope with the demand of new curricula', 'Pace of the school day is too fast', 'No time to attend training of the experiment (preliminary experiment)', 'Not enough time to complete lesson preparation and marking', 'Having to cope with non-teaching delegated duties', 'Fear of getting injured as a result of lab accidents' are perceived as having a lot of stresses. Second, there were not statistically significant differences in their personal variables such as gender, the course of high school. but there were statistically significant differences in their personal variables such as whether elementary subject exclusive science teacher, career in education experience, teaching grade. Third, coping ways of stresses are active support for better science teaching conditions, training of the experiment for expertise of science education, developing a workbook for science class.

  • STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Factors affecting patients' decision-making for dental prosthetic treatment should be examined in terms of understanding improving patients' oral health. PURPOSE: The main purpose of this dissertation was to investigate patients' dental prosthetic treatment and factors affecting patients' decision-making for dental prosthesis treatment in Deagu and Gyungbook areas. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was based on the preliminary survey of dental patients conducted from July 1 to August 31 in 2006. A total of 700 questionnaires had been distributed and 640 were collected. 629 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics, such as frequencies, cross tabulation analysis, correlation analysis, logistic regression analysis, and multiple regression analysis were introduced. In the multiple regression analysis and logistic regression analysis, twenty-two independent variables were employed to explore the factors which have impacts on decision-making and satisfaction. RESULTS: The results of this dissertation are as follows: Logistic regression analysis turned out that monthly income, age, degree of expectation, marital status, and employer-insured policy of national insurance statistically increased the odds of decision-making of dental prosthesis treatment. But educational attainment decreased the odds ratio of the decision-making of dental prosthesis treatment. However, the rest independent variables do not have statistically significant impacts on the decision-making of dental prosthesis treatment CONCLUSION: Among independent variables, marital status had the most significant influence on the decision making of dental prosthesis treatment. Finally, suggestions for the future study and policy implications to improve satisfaction of the patients' dental prosthetic treatment were discussed.

  • Cobalt-rich manganese crusts on seamounts have received an increasing amount of attention as future resources for Co, Ni, Cu, and Mn. A dearth of detailed information regarding the relevant distribution characteristics, mining technologies, and ore processing technologies, however, has precluded potential evaluations of the technical and economic advantages of these crusts. In the past 4 years, Korea has undertaken a survey of the cobalt-rich manganese crusts in and around the Magellan Seamount and Mid-Pacific Mountains. This paper introduces the preliminary feasibility study of the distribution features and R&D results centered around the development of the cobalt-rich manganese crusts. The evaluation model was developed by modifying the model for the manganese nodules. In addition to considering the geological and geophysical differences between the manganese nodules and the cobalt-rich manganese crusts, an ore dressing subsystem was installed in the model. The mining subsystem is composed of a self-propelled collector--a pipeline with submersible hydraulic pumps for crust lifting. The smelting and chlorine leach method was selected for metallurgical processing. The production scales were established at 2,500t/y of cobalt metal. The production of three metals--cobalt, nickel, and copper--was considered in terms of metallurgical processing. The economic feasibility analyses demonstrated that the payback period was 11.4 years, the NPV was 36M$, and the IRR was 9.6% with the economic factors in the case of a cobalt price of US$ 25/lb. It was also demonstrated in this study that the payback period was 8.6 years, the NPV was 154M$, and the IRR was 14.0% in the case of a cobalt price of US$ 30/lb. This indicates that the approach under consideration appears to offer greater potential given the predicted metal prices.

  • This study tries to develop model in order to assess personal factors of senior traffic accidents that are widely recognized as one of the social problems. For the current practice. it gathers data (Simulation & Questionnaire Survey) of KOTSA and conducts Poisson and Negative Binomial Regression Analysis to develop traffic accident severity model. The results show that elderly drivers' accidents are mainly affected by attentiveness selection, velocity prediction ability and attentiveness distribution ability in a positive(+) way. Second, non-senior drivers' accidents are also positively(+) influenced by attentiveness selection, velocity prediction, distance perception, attentiveness distribution ability and attentiveness diversion ability. Therefore, influencing factors of senior and non-senior drivers to vehicle accidents are different. This eventually poses a indication that preliminary education for car accident prevention should be implemented based up[n the distinction between senior drivers and non-senior drivers.

  • A survey was performed to evaluate the distribution of radon concentrations in groundwater of South Korea. Groundwaters of 615 wells were sampled for this study during the four years from 1999 to 2002. The results showed radon values ranging from 4 pCi/L to 40,010 pCi/L with a mean and a median of 1,862 pCi/L and 920 pCi/L, respectively. The samples were classified into five groups according to the rock types; granite, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, Ogcheon metamorphic rocks, and Cheju volcanics. Mean radon concentrations were highest (2,595 pCi/L) in granites and lowest (238 pCi/L) in Cheju volcanic rocks. The groundwaters generally showed the highest radon content (2,298 pCi/L) in the weathered and the fractured bedrock complex and the lowest level (672 pCi/L) in the alluvium. The results showed that the radon concentrations in South Korea are low relative to those reported from other countries. But further investigations are suggested to confirm our results.

  • Purpose : The principal objective of this study was to develop adequate health promotion programs satisfying the needs of high school students by exploring a variety of factors that affected their participation in these programs. This research was also designed to serve as preliminary data for the development of health promotion programs that will encourage active student participation. Methods : The study used a descriptive correlational design. The study participants were 658 coeducational high school students in Seoul, consisting of 317 9th graders and 341 10th graders. For this study, 599 structured questionnaires were selected. The survey was conducted for the period from December 12, 2005 to December 23, 2005. Results : Overall, students surveyed in this research showed relatively active participation in health-promoting behaviors. Among 5 dimensions, interpersonal support received the highest score while health responsibility ranked the lowest. Another finding was that posture correction program enjoyed the strongest student participation (75.5%) followed by stress management program(70.1%) and weight control program (56.6%). On the other hand, the participation rates for no-drinking(12.9%), smoking cessation program(17.0%), and influenza prevention program(22.9%) were at the low end. Multiple logistic regression results indicate that the higher interpersonal support score of health promoting behaviors gets, the higher student participation becomes. Conclusion : The study demonstrated that student participation was determined by the nature of health-promoting programs, demographic characteristics and health related physical fitness. It also showed that the sub-scales of the programs played a bigger role in student participation. Keeping this in mind, a wealth of health-enhancing programs of distinguishing qualities need to be tailored to meet various needs of students. In addition, serious efforts should be made to motivate them to seek relevant health promotion programs.
