As various pieces of information can be provided through the web, schemes that provide search results optimized for individual users are required in consideration of user preference. Since the existing social search schemes use users' profiles, the accuracy of the search deteriorates. They also decrease the reliability of a search result because they do not consider a search time. Therefore, a new social search scheme that considers temporal information as well as popularities and user preferences is required. In this paper, we propose a new mobile social search scheme considering popularities and user preferences based on temporal information. Popularity is calculated by collecting the visiting records of users, while user preference is generated by the actual visiting information among the search results. In order to extract meaningful information from the search target objects that have multiple attributes, a skyline processing method is used, and rank is given to the search results by combining the user preference and the popularity with the skyline processing result. To show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we conduct performance evaluations of the existing scheme and the proposed scheme.
Collaborative filtering systems based on {user-document} matrix are effective in recommending web documents to user. But they have a shortcoming of decreasing the accuracy of recommendations by the first rater problem and the sparsity. This paper proposes the automatic preference rating method that generates user profile to solve the shortcoming. The profile in this paper is content-based collaborative user profile. The content-based collaborative user profile is generated by combining a content-based user profile with a collaborative user profile by mutual information method. Collaborative user profile is based on {user-document} matrix in collaborative filtering system, thus, content-based user profile is generated by relevance feedback in content-based filtering systems. After normalizing combined content-based collaborative user profiles, it automatically rates user preference by reflecting normalized profile in {user-document}matrix of collaborative filtering systems. We evaluated our method on a large database of user ratings for web document and it was certified that was more efficient than existent methods.

In this paper, we propose a method of loaming user preference for set-top box scenario. Our proposed method analyzes user history data to learn user preference and then automatically suggest the list of TV programs to the user under the assumption that the TV programs are regularly repeated on time and daily basis. We used MPEG-7 MDS to describe user history data. The experiment results show the proposed method yielded a good performance.
Typical semantic search query for Semantic search promises to provide more accurate result than present-day keyword matching-based search by using the knowledge base represented logically. Existing keyword-based retrieval system is Preference for the semantic interpretation of a user's query is not the meaning of the user keywords of interconnect, you can not search. In this paper, we propose a method that can provide accurate results to meet the user's search intent to user preference based evaluation by ranking search. The proposed scheme is Integrated ontology-based knowledge base built on the formal structure of the semantic interpretation process based on ontology knowledge base system.

This study analyzed the contents of Goodreads review data, which is a social cataloging service with the participation of book users around the world, to identify the preference factors that affect book users' book recommendations in the library information service environment. To understand user preferences from a more detailed point of view, sub-datasets for each rating group, each book, and each user were constructed in the sample selection process. Stratified sampling was also performed based on the result of topic modeling of review text data to include various topics. As a result, a total of 90 preference factors belonging to 7 categories('Content', 'Character', 'Writing', 'Reading', 'Author', 'Story', 'Form') were identified. Also, the general preference factors revealed according to the ratings, as well as the patterns of preference factors revealed in books and users with clear likes and dislikes were identified. The results of this study are expected to contribute to more sophisticated recommendations in future recommendation systems by identifying specific aspects of user preference factors.
Collaborative filtering is a technique that effectively recommends unrated items for users. Collaborative filtering is based on the similarity of the items evaluated by users. The existing top-N recommendation methods are based on pair-wise and list-wise preference models. However, these methods do not effectively represent the relative preference of items that are evaluated by users, and can not reflect the importance of each item. In this paper, we propose a new method to represent user's latent preference by combining an existing preference model and the notion of inverse user frequency. The proposed method improves the accuracy of existing methods by up to two times.

Owing to the large number of video programs available, a method for accessing preferred videos efficiently through personalized video summaries and clips is needed. The automatic recognition of user states when viewing a video is essential for extracting meaningful video segments. Although there have been many studies on emotion recognition using various user responses, electroencephalogram (EEG)-based research on preference recognition of videos is at its very early stages. This paper proposes classification models based on linear and nonlinear classifiers using EEG features of band power (BP) values and asymmetry scores for four preference classes. As a result, the quadratic-discriminant-analysis-based model using BP features achieves a classification accuracy of 97.39% (${\pm}0.73%$), and the models based on the other nonlinear classifiers using the BP features achieve an accuracy of over 96%, which is superior to that of previous work only for binary preference classification. The result proves that the proposed approach is sufficient for employment in personalized video segmentation with high accuracy and classification power.

In this study, a novel and flexible recommender system was developed, based on product taxonomy and usage patterns of users. The proposed system consists of the following four steps : (i) estimation of the product-preference matrix, (ii) construction of the product-preference matrix, (iii) estimation of the popularity and similarity levels for sought-after products, and (iv) recommendation of a products for the user. The product-preference matrix for each user is estimated through a linear combination of clicks, basket placements, and purchase statuses. Then the preference matrix of a particular genre is constructed by computing the ratios of the number of clicks, basket placements, and purchases of a product with respect to the total. The popularity and similarity levels of a user's clicked product are estimated with an entropy index. Based on this information, collaborative and content-based filtering is used to recommend a product to the user. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an empirical study was conducted by constructing an experimental e-commerce site. Our results clearly showed that the proposed hybrid method is superior to conventional methods.

Objective: The objective of this study was to suggest a multi-modal controller type for Smart TV Control. Background: Recently, many issues regarding the Smart TV are arising due to the rising complexity of features in a Smart TV. One of the specific issues involves what type of controller must be utilized in order to perform regulated tasks. This study examines the ongoing trend of the controller. Method: The selected participants had experiences with the Smart TV and were 20 to 30 years of age. A pre-survey determined the first independent variable of five tasks(Live TV, Record, Share, Web, App Store). The second independent variable was the type of controllers(Conventional, Mouse, Voice-Based Remote Controllers). The dependent variables were preference, task completion time, and error rate. The experiment consist a series of three experiments. The first experiment utilized a uni-modal Controller for tasks; the second experiment utilized a dual-modal Controller, while the third experiment utilized a triple-modal Controller. Results: The first experiment revealed that the uni-modal Controller (Conventional, Voice Controller) showed the best results for the Live TV task. The second experiment revealed that the dual-modal Controller(Conventional-Voice, Conventional-Mouse combinations) showed the best results for the Share, Web, App Store tasks. The third experiment revealed that the triple-modal Controller among all the level had not effective compared with dual-modal Controller. Conclusion: In order to control simple tasks in a smart TV, our results showed that a uni-modal Controller was more effective than a dual-modal controller. However, the control of complex tasks was better suited to the dual-modal Controller. User preference for a controller differs according the Smart TV functions. For instance, there was a high user preference for the uni-Controller for simple functions while high user preference appeared for Dual-Controllers when the task was complex. Additionally, in accordance with task characteristics, there was a high user preference for the Voice Controller for channel and volume adjustment. Furthermore, there was a high user preference for the Conventional Controller for menu selection. In situations where the user had to input text, the Voice Controller had the highest preference among users while the Mouse Type, Voice Controller had the highest user preference for performing a search or selecting items on the menu. Application: The results of this study may be utilized in the design of a controller which can effectively carry out the various tasks of the Smart TV.

It is well-known that virtualization technology can bring many benefits not only to users but also to service providers. From the view of system security and resource utility, higher resource sharing degree and higher system reliability can be obtained by the introduction of virtualization technology in distributed cloud. The small size time-sharing multiplexing technology which is based on virtual machine in distributed cloud platform can enhance the resource utilization effectively by server consolidation. In this paper, the concept of memory block and user satisfaction is redefined combined with user requirements. According to the unbalanced memory resource states and user preference requirements in multi-virtual machine environments, a model of proper memory resource allocation is proposed combined with memory block and user satisfaction, and at the same time a memory optimization allocation algorithm is proposed which is based on virtual memory block, makespan and user satisfaction under the premise of an orderly physical nodes states also. In the algorithm, a memory optimal problem can be transformed into a resource workload balance problem. All the virtual machine tasks are simulated in Cloudsim platform. And the experimental results show that the problem of virtual machine memory resource allocation can be solved flexibly and efficiently.
