  • In this study, autogenous shrinkage strain and prediction models of concrete specimens were compared with strength level and development rate. Also, concrete autogeneous shrinkage under various curing conditions was investigated. The results showed that autogeneous shrinkage increased as concrete strength increased. However, when the concrete strength was almost identical, the initial autogeneous shrinkage of OPC was larger than BFS, but the final autogeneous shrinkage of BFS was larger than OPC. Early wet curing reduced autogeneous shrinkage strain. Especially, when the early wet curing was applied for more than 24 hours, final autogeneous shrinkage was significantly reduced. The results showed that the existing EC2 models do not reflect concrete properties properly. Therefore, the revised model was proposed to better predict autogeneous shrinkage.

  • This paper describes an experimental investigation of how time-dependent deformations of high strength concretes are affected by maximum size of coarse aggregate, curing time, and relatively low sustained stress level. A set of high strength concrete mixes, mainly containing two different maximum sizes of coarse aggregate, have been used to investigate drying shrinkage and creep strain of high strength concrete for 7 and 28-day moist cured cylinder specimens. Based upon one-year experimental results, drying shrinkage of high strength concrete was significantly affected by the maximum size of coarse aggregate at early age, and become gradually decreased at late age. The larger the maximum size of coarse aggregate in high strength concrete shows the lower the creep strain. The prediction equations for drying shrinkage and creep coefficient were developed on the basis of the experimental results, and compared with existing prediction models.

  • This paper investigates prediction models estimating the hydration properties of concrete, such as the compressive strength, the splitting tensile strength, the elastic modulus, and the autogenous shrinkage. A prediction model is suggested on the basis of an equation that is formulated to predict the compressive strength. Based on the assumption that the apparent activation energy is a characteristic property of concrete, a prediction model for the compressive strength is applied to hydration-related properties. The hydration properties predicted by the model are compared with experimental results, and it is concluded that the prediction model properly estimates the splitting tensile strength, elastic modulus, and autogenous shrinkage as well as the compressive strength of concrete.

  • Owing to the obstruction of section steel on the moisture diffusion in concrete, the existing shrinkage prediction models overestimate the time-dependent deformation of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns, particularly for the SRC columns with enclosed section steels. To solve this issue, this study deals with analytical and experimental studies on the drying shrinkage for this type of column. First, an effective method for predicting the drying shrinkage of concrete based on finite element model is introduced and two crucial parameters for simulation of humidity field are determined. Then, the drying shrinkage of SRC columns with enclosed section steels is investigated and two modified parameters, which depend on the ambient relative humidity and the ratio of section steel size to column size, are introduced to the B3 model. Finally, an experiment on the shrinkage deformation of SRC columns with enclosed section steels is conducted. Comparing the predicted results with the experimental ones, it demonstrates that the modified B3 model is quite reasonable.

  • In this study, the drying shrinkage strains were compared of 24~60 MPa concrete specimens subjected to various curing conditions and measurement methods were compared. And, the applicability of the test and prediction methods were investigated. According to the results, drying shrinkage was significantly reduced in 28 day curing condition. In the sealed curing case, drying shrinkage strain from demolding time was identical to the one of the standard curing case for low strength concrete, however, drying shrinkage strain was greatly increased than the standard case for high strength case because of the effect of autogenous shrinkage. The efficient measurement was possible using the embedded gage for concrete drying shrinkage, but, the measured value by contact gage was lower than the one by the embedded gage. The test results agreed with EC2 model better than the other.

  • With the success of the genome-wide association studies (GWASs), many candidate loci for complex human diseases have been reported in the GWAS catalog. Recently, many disease prediction models based on penalized regression or statistical learning methods were proposed using candidate causal variants from significant single-nucleotide polymorphisms of GWASs. However, there have been only a few systematic studies comparing existing methods. In this study, we first constructed risk prediction models, such as stepwise linear regression (SLR), least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and Elastic-Net (EN), using a GWAS chip and GWAS catalog. We then compared the prediction accuracy by calculating the mean square error (MSE) value on data from the Korea Association Resource (KARE) with body mass index. Our results show that SLR provides a smaller MSE value than the other methods, while the numbers of selected variables in each model were similar.

  • In this study, the performance of the prediction model was compared and analyzed using DNN and LSTM learning models to predict the amount of dry shrinkage of the concrete. As a result of the analysis, DNN model had a high error rate of about 51%, indicating overfitting to the training data. But, the LSTM learning model showed a relatively higher accuracy with an error rate of 12% compared to the DNN model. Also, the Pre_LSTM model which preprocess data, showed the performance with an error rate of 9% and a coefficient of determination of 0.887 in the LSTM learning model.

  • The high-strength concrete(HSC) compared to normal concrete represents higher autogenous shrinkage due to lower water-to-binder ratio(W/B) and supplementaries, fly ash(FA) and granulated blast-furnace slag(BFS), etc. The potential of early age cracking which reduces durability of concrete structures is normally influenced by autogenous shrinkage and degree of restraint. Therefore, this paper studies on the evaluation of the characteristics of autogenous shrinkage for HSC, ultra-high-strength concrete(UHSC) containing admixtures by experimental test and the test results are compared with existed prediction models.

  • For high performance and structural stability, application of high strength steel has continuously increased. However, the change of the base metal gives rise to problems with the accuracy management of the welded structure. It is attributed to the martensite phase transformation of the high strength low alloy steel weldment. The purpose of this study is to establish the predictive equation of transverse shrinkage and residual stress for the HY-100 weldment. In order to do it, high speed quenching dilatometer tests were performed to define a coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) at the heating and cooling stage of HY-100 with various cooling rates. Uncoupled thermal-mechanical finite element(FE) models with CTE were proposed to evaluate the effect of the martensite phase transformation on transverse shrinkage and residual stresses at the weldment. FEA results were verified by comparing with experimental results. Based on the results of extensive FEA and experiments, the predictive equation of transverse shrinkage and longitudinal shrinkage force at the HY-100 weldment were formulated as the function of welding heat input/in-plane rigidity and welding heat input respectively.
