Introduction to Gene Prediction Using HMM Algorithm

  • Gene structure prediction, which is to predict protein coding regions in a given nucleotide sequence, is the most important process in annotating genes and greatly affects gene analysis and genome annotation. As eukaryotic genes have more complicated structures in DNA sequences than those of prokaryotic genes, analysis programs for eukaryotic gene structure prediction have more diverse and more complicated computational models. There are Ab Initio method, Similarity-based method, and Ensemble method for gene prediction method for eukaryotic genes. Each Method use various algorithms. This paper introduce how to predict genes using HMM(Hidden Markov Model) algorithm and present the process of gene prediction with well-known gene prediction programs.

  • In planning phase of Public Multi-Housing Projects, it is required to develop the methodology and criteria for fair cost prediction with influencing power from planning phase to occupancy phase. Many studies still have focused on the prediction of cost by multiple regression. However, there is no logical explanation about the influence of nonmetric variables for the prediction of cost in planning phase. Accordingly, this research pursues a cost prediction model including nonmetric variables for use in planning phase. There are 3 steps of this research : 1) Finding the factors influencing construction cost and assigning variables for a multiple regression. 2) Conducting a dummy regression analysis with nonmetric variables and model validation by comparing actual cost data. 3) Developing the ratio of RC structure cost to wall structure cost by using cost predection model. The results could establish cost prediction process including the influence of nonmetric variables and the ratio of RC structure cost to wall structure cost.

  • Electrical fire in residential, commercial, and industrial areas occupies 40 percent of overall fire accidents as of the year of 1994. The causes of most electrical fires were studied and, based on this investigation, the principle of the early detection or prediction of the electrical fires is developed. The basic principle is to early detect electrical arcs or sparks caused by faulty connections and insulation failures. the structure of the prediction system based on microcontroller technique is presented.

  • This paper presents the wind characteristics of Typhoon Dujuan as measured at a 50 m guyed mast in Hong Kong. The basic wind speed, wind direction and turbulent intensity are studied at two measurement levels of the structure.   • Service life of concrete structures that are exposed to the environmental attack is largely influenced by the corrosion of reinforcing bare due to the chloride contamination. Chloride ions penetrate continuously into concrete from the environment, and chloride diffusion velocity is governed by a mechanical steady stage. In this study, a method is developed to predict corrosion initiation of reinforcing bars in the sea-shore structures, based on governing equations that take into account the diffusing of chloride ions and a mechanical steady state. As a result of this study, Corrosion Prediction System (CPS) is developed, and it can be used to determine an optimal time for repair and rehabilitation actions need to be taken. Futhermore, CPS assists the concrete mixing structures by predicting of chloride concentrations in concrete mixture, exposed to salt concentrations and service environment.

  • The failure of material structures or mechanical system is considered as a direct or indirect result of fatigue. In the design of mechanical structure for estimating of reliability, the prediction of failure life is the most important failure mode to be considered. However, because of a complicated behavior of fatigue in mechanical structure, the analysis of fatigue is in need of much researches on life prediction. This document presents a prediction of fatigue life of the SAPH45 steel, which is extensively for vehicle frame. The method using lethargy coefficient and stress distribution factor at pediction of fatigue life based on the consideration of the failure characteristics from the tensile test should be provided in this study.

Improved Prediction Structure and Motion Estimation Method for Multi-view Video Coding (다시점 비디오 부호화를 위한 개선된 예측 구조와 움직임 추정 기법)

  • Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of multi view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, improved prediction structure and motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. And the proposed motion estimation method uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of modified diamond search pattern, progressive diamond search pattern and modified raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed prediction structure and motion estimation method over JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) reference model using hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI and TZ search method can be up to 40~70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.

Flexible GGOP prediction structure for multi-view video coding (다시점 동영상 부호화를 위한 가변형 다시점GOP 예측 구조)

  • In this paper, we propose a flexible GGOP prediction structure to improve coding efficiency for multi-view video coding. In general, reference software used for MVC uses the fixed GGOP prediction structure. However, the performance of MVC depends on the base view and numbers of B-pictures between I-picture(or P-picture) and P-picture. In order to implement the flexible GGOP prediction structure, the location of base view is decided according to the global disparities among the adjacent sequences. Numbers of B-pictures between I-picture(or P-picture) and P-picture are decided by camera arrangement such as the baseline distance among the cameras. The proposed method shows better result than the reference software of MVC. The proposed prediction structure shows considerable reduction of coded bits by 7.1%.

A Comparison Study of the Prediction Performance of FDS Combustion Model for the Jet Diffusion Flame Structure (제트 확산화염구조에 대한 FDS 연소모델의 예측성능 비교 연구)

  • A prediction performance of Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS) developed by NIST for the diffusion flame structure was validated with experimental results of a laminar slot jet diffusion flame. Two mixture fraction combustion models and two finite chemistry combustion models were used in the FDS simulation for the validation of the jet diffusion flame structure. In order to enhance the prediction performance of flame structure, DNS and radiation model was applied to the simulation. The reaction rates of the finite chemistry combustion models were appropriately adjusted to the diffusion flame. The mixture fraction combustion model predicted the diffusion flame structure reasonably. A 1-step finite chemistry combustion model cannot predict the flame structure well, but the simulation results of a 2-step model were in good agreement with those of experiment except $CO_2$ concentration. It was identified that the 2-step model can be used in the investigation of flame suppression limit with further adjustment of reaction rates

Incorporating ground motion effects into Sasaki and Tamura prediction equations of liquefaction-induced uplift of underground structures

  • In metropolitan areas, the quantity and density of the underground structure increase rapidly in recent years. Even though most damage incidents of the underground structure were minor, there were still few incidents causing a great loss in lives and economy. Therefore, the safety evaluation of the underground structure becomes an important issue in the disaster prevention plan. Liquefaction induced uplift is one important factor damaging the underground structure. In order to perform a preliminary evaluation on the safety of the underground structure, simplified prediction equations were introduced to provide a first order estimation of the liquefaction induced uplift. From previous studies, the input motion is a major factor affecting the magnitude of the uplift. However, effects of the input motion were not studied and included in these equations in an appropriate and rational manner. In this article, a numerical simulation approach (FLAC program with UBCSAND model) is adopted to study effects of the input motion on the uplift. Numerical results show that the uplift and the Arias Intensity (Ia) are closely related. A simple modification procedure to include the input motion effects in the Sasaki and Tamura prediction equation is proposed in this article for engineering practices.
