The Technical Trend and Future Development Direction of Machine Tools Feed Drive System by Patent Mapping (특허분석을 통한 공작기계 이송계의 기술 현황과 발전방향)

  • Feed drive systems are used to position the machine tool components carrying the cutting tool and workpiece to the desired location. Hence, their positioning accuracy and speed determine the quality and productivity of machine tools. In this paper, technical trend of machine tools feed drive systems are analyzed by patent mapping. And this paper suggested future development direction of feed drive systems. The analysis is carried out by using problem solution map (PSM) for the applied patent during January 2000 and December 2009 in Korea, Japan, EU and U.S.A.

  • When we cut a key way on the axial or on the boss, we generally use a slotter or a broach. To do the key seating, turing operations have to be preceded and then the key on the axial or on the boss can be seated. For this reason, the production process of key way cutting becomes complicated. If is necessary to simplify the process and we have developed a small practical machine for key way cutting. The machine is located on the carriage of the lathe. Using this small and practical key way machine, after operation the turing, you do not have to remove the workpiece from the chuck of the lathe to carry on the key seating process. The developed machine will save cutting time and the cost.

  • The Accuracy of a free-form artifact is affected by machine tool errors, machining process errors, environmental causes and other uncertainty. This paper deals with methodological approach about machine tool errors that are defined the relationship between CMM and OMM inspections of the free-form artifact. In order to analyze the measurement data, Reverse engineering was used. In other words, Surface of Free-Form Artifact is generated by NURBS surface approximation method. Finally, Volumetric error map is made to compare surface of CMM data with that of OMM data.

  • The use of error compensation techniques has been recognized as an effective way in the improvement of the accuracy of a machine tool. The laser measurement method for identifying position errors of machine tool has the disadvantages such as high cost, long calibration time and usage of volumetric error synthesis model. Accordingly, this paper deals with analysis of the position errors of a machine tool using ball bar test without using complicated error synthesis model. Statistical analysis method was adopted in this paper for deriving position errors using hemispherical helix ball bar test.

  • In this paper, an OMM (On-the-Machine Measuring) system has been developed, which can perform measuring and inspection of sculptured surfaces of die and mold, by use of a scanning-type touch probe mounted into the spindle of a NC machine. The calibration procedures of a scanning prove (SP2-1, Renishaw) and an algorithm for measuring surface points by a ball-nosed stylus have been studied. The system has been developed based on commercial CAM software (Z-Master 2000), and tested through measuring a plastic injection molding-die. Also some experimental results of the calibration and measuring for given surface positions are analyzed to verify its accuracy and reliability.

  • This paper presents the design and the evaluation of the 6-component force/moment calibration machine which h a s t h e maximum capacities of 500 N in forces and 50 Nm in moments. This calibration machine consists of body. fixture. force generating system, moment generating system. The expanded uncertainty of the calibration machine is evaluated by calculating the A type uncertainty. $U_A$ and B type uncertainty, $U_B$. The evaluation results. this system has the expanded uncertainty of less than $2{\times}10^[-2]$ in respective force and moment components.

  • A remote data communication system for monitoring of NC machine fault diagnosis and status is developed. This system communicates with host PC by using dial-up communication method on PSTN. The developed system consists of (1)remote communication module among NC's and host PC using PSTN, (2) 8 channels analog data sensing module, (3) digital I/O module for control of NC machine, (4) communication module between NC machine and remote data communication system using RS-232c, and (5) Software man-machine interface. This system may be applied for remote sensing of the status in Fms. To show the veridity of the developed system, several examples are illustrated.

  • To order to remain competitive, a manufacturing company need to maintain the optimal condition of its manufacturing system. Machine tools as an important element of a manufacturing system comprises complex mechanical as well as electronic components. So, diagnosing the troubles of machine tools is tricky process which requires a lot of experience and knowledge. Since providing machine tool users with necessary serices at the right time is very difficult,a remote diagnosis system is to be regarded as a good alternative, with which users can diagnose and fix the machine troubles. This paper presents a method to implement a remote machine tool diagnosis system using the world wide web technology and backward reasoning expert system.

  • The conventional CNC(Computerized Numerical Controller) of machine tool, which is dependent to CNC maker, was a closed architecture type. Therefore, it is impossible to implement a special user-define function to CNC. But recently, CNC is changed to OAC(Open Architecture Controller) type increasingly and the general function of CNC can be upgrade efficiently. This paper describes web service application for remote monitoring regarding the faults or machine tool with open architecture CNC. The major faults of CNC machine tool can be defined to the operational faults to be charged over 70%. Those faults are unpredictable because of being occurred without any warning. To generalize the fault diagnosis efficiently. two diagnosis models such as SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) are proposed and the function of fault diagnosis is implemented to internal function of OAC. Also, to service remotely the faults of CNC machine tool. the suitable web environment is proposed and practical function is programmed to evaluate its operation on web.

  • Micro-machine tool is essential in the micro/meso cutting for the sake of saving of space, resources, and energy. In this research, a micro-turning lathe was fabricated with piezoelectric feed drive mechanism, and motion of each axis was generated by stepwise mechanism with two piezo actuators. The resolution to drive the axis was $0.05{\mu}m$ and position accuracy less than $2{\mu}m$ was assured. From the positioning experiment, piezo feed mechanism is good enough for the micro machine tools. Many fuming experiments were carried out with diamond-cutting tools to evaluate cutting capability of a machine tool. Continuous flow type chip could be obtained even if the cutting speed was very low due to small diameter of workpiece. However, thorough investigation about machineability in micro/meso cutting is inevitable to assure high quality surface roughness in micro machine tool.
