Detection of Gradual Transitions in MPEG Compressed Video using Hidden Markov Model (은닉 마르코프 모델을 이용한 MPEG 압축 비디오에서의 점진적 변환의 검출)

  • Video segmentation is a fundamental task in video indexing and it includes two kinds of shot change detections such as the abrupt transition and the gradual transition. The abrupt shot boundaries are detected by computing the image-based distance between adjacent frames and comparing this distance with a pre-determined threshold value. However, the gradual shot boundaries are difficult to detect with this approach. To overcome this difficulty, we propose the method that detects gradual transition in the MPEG compressed video using the HMM (Hidden Markov Model). We take two different HMMs such as a discrete HMM and a continuous HMM with a Gaussian mixture model. As image features for HMM's observations, we use two distinct features such as the difference of histogram of DC images between two adjacent frames and the difference of each individual macroblock's deviations at the corresponding macroblock's between two adjacent frames, where deviation means an arithmetic difference of each macroblock's DC value from the mean of DC values in the given frame. Furthermore, we obtain the DC sequences of P and B frame by the first order approximation for a fast and effective computation. Experiment results show that we obtain the best detection and classification performance of gradual transitions when a continuous HMM with one Gaussian model is taken and two image features are used together.

Usefulness of Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide (SPIO) as a Negative Oral Contrast Agent in MR Cholangiopancreatography (자기공명 담관췌장초영술에서 음성 경구 조영제로 사용한 초상자성 산화철 제재의 유용성)

  • Purpose : To evaluate value of superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) as a negative oral contrast agent in MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP). Materials and methods : Forty-eight patients with suspected biliary tract or pancreatic diseases and six healthy volunteers were enrolled in this study. All MR images were obtained using a 1.5 T MR unit. MR-CP using fat-suppressed half-Fourier acquisition single-shot turbo spin echo (HASTE) and turbo spin echo (TSE) techniques were performed and reconstructed with maximal intensity projection (MIP). To determine the most optimal concentration of SPIO to obliterate the high signal intensity of water, a phantom experiment was conducted with various concentrations of SPIO-water mixture. Two radiologists evaluated pre- and postcontrast MRCPS. The contrast enhancement was assessed on the basis of loss of signal intensity in the stomach and duodenum. Results : In the phantom experiment, a significant increase of percentage of signal intensity loss (PSIL) occurred in concentration of 22.4 ugFe/ml (Feridex1 ml diluted with water 500 ml). Postcontrast MRCP showed an improved image quality compared with precontrast images. The rate of improvement in the diagnosis of diseases of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct was 25% (12/48). Conclusion : In patients with suspected biliary tract and pancreatic diseases, the SPIO is useful as a negative oral contrast agent for MRCP and provides an improvement of image quality.

  • The construction of hyperspectral test-bed dataset is essential for the effective performance of hyperspectral image for various applications. In this study, we analyzed the technical points for generating of optimal hyperspectral test-bed site for hyperspectral sensors and the efficiency of hyperspectral test-bed site. In this regard regions we analyzed existing construction techniques for generating test-bed site in domestic and foreign, and designed the test-bed site to acquire images from the airborne hyperspectral sensor. To produce a reference data from the image of constructed test-bed site, this study applied vicarious correction as a pre-processing and analyzed its efficiency. The result presented that it was ideal to use tarp for the vicarious correction, but it is possible to use the materials with constant spectral reflectance or with relatively low variance of spectral reflectance. The test-bed data taken in this study can be employed as the reference of domestic and foreign studies for hyperspectral image processing.

Quantitative Analysis of Antioxidants in Korean Pomegranate Husk (Granati pericarpium) Cultivated in Different Site (HPLC에 의한 산지별 한국산 석류과피 중 항산화화합물의 함량분석)

  • The quantitative analytical method for major antioxidants, ellagic acid and punicalagin, in pomegranate husk (Granati pericarpium) were established by HPLC. The optimal HPLC conditions were as follows: Column; Agilent Zorbax Eclipse XDB-C18 ($4.6{\times}150mm,\;5{\mu}m$), mobile phase; 1% formic acid in water (A) and 1% formic acid in MeCN (B) (gradient elution of 5% to 100% B for 50 min), flow rate; 0.8 ml/min., detection; UV 254 nm. The optimal pre-treatment conditions for HPLC analysis were as follows: 5 g of pomegranate husk in 100 ml of 95% EtOH, refluxed for 3 h. Under these analytical conditions, punicalagin and ellagic acid contents in Korean pomegranates husks which were cultivated in five different sites were determined. As results, the ellagic acid and punicalagin (as a mixture of ${\alpha-\;and\;{\beta}-anomer$) contents were the highest in Haepyung pomegranate husk $(15.27{\mu}g/mg)$ and Jangsung pomegranate husk $(16.21{\mu}g/mg)$, respectively.

Characterization of Cement Waste Form for Final Disposal of Decommissioned Concrete Waste (해체 콘크리트 폐기물 최종처분을 위한 시멘트 고화체 특성 평가)

  • Since the decommissioning of nuclear plants and facilities, large quantities of slightly contaminated concrete waste have been generated. In Korea, the decontamination and decommissioning of the KRR-1, 2 at the KAERI have been under way. And concrete waste was generated about 800 drums of 200 L. The conditioning of concrete waste is needed for final disposal. The concrete waste is conditioned as follows: mortar using coarse and fine aggregates is filled void space after concrete rubble pre-placement into 200 L drum. Thus, this research has developed an optimizing mixing ratio of concrete waste, water, and cement and has evaluated characteristics of a cement waste form to meet the requirements specified in disposal site specific waste acceptance criteria. The results obtained from compressive strength test, leaching test, thermal cycling test of cement waste forms conclude that the concrete waste, water, and cement have been suggested to have 75:15:10wt% as the optimized mixing ratio. Also, the compressive strength of cement waste form was satisfied that including fine powder up to maximum 40wt% in concrete debris wastes about 75%. As a result of scale-up test, the mixture of concrete waste, water, and cement is 75:10:15wt% meet the satisfied compressive strength because the free water increased with and increased in particle size.

  • Downsizing is widely applied to diesel engines in order to improve fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust emissions. Engine sizes are becoming smaller but pressure and temperature inside combustion chambers are increasing. Therefore, research for fuel spray under high pressure and temperature conditions is important. A constant volume chamber which simulates high temperature and pressure likely to be found in diesel engines was developed in this study. Pressure and temperature were increased abruptly because of ignition of the pre-mixture in the constant volume chamber. Then pressure and temperature were gradually decreased due to the heat loss through the chamber wall. Fuel spray occurred when temperature and pressure were reached at the target condition. In this experiment, the temperature condition should be exactly defined to understand the relation between fuel evaporation and ambient temperature. A fast response thermocouple was developed and used to measure the temporal and spatial temperature distribution during the combustion process inside the combustion chamber. In the results, the core temperature was slightly higher than the bulk temperature calculated by the gas equation. Ed-note: do you want to say 'ideal gas equation'? This was attributed to the heat transfer loss through the chamber wall. The vertical temperature deviation was higher than the horizontal temperature deviation by 5% which resulted from the buoyancy effect.

Biocontrol Activity of Myxococcus sp. KYC 1126 against Phytophthora Blight on Hot Pepper (점액세균 Myxococcus sp. KYC 1126을 이용한 고추 역병 생물학적 방제 효능)

  • Bacteriolytic myxobacteria have been known to secrete various antifungal metabolites against several soilborne phytopathogens including Phytophthora. Among the three isolates of Myxococcus spp., KYC 1126 and KYC 1136 perfectly inhibited the mycelial growth of Phytophtora capsici in vitro. In order to show the biocontrol activity on Phytophthora blight of hot pepper, we tried to find the best way of application of a myxobacterial isolate. Although KYC 1126 fruiting body was easily grown on the colony of Escherichia coli as a nutrient source, it did not control the disease when it was pre-applied in soil. Before the bioassay of a liquid culture filtrate of KYC 1126 was conducted, its antifungal activity was confirmed on the seedlings applying with the mixture of the pathogen's zoospore suspension and KYC 1126 filtrate. On greenhouse experiments with five and four replications, the control value of KYC 1126 on phyllosphere and rhizosphere was 88% and 36%, respectively. Whereas, the control value of dimetnomorph+propineb on phyllosphere was 100% and that of propamorcarb on rhizosphere was 44%. There was a phytotoxicity of the myxobacterial filtrate when seedlings were washed and soaked for 24 hours. Gummy materials were covered with roots. And stem and petiole were constricted, then a whole seedling was eventually blighted.

Effects of Molasses at Different Levels in Concentrate Supplement on Milk Yield of Dairy Cows Grazing Setaria Grass (Setaria Sphacelata) Pasture in Fiji

  • Effects of different levels of molasses in a concentrate supplement on milk yield of cows grazing Setaria grass pastures were investigated. Thirty Friesian cows, 6-7 years old with mean pre-experimental body weight of $428{\pm}6.5$ kg, in early stage of lactation were randomly allotted to five dietary treatments in a completely randomized design experiment that lasted for 126 days. Experimental dietary treatments were forage alone and forage/concentrate mixtures with molasses included at 0, 5, 10 or 15% levels designated as $T_1$, $T_2$, $T_3$, $T_4$ and $T_5$, respectively. The parameters studied were voluntary dry matter (DM) intake, average daily live weight change (LWC), milk yield, body condition score (BCS) and apparent nutrient digestibility coefficients. The DM and energy contents of Setaria grass were low compared to the concentrate diets. Fibre fractions-NDF, ADF, ADL, hemicellulose and cellulose; and gross energy were higher in concentrate mixtures than in the forage. Total DM intake (forage+concentrate mixtures) was significantly higher (p<0.001) in cows on the concentrate mixtures. LWC was not significantly different (p>0.05) between the cows. Average milk yields were significantly different (p<0.05) between cows. Fat corrected milk (FCM) was similar among cows in the treatments. BCS was better (p<0.001) in cows on concentrate mixtures. Digestibilities of DM, CP, NDF, ADF, ADL, OM, and energy were significantly higher (p<0.001) in cows on $T_2$, $T_3$, $T_4$ and $T_5$ than in those on $T_1$. There were no significant differences in the digestibility of DM, CP, NDF, ADF and ADL (p>0.001) in cows on concentrate mixtures. This study therefore demonstrated that lactating dairy cows in Fiji need a level of readily fermented energy source such as molasses in their diets; however, a level above 10% is not nutritionally suitable for lactating dairy cows. Based on data on production parameters-milk yield, fat corrected milk, body condition score and apparent nutrient digestibility coefficients-molasses levels that range between 5-10% are recommended, however, 10% is the best and therefore recommended for inclusion in the concentrate mixture of lactating dairy cows on a basal diet of Setaria sphacelata in Fiji.

Efficient Diagnosis of Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus in Watermelon Using RT-PCR and Cloning of Coat Protein Gene (RT-PCR을 이용한 수박 Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus의 효율적인 진단 및 외피단백질 유전자의 클로닝)

  • A simple and reliable method to diagnose cucumber green mottle mosaic virus of watermelon in Korea (CGMMV-WK) was determined by RT-PCR, and coat protein gene for CGMMV-WK was cloned. Comparing to a method reported by Lee et al. (1996), the method developed here showed a better RT-PCR reaction. RT-PCR was possible by one step in the PCR reaction mixture that contains 20 pmol of primer, reverse transcriptase (30 unit), RNasin (5 unit) using the crude RNA solution. RT-PCR condition for specifically diagnosing CGMMV-WK was that cDNA was synthesized at 42$^{\circ}C$ for 45 min followed by pre-denaturation at 95$^{\circ}C$ for 2 min, and then PCR reaction was carried out with a programmed condition that consisted of 36 sequential cycles at 96$^{\circ}C$ for 30 sec, 6$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 sec, and 72$^{\circ}C$ for 1 min. A gene encoding the coat protein of CGMMV-WK was cloned and characterized. Nucleotide sequence of coat protein gene of CGMMV-WK shared 98.77% and 99.38% of sequence identity with those of CGMMV-W and CGMMV-SH, respecitvely, however, all of amino acid sequences were same.

Mechanical Properties of Strain Hardening Cement-Based Composite (SHCC) with Recycled Materials (자원순환형 재료를 사용한 변형경화형 시멘트 복합체(SHCC)의 역학적 특성)

  • This paper describes results of an preliminary study to produce strain hardening cement-based composites (SHCCs)with consideration of sustainability for infrastructure applications. The aims of this study are to evaluate the influence of recycled materials on the mechanical characteristics of SHCCs, such as compressive, four-point bending, and direct tensile behaviors, and to give basic data for constitutive model for analyzing and designing infra structures with SHCCs. In this study, silica sand, cement, and PVA fibers, were partially replaced with recycled sand, fly-ash, and FET fibers in the mixture of SHCCs, respectively. Test results indicated that fly-ash could improve both bending and direct tensile performance of SHCCs due to increasing chemical bond strength at the interface between PVA fibers and cement matrices. However, SHCCs replaced with PET fibers showed much lower performance in bending and direct tensile tests due to originally low mechanical properties of own fibers, although compressive behavior is similar to PVA2.0 specimen. Also, it was noted that the recycled sand would increase elastic modulus of SHCCs due to larger grain size compared to silica sand. Based on pre-set target value to maintain the performance of SHCCs, it was concluded that the replacement ratio below 20% of fly-ash or below 50% of recycled sands would be desirable for creating sustainable SHCCs.
