  • Background: 6-year College of Pharmacy curriculum had started in Korea, and the students in college of pharmacy are supposed to have student practice in the hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmaceutical company and administration to experience the role of pharmacists in advance. However, despite Korean Association of Pharmacy Education provided its own teaching plan, most Pharmacy Schools and the hospital pharmacy have difficulty in performing the desirable student practice program because they seldom experienced it. So, we reported the student practice program in the hospital pharmacy conducted by Yonsei University College of Pharmacy prior to the other numerous universities and the evaluation of survey on the student pharmacy practice program. Method: Severance Hospital, Gangnam Severance Hospital and National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital took part in the student pharmacy practice program of Yonsei University. Students took 8-week pharmacy practice in Severance Hospital or Gangnam Severance Hospital plus 4-week pharmacy practice in National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital. Also, students had once-a-week presentation class at school. A survey was conducted to evaluate the student practice program. Results: The presentation class was considerably helpful to share their own experiences at different practice sites in different hospitals, but there were some disadvantages that students could not experience the specific pharmacy practice site on the day of once-a-week presentation at school and so on. The results of the survey on the student practice program reported that students were satisfied with the overall practice program and presentation class at school. Also, they answered that the student practice program in the hospital pharmacy was significantly helpful for planning of the future career. Conclusion: Through the performance of the student practice program in Yonsei University, the adjustment of the student practice program in the hospital is planned to provide better experience of practice to the students and the results will be helpful for the student practice in the hospital of the other colleges of pharmacy.

  • This study investigated the degree of knowledge achievement and self-confidence in aseptic technique as a part of the fundamental nursing practice classes. The subjects were 220 nursing students in a junior college in Chonnam and an applied Quasi-experimental research methodology was used thirty of them comprised an experimental group to examine learning according to the teaching method. Wata were collected over 80 days, from April to June 1988, analyzed using descriptive statistics, percentages, means, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with the SAS program. The conclusions are as follows. 1. The mean score of the degree of knowledge achievement of aseptic technique of the 220 students was 0.68(possible score 1.0) before the lecture but was 0.88 after lecture(p=.000). 2. The mean score for aseptic technique of the 220 students was 3.41(possible score 5.0) before practice but was 4.27 after practice(p=.000). 3. The correlation of self-confidence before and after practice was relatively low(r=.25, p=.000). 4. The mean score of the degree of knowledge achievement of aseptic technique in the experimental group(selected 30 students) was 0.72 before the lecture but was 0.90 after the lecture. 5. The mean score of self-confidence on aseptic technique in the experimental group(selected 30 students) was 3.18 before practice but was 4.32 after practice(p=.000). 6. The mean score of learning according to the type of teaching to aseptic technique for the experimental group(selected 30 students) was 23.2(possibel score 34) after lecture and presentation, was 27.3 after learning through video tape, was 31.7 after presentation through practice, was 33.7 after first practical training, and was 34 after secondary practical training. As a result of this study, learning methods in the education of fundamental nursing skill effective for knowledge achievement and competence in practicing skill.

Method: A comparison group design was established with pre-clinical practice group (n=34) and post-clinical practice group (n=34). Both groups participated in simulation-based training before or after the clinical practice at the recovery room. Chi-square test, t-test and paired t-test were performed to analyze the data. Results: Both groups showed significantly higher post-test scores in knowledge and self-efficacy than pre-test scores (p<.001). The group with simulation training performed before their clinical practice (pre-clinical practice group) showed significantly higher self-efficacy (p=.044) than the group with simulation training done after their clinical practice (post-clinical practice group). However, there was no significant difference in the knowledge (p=.922) and clinical performance (p=.887). Conclusion: These findings of the study suggest that simulation based training in pre-clinical practice is effective to enhance the self-efficacy and to improve knowledge and clinical performance of the nursing students.
