An Ecological Approach to Physical Education Students' Drop-out and Opt-out at Graduate School of Education about Teacher Appointment Examination of Secondary School (교육대학원 체육교육전공 학생들이 경험하는 임용시험 중도포기 및 탈락에 대한 생태학적 접근)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore factors that physical education graduate students in graduate school of education drop out of teacher appointment examination of secondary school by using Ecological Model. The in-depth interview was conducted for 10 physical education graduate students studying in school of education. As an aspect of the intrapersonal component, the effort to apply how participants'current job positively affects their preparation for teacher appointment examination is required and they need to clearly decide academic priorities to prepare for teacher appointment examination. As an aspect of interpersonal component, participants are negatively affected by subjective norm, thereby providing personalized mentoring program is required. As an aspect of organizational component, limited tuition support and inappropriate place to study are emphasized, so practical helps like sports practice instructor or teacher appointment examination preparation class is required. Finally, this study suggests the introduction of integrated system for teacher appointment examination.

Imperfect Correlation of Mammographic and Clinical Breast Tissue Density

  • Background: Clinicians determine degree of mammographic density based on tissue firmness on breast examination. The study aimed to compare breast density in mammography and clinical breast examination. Materials and Methods: Six-hundred sixty three women 40 years of age or older were studied. The breast exam density was graded from 1 to 4 by two expert surgeons and the mammographic parenchymal density by two expert radiologists. Then for practical reasons, grades 1 and 2 were considered as low-density and grades 3 and 4 as high-density. Results: High and low densities were detected in 84.5% and 15.5% of clinical breast examinations and 59.7% and 40.3% of mammographies, respectively. The statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the breast tissue densities in breast examination with those in mammography. Conclusions: A clinically dense breast does not necessarily imply a dense mammographic picture.

A study of the opening status of the compulsory courses for the dental technologist license (치기공(학)과 교육과정에서 국가시험 과목의 학년 및 학기별 개설 현황 비교)

  • Purpose: This is to provide fundamental resources for the improvement in the department of dental technology curriculum which will ensure effective preparation for the license examination for dental technicians as well as improvement in the students practical skills. Methods: Research analysis was conducted regarding the 2020 academic curriculum table of the department of dental technology established in 19 universities nationwide, from 5th of October 2020 to 30th of November 2020. Results: Research of the ratio of the establishment credit of the 3-year-course major in department of dental technology to the establishment credits of the license examination subjects showed, second semester of the first year (p<0.05), by academic discipline the whole first year (p<0.05) and second semester of first year, to be statistically significant. Conclusion: Hence, it can be concluded that there is a need for the management of a curriculum with distribution of adequate subjects according to academic year and semester, in order to satisfy not only the preparation for the license examination for dental technicians, but also students' academic desires.

A study on the improvement for expertise of the Korean fishing vessel officer license examination (전문성 향상을 위한 어선항해사 면허시험 개선 방안)

  • In this study, an improvement plan was derived by statistically analyzing the system and current status of tests in Korea and survey of seafarers perception in order to improve the expertise of the Korean fishing vessel officer examination. Recently, about 70% of marine accident occurs from fishing vessels. Therefore, it's necessary to improve the examination to reduce marine accidents. As a result, it was identified that an average of 29,265 applicants have applied over the past four years, and among them, 1,833 people have applied for fishing vessel licenses, accounting for 6.3% of the total. According to the result of explanation and response of 115 people, they responded that practical utilization was low, each operation waters has different requirements and it's necessary to improve the contents of the questions for the specialty subject. In addition, inappropriate questions were found in previous exams. To reduce marine accidents caused by human error and to improve the professionalism of fishing vessel officers, it is necessary to adjust the test criteria and ratio with characteristics of fishing vessels and in the long run, institutional improvements such as the distinction between test subjects and licenses are needed.

Survey research to implement a job-based national practical exam for dental technicians (치과기공사의 직무기반 국가 실기시험 실행을 위한 조사 연구)

  • Purpose: This study proposes measures needed to implement a job-based national practical exam for dental technicians. Methods: For this study, a survey was conducted targeting 244 currently employed individuals. The current national practical test for dental technicians was divided into directions for the job-based practical test, subjects that need improvement among the current practical test subjects, items that need to be reflected in the practical test evaluation for each subject, and subjects that need to be added to the practical test. It comprised ten questions (Cronbach's α=0.801). Results: The following results were obtained. Satisfaction with the current practical test was lower than average. Future improvement should focus on job-based evaluation. The dental ceramic lab technology subject needs to be reorganized urgently, and the tasks that require evaluation for each subject are different. Moreover, if evaluation subjects are added in the future, the introduction of assessment for dental CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) subjects was found to be the most urgent. Conclusion: In this study, the most necessary tasks of the current national practical examination for dental technicians were evaluated and the content needed for future reorganization was investigated. Future tests should be expanded to evaluate critical job areas. Furthermore, it is necessary to open new courses in fields such as CAD/CAM, as they are in high demand in the workplace.

Student Satisfaction Study and Interrater Comparative Study on Patient-Physician Interaction Score of Clinical Performance Examination in Korean Medical Education (한의학 교육에서 진료수행평가에 대한 학생 만족도 및 환자 - 의사관계 점수의 채점자간 비교 연구)

  • As for medical education, not only acquirement of knowledge but also practical clinical competence is important because it is needed on primary medicine. Under this trend, Clinical Performance Examination(CPX) is already being practiced in medical college. But in spite of its importance, CPX is not yet practiced in Korean medical college. So, by contemplating necessity and outcome of CPX, We try to offer basic data for future imposition and improvement of CPX in Korean medical education. 49 students of grade 3 in a Daejeon Korean Medical College were targets of investigation. After educated about CPX in advance, They treated simulated patient and answered questionnaire about CPX. Then, their treatment was scored by Professor and simulated patients. Total 49 members responded to the survey and the results of the analysis were as follows. The answer that CPX is useful(Mean=4.12) and essential for acquiring professionalism of treatment(Mean=4.02) was got high scores. But many respondents replied about necessity of better CPX environment and felt difficulty about PPI(45%). Meanwhile, Professor group(Mean=9.24) tended to give more high score than Simulated patient group(Mean=7.94). This study can be very useful for composing basic data of CPX in Korean medical College and improving practical clinical competence of students. But this study has also some limits like area, respondent selection, group module etc. So, more detailed and comprehensive survey is needed. Plans for Integrating Health Care Personnel between the Two Koreas (남북한 보건의료인력의 통합방안 연구)

  • In preparing for the unification of North and South Korea, rather than unilaterally over-writing the North's human resource training system with the South's health care human resource development system, it is important to understand the North's system and its ecology and to achieve a balance by seeking out aspects of each of the systems that could be consolidated with each other. The training period in both the North and South's health care human resource development systems is specified to be 6 years, but there is no system for internships or residencies in the North. South Korea introduced a 6-year system for pharmacist education in 2009, but North Korea has been using such a system since the 1970s (currently 5.5 years). In North Korea, training of health care personnel is conducted at various levels: at universities, at vocational schools, and at institutes for training health officials. Various types of training (daytime training, online, and ad hoc programs) are carried out. Also of interest is the North's licensure examination system. Rather than a state examination system as in South Korea, the North favors a graduation exam given by a national graduation examination committee composed of university professors, which awards both graduation certificates and 'permits,' that is, licenses for doctors and pharmacists. In working out a plan for the integration of the two Koreas' systems based on the study and analysis of the North's educational and testing system for doctors and pharmacists, this paper does not place exclusive focus on the distinctions between the systems or cling to negative views. Rather than claim that unification/integration is a practical impossibility, the paper focuses on the similarities between the two systems and maximizes them to uncover an approach for arriving at solutions. It is hoped that the practical data offered in this paper can contribute to the design of a forward-minded unification/integration model.

A Study on the Attitude toward Medical Institutions and its Influence on Health Seeking Behaviour (의료기관(醫療器關)에 대(對)한 태도(態度)가 의료(醫療) 추구행위(追究行爲)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • In general, patients' health seeking behaviours can be affected by three factors ; psychological factor, economic factor and health delivery system. This study was focused on how the psychological factor affect to health seeking behaviour influenced by the various attitude of residents toward medical resources in their community. A total of 306 households were sampled for the investigation among residents of Banwol-Eup which was an industrial city newly developed. The data has been collected by interview method using close ended questionnaire. The major findings are ; 1) the respondents' attitude toward medical institutions in their community has shown negative responses (rate of negative attitude (a) 81.3%- facilities (b) 40.7% medical expenses (c) 21.1%-kindness of employees of medical facilities (d)59.0%- the degree of thorough explanation to patient on medical examination (e) 58.2%-doctors' practical competency). Above all, they have shown negative response on doctors explanation on results of medical examination and doctors' practical competency. 2) The study indicated a significant difference in health seeking behaviour between the group of positive attitude and that of negative attitude. 3) A big difference between the above mentioned two groups was identified as the attitude toward sub dimension of practical competency.

A Survey on the Adequacy of Question Items of the Chemistry Teacher Employment Examination (중등 과학교사 임용시험 중 화학영역 문항의 적절성과 개선 방안에 대한 조사)

  • A survey has been administered to investigate the adequacy of the chemistry teacher employment examination. The questionnaires were sent to the professors of the fourteen departments of chemistry education all over the nation and the responses were collected from the thirteen departments. From the analyses of the responses, the problems were pointed out and the suggestions were made for the improvement of the examination to recruit excellent chemistry teachers. Reconsideration of the ratio of subject matter education to subject contents, adjustment of format and number of questions, maintaining of proper degree of difficulty and discrimination of items, reconsideration of relevancy to practical education, raising the number of committee for the examination, the reflection of the 7th science curriculum, and opening to the public of the information related to the teacher employment examination were discussed.

Exploring the Predictive Factors of Passing the Korean Physical Therapist Licensing Examination (한국 물리치료사 국가 면허시험 합격 여부의 예측요인 탐색)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to establish a model of the predictive factors for success or failure of examinees undertaking the Korean physical therapist licensing examination (KPTLE). Additionally, we assessed the pass/fail cut-off point. Methods : We analyzed the results of 10,881 examinees who undertook the KPTLE, using data provided by the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute. The target variable was the test result (pass or fail), and the input variables were: sex, age, test subject, and total score. Frequency analysis, chi-square test, descriptive statistics, independent t-test, correlation analysis, binary logistic regression, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed on the data. Results : Sex and age were not significant predictors of attaining a pass (p>.05). The test subjects with the highest probability of passing were, in order, medical regulation (MR) (Odds ratio (OR)=2.91, p<.001), foundations of physical therapy (FPT) (OR=2.86, p<.001), diagnosis and evaluation for physical therapy (DEPT) (OR=2.74, p<.001), physical therapy intervention (PTI) (OR=2.66, p<.001), and practical examination (PE) (OR=1.24, p<.001). The cut-off points for each subject were: FPT, 32.50; DEPT, 29.50; PTI, 44.50; MR, 14.50; and PE, 50.50. The total score (TS) was 164.50. The sensitivity, specificity, and the classification accuracy of the prediction model was 99 %, 98 %, and 99 %, respectively, indicating high accuracy. Area under the curve (AUC) values for each subject were: FPT, .958; DEPT, .968; PTI, .984; MR, .885; PE, .962; and TS, .998, indicating a high degree of fit. Conclusion : In our study, the predictive factors for passing KPTLE were identified, and the optimal cut-off point was calculated for each subject. Logistic regression was adequate to explain the predictive model. These results will provide universities and examinees with useful information for predicting their success or failure in the KPTLE.
