Investigation on the Powering Performance Prediction for Azimuth Thrusters

  • Recently, the application of the electric propulsion system becomes popular because of its advantage over conventional propulsion. However, the complicated flow mechanism and interaction around the azimuth thruster are not fully understood yet, and the studies on the powering performance characteristics with azimuth/pod thrusters are now in progress. The experimental method developed in KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering) is introduced and the results of the powering performance tests, consisting of resistance, self-propulsion and propeller open water tests for a cable layer with two azimuth thrusters are presented. For the analysis of powering performance with azimuth thrusters, it is necessary to evaluate the thrust/drag for components of a thruster unit, Extrapolation results could differ according to the various definitions of the propulsion unit; that is the pod, thruster leg and/or nozzle can be treated as hull appendages or as part of propulsion unit, The powering performances based on several definitions are investigated for this vessel. The results of the measurements for the 3-dimensional velocity distribution on the propeller plane are presented to understand the basis of the difference in propulsion characteristics due to the propeller rotational directions.

  • TCMS(Train Control & Management System) control monitor and test the main on-board equipments including propulsion/brake unit by the serial transmission line. TCMS reduces interface circuits and number of train lines by the software logic and utilizing serial communication method. This paper describes the method of powering and braking control by TCMS software logic, and the software logic is verified by running test at Seoul Subway Line# 6. By running test result, we can see TCMS successfully control Powering/Braking of train

  • TCMS(Train Control & Management System) is the management system of train information which intensively control, monitor and test the main on-board equipments including propulsion/brake unit by the serial transmission line. TCMS reduces interface circuits and number of train lines by the software logic and utilizing serial communication method. This paper describes the method of powering and braking control by TCMS software logic, in comparison with the powering/braking control by conventional relay logic/hardwire circuits, and the software logic was verified by simulation test with TCMS simulator.

2,5000톤급 삼동선의 저항추진특성 (Powering Performance Characteristics of 2,5000 Ton Class Trimaran)

  • 본 논문에서는 2,500톤급 삼동형 호위구축함의 선형설계와 저항추진특성에 대한 연구 결과를 보인다. 보조선체의 형상과 그 설치 위치가 삼동선의 저항성능에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 일련의 저항시험과 수치계산을 수행하였다. 그리고 삼동선의 추진효율을 조사하기 위하여 추진시험을 수행하였으며, 실선 크기에서 삼동선과 유사 단동선들의 저항추진성능을 비교하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 보조선체의 길이 방향 위치가 삼동선의 저항특성에 큰 영향을 미치며, 보조선체의 형상과 폭 방향의 위치는 그 영향이 작은 것을 알 수 있었다. 보조선체의 중심이 길이 방향으로 주선체의 선수나 선미 가까운 곳에 설치될 때 삼동선의 저항성능이 우수한 결과를 보였는데, 이는 주선체로부터 생성된 가장 큰 선수파의 파저에 보조선체의 선수가 놓이는 곳이다. 그리고, 삼동선의 저항추진성능은 유사 단동선에 비하여 중속 이상의 구간에서 우수한 결과를 보였다.

Application of Monte Carlo simulations to uncertainty assessment of ship powering prediction by the 1978 ITTC method

  • The present study concerns uncertainty assessment of powering prediction from towing tank model tests, suggested by the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC). The systematic uncertainty of towing tank tests was estimated by allowance of test setup and measurement accuracy of ITTC. The random uncertainty was varied from 0 to 8% of the measurement. Randomly generated inputs of test conditions and measurement data sets under systematic and random uncertainty are used to statistically analyze resistance and propulsive performance parameters at the full scale. The error propagation through an extrapolation procedure is investigated in terms of the sensitivity and coefficient of determination. By the uncertainty assessment, it is found that the uncertainty of resultant powering prediction was smaller than the test uncertainty.

Model-Ship Correlation Study on the Powering Performance for a Large Container Carrier

  • Large container carriers are suffering from lack of knowledge on reliable correlation allowances between model tests and full-scale trials, especially at fully loaded condition, Careful full-scale sea trial with a full loading of containers both in holds and on decks was carried out to clarify it. Model test results were analyzed by different methods but with the same measuring data to figure out appropriated correlations factors for each analysis methods, Even if it is no doubt that model test technique is one of the most reliable tool to predict full scale powering performance, its assumptions and simplifications which have been applied on the course of data manipulation and analysis need a feedback from sea trial data for a fine tuning, so called correlation factor. It can be stated that the best correlation allowances at fully loaded condition for both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional analysis methods are fecund through the careful sea trial results and relevant study on the large size container carriers.

  • In this pater, we have proposed a synthetic main chopper circuit for the chopper controlled electric automobile. The proposed chopper circuit operates as a step-down chopper in powering mode and as a polarity reversion type chopper in regenerative braking mode. In this study, it was found that powering and regenerative braking operations using the separately excited D.C motor can be controlled continuously only by gate signals of the chopper without changing the connection of the circuit.

  • In order to control DC motors for electric cars by chopper system, four quadrant operations - forward powering, forward regenerative braking, reverse powering, reverse regenerative braking - are needed. For the four quadrant operations, the separately - excited DC motors are used in this study. The conversion of each quadrant operation has been obtained by 1) adopting the two phase chopper system with combined output for the armature control, and 2) the single phase chopper system for the field control.

  • 선박의 추진성능 추정을 위한 통계해석 기법을 연구하고 전산 프로그램을 만들었다. 조파저항계수의 추정식은 조파저항이론을 이용하여 스테이션 별 횡단면적계수의 곱으로 표현되도록 도출해 내었고, 이에 대한 회귀계수는 모형시험 결과를 회귀분석하여 얻었다. 형상계수, 반류비 및 추력감소율의 추정식들은 선체 주요지수, 스테이션 별 횡단면적계수 및 모형시험 결과들을 순순하게 회귀분석하여 얻었다. 통계해석은 여러가지 기술통계와 단계별 회귀분석 기법을 적절하게 이용하여 수행하였다. 추진성능 추정 프로그램은 저항계수, 추진계수, 프로펠러 단독효율 및 각종 척도효과 등을 모두 쉽게 수용할 수 있도록 다양하면서도 간결하게 만들었다.
