STUDY OF MILLI-JANSKY SEYFERT GALAXIES WITH STRONG FORBIDDEN HIGH-IONIZATION LINES USING THE VERY LARGE ARRAY SURVEY IMAGES

  • We study the radio properties at 1.4 GHz of Seyfert galaxies with strong forbidden highionization lines (FHILs), selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey - a large-sized sample containing nearly equal proportion of diverse range of Seyfert galaxies showing similar redshift distributions compiled by using the Very Large Array survey images. The radio detection rate is low, 49%, which is lower than the detection rate of several other known Seyfert galaxy samples. These galaxies show low star formation rates and the radio emission is dominated by the active nucleus with ≤10% contribution from thermal emission, and possibly, none show evidence for relativistic beaming. The radio detection rate, distributions of radio power, and correlations between radio power and line luminosities or X-ray luminosity for narrow-line Seyfert 1 (NLS1), Seyfert 1 and Seyfert 2 galaxies are consistent with the predictions of the unified scheme hypothesis. Using correlation between radio and [O III] λ 5007 Å luminosities, we show that ∼8% sample sources are radio-intermediate and the remaining are radio-quiet. There is possibly an ionization stratification associated with clouds on scales of 0.1-1.0 kpc, which have large optical depths at 1.4GHz, and it seems these clouds are responsible for free-free absorption of radio emission from the core; hence, leading to low radio detection rate for these FHIL-emitting Seyfert galaxies

  • We have developed a automatic surface inspection system for cold Rolled strips in steel making process for several years. We have experienced the various kinds of surface inspection systems, including linear CCD camera type and the laser type inspection system which was installed in cold rolled strips production lines. But, we did not satisfied with these inspection systems owing to insufficient detection and classification rate, real time processing performance and limited line speed of real production lines. In order to increase detection and computing power, we have used the Dark Field illumination with Infra_Red LED, Bright Field illumination with Xenon Lamp, Parallel Computing Processor with Area typed CCD camera and full software based image processing technique for the ease up_grading and maintenance. In this paper, we introduced the automatic inspection system and real time image processing technique using the Object Detection, Defect Detection, Classification algorithms. As a result of experiment, under the situation of the high speed processed line(max 1000 meter per minute) defect detection is above 90% for all occurred defects in real line, defect name classification rate is about 80% for most frequently occurred 8 defect, and defect grade classification rate is 84% for name classified defect.

  • Power-line interference(PLI) can distort certain regions in analysing the ECG signal. In particular, the regions such as P and R wave that are important element in diagnosing with arrhythmia is expressed as different type of noise according to the case whether power-line frequency is multiples of sampling frequency and or not. Noise characteristics is also divided into linearity and non-linearity. In this paper, adaptive subtraction method for removing variable PLI of ECG signal is proposed. We classify the multiple relationship between power line and sampling frequency as Multiple and Non-multiple. PLI of Linear segment is extracted through moving average filter, PLI of non-linear segment is extracted through the interference component that is extracted in the linear segment and stored in the temporary buffer. The performance of P wave and R wave detection is evaluated by using 119 data record of MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate P wave detection rate of 97.91%, R wave detection rate of 96.66% and P wave detection rate of 99.01%, R wave detection rate of 97.93% accuracy respectively for Notch filter and proposed subtraction method.

  • Lightning induced faults accounts for more than 66% at the transmission lines of KEPCO. The lightning causes damages to power system equipments including transmission line, the shut down of electricity and the electro-magnetic interference. Because of this reason, we need the real time lightning information for the optimal operation of power system. And, it is required to obtain and accumulate the lightning current parameters for the insulation design. A lightning detection system, LPATS, has been operated since 1995 in KEPCO. For the improved detection efficiency, we had in stalled the new lightning detection network named as KLDNet in 2005. Also, we had developed the new software for the lightning parameters analysis and real time information service on the WEB. In this paper, we would like to introduce about the new system.

The lightning causes damages to power system equipments including transmission line, the blackout of electricity and the electro-magnetic interference. Because of this reason, we need the real time lightning information for the optimal operation of power system. And, it is required to obtain and accumulate the lightning current parameters for the insulation design. In 2005, KEPRI constructed a lightning detection network, the KLDNet (i.e. Kepco Lightning Detection & Information System) and launched a lightning information service for KEPCO customers. It is intended to provide data service on the operation of transmission lines and collect lightning-related data, which is the most important factor regulating power system design and operation. The new system will replace LPATS, the old detection system, which has been operating since 1995 and is rapidly failing in terms of both detection performance and location accuracy. The purpose of this paper is to explain the work performed and the results of that work in performing a site survey of several locations. The purpose of the site survey is to find locations acceptable for the installation of a lightning location receiver in support of a Lightning detection system(LDS). A restriction was placed on the surveyed locations, as they must belong to the Korea Electric Power Company. This requirement was made to facilitate the communication needs of the LDS network. Total of 15 sites were evaluated as possible LDS sensor sites. Some of the sites were rejected for physical reasons and therefore no electrical testing was performed. Of the 15 sites, total of 10 sites were considered acceptable and 5 sites were rejected for various reason. In this paper, we would like to explain the site survey and detection efficiency for LDS.

  • This paper introduces a implementation of fault detection for national highway line 3. Fault detection system was installed and operated on national highway line 3, environmental elements caused by abnormal status or faults has often happened. Therefore, the function of fault detection system is to speedy notify fault site, cause as well as scale of fault to manager. Though the fault detection and diagnosis system has been imported in the field of process of water and electric power, it is just beginning step in the field of ITS(Intelligent Transportation Systems). In general, Maintenance system is performed the online/offline process of detection, diagnosis and measure. This paper is studied online detection process, which is realtime remote detection.

  • Recently, by increasing of devices which are sensitive to power quality, microprocessor and power electronics, the deterioration of power quality is accelerated. Accordingly, various methods for analysis, detection, compensation and countermeasure on power quality are proposed. For this, the study of distinction of various disturbances and fault which is occurred in power system is necessary to prior. Therefore, in this paper, the classification algorithm among steady state and single line to ground fault which is commonly occurred fault is proposed using S-Transform.

  • 부분방전 검출을 이용한 XLPE 케이블 진단은 중간 및 종단 접속재의 계면에 존재하는 결합을 검출할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 방법으로 제시되고 있지만 현장의 큰 노이즈로 인하여 신뢰성 있는 진단이 쉽지 않다. 하지만 국내에서 많은 연구가 이루어진 송전케이블 진단 기술을 바탕으로 배전케이블 진단에 적용하여 종단접속부에서 발생된 부분방전을 성공적으로 검출하였고 해체 조사를 통하여 결함을 검출하였다. 본 논문은 참고문헌[1]에 발표한 논문에 연결되는 논문으로 전편은 2004년 2월 부분방전 검출사례를 보고한 논문이고 본 논문에서는 8월 계획정전을 통하여 문제된 접속함을 교체한 후 해체조사를 통하여 결함을 검출한 사례보고이다.

  • Prevention of the islanding phenomena is one of the most important issues because it can damage electrical equipment connected to the utility system and endanger human life. It is very difficult to detect an islanding condition of a power distribution line with conventional voltage of frequency relays, while the output power and the load power of utility interactive PV inverter units are in nearly balanced state in both active power and reactive power. This paper describes the protective equipment that prevents the PV system connected to the utility grid from starting islanding. Both predictive ocntrol method and harmonic injection method are used for a current control and islanding detection for operating safety.

  • In this paper, a fault section detection method is proposed for ungrounded system in the case of a single line-to-ground fault. A conventional method is used for faulted feeder selection according to the angular relationship between zero-sequence currents of the feeders and zero-sequence voltage of the system. Fault section detection is based on the comparison of phase angle of zero-sequence current. Proposed method has been testified in a demo system by Matlab/Simulink simulations. Based on Distribution Automation System(DAS), Feeder Remote Terminal Unit(FRTU) is used to collect those necessary data, at present a demo system is under developing using Manufacturing Message Specification (MMS) in IEC61850 standard.
