A Low Power and Low Noise Data Bus Inversion for High Speed Graphics SDRAM (High Speed Graphics SDRAM을 위한 저 전력, 저 노이즈 Data Bus Inversion)

  • This paper presents new high speed architecture using DBI(Data Bus Inversion) in DRAM. The DBI is one of the general methods in the signaling circuits to decrease the known problems such as SSO and LSI. Many architectures have been proposed to reduce the number of transitions on the data bus. In this paper, the DBI, the Analog Majority Voter (AMV) circuit, the GIO control circuit and the SSO algorithm are newly proposed. The power consumption can he reduced with the help of direct GIO inversion method and the eye diagram of data can be increased to 40ps. Using proposed DBI scheme can produce almost stable SI of DQs against high speed operation. The DBI is fabricated in 90nm CMOS Technology.

  • One of the major reasons for recent blackout, like August 14, 2003 blackout in the US and Canada has been insufficient voltage/reactive power support. For the stable reactive power management, a new approach for the voltage monitoring and control structure is required in the market environment. This paper proposes the effective localized-voltage control scheme using the information from pilot buses at each zone. In this paper, the steady state voltage monitoring and control (SSVMC) is adopted and illustrated for the voltage control scheme during steady state because it is thought as the systemic algorithm to explain voltage profile phenomenon before and after contingencies. And the concept of electrical distance is applied to simultaneously achieve both clustering the voltage control zone, and selecting the pilot bus as the representative node at each control zone. Applying SSVMC based on the structure with clustering and pilot bus enables system operators to monitor and understand the system condition much more easily, to monitor and control the voltage in real-time more manageably, and to respond quickly to a disturbance. The proposed voltage control scheme has been tested on the IEEE 14-bus system with the numerical analysis to examine the system reliability and structure efficiency.

  • A novel integrated battery charger/discharger converter for a standardized battery module is proposed. Instead of using separate charger and discharger converters, it integrates these two converters into a single converter in order to minimize the size. The integrated charger/discharger converter not only regulates the solar array output power including the peak power tracking capability but also controls the battery charging/discharging current depending on the solar array output power and the load power. In addition, it offers a regulated bus voltage which simplifies the power distribution/conversion for the pay load.

  • In the conventional power flow calculations, the slack bus is assumed to undertake the total transmission loss for the convenience of numerical computation. This is an unrealistic assumption because, in real power system, the transmission loss is supplied by all the generators and makes the power flow calculation results somewhat distorted. This paper proposes a new loss redistribution algorithm that can reduce the distortion of power flow results. In the proposed method, the system power loss redistribution algorithm is added to the conventional power flow equations and jacobian elements that are related the real power are newly constructed. In each iteration step, the power output of each generator is updated to consider the effect of calculated total power losses. Finally the usefulness of proposed method are tested through the some appropriate case studies.

  • In front of the opening of electric distribution market in 2004, it is indispensable to have a proper estimation of power quality index and rower quality cost calculation mechanism which are indispensable to stabilize highly industrialized society and to vitalize the Investment lot electric power system. However, there were not enough measures to reflect the voltage characteristics such as voltage sags and Interruptions which make electric load in unstable operation. This paper suggests power quality index and power quality cost which translate various kinds of voltage records into bus load drop index(BLDI) and bus power quality cost(BPQC) based on aggregated load CBEMA curve. A sample calculation result shows that this method can produces the acceptable power Quality index and costs for utilities and customers requirements.

A design of P1394 serial bus IC (P1394 시리얼 버스 IC의 설계)

  • In this paper, I designed a P1394 serial bus chip as new bus interface architecture which can transmit the multimedia data at the rate of 400 Mbps and guarantee necessary bandwidth. because multimedia data become meaningless data after appropriate time, it is necessary to transfer multimedia data in real time, P1394 serial bus chip designed in this paper support isochronous transfer mode to solve this problem. Also, designed P1394 serial bus chip can transfer high quality video data or high quality audio data because it support the speed of 400 Mbps. While user must set device ID manually in previous interface such as SCSI, device ID is automatically determined if user connect each node with designed P1394 serial bus cable and power on. To design this chip, I verified the behavioral of the entrire system and synthesized layout. Also, I did layout the analog blocks and blocks which must be optimized in full custom.

  • A Bus Trunk System for Wind Tower is introduced. A marine cable has been widely used in wind tower or other offshore structure. However, as the electric load capacity is getting increased, the large number of cable lines should be used to cover such a huge amount of electric capacities, which makes the installation make quite difficult due to the heavy weight and volume of the present cables. On the other hand, by using a single bus trunk system line, the power capacity amount of 16 number of cable can be delivered with significant compactness. However, unlike flexible cable, the bus trunk is relatively stiff which could arise resonance phenomenon in the operating condition of wind tower, therefore, the vibration characteristics of bus trunk should be investigated and verify its long-term reliability during the life time of the wind tower.

  • A CICC type superconducting bus-line electrically connecting a superconducting magnet to a power supply is cooled down to low temperature under the external magnetic field during operation. The thermal contraction during the cooling may be constrained by the supports which are installed to protect the bus-line from Lorenz magnetic forces. This constrained contraction causes thermal stresses in the bus-line to release thermal contraction. The minimum stress conditions in the bus-line may be optimized by controlling the supporting arrangement considering the thermal contraction and the external field. The analytical method to find optimal supports arrangement was suggested by using the beam theory, and numerical calculation using commercial code was performed to verify the suggested analytical optimization method.

  • More and all-electric aircraft (AEA) carry many loads with varied functions. In particular, there may be large pulsed loads with short duty ratios which can affect the normal operation of other loads. In this paper, a converter with spilt capacitors and an improved adaptive controller is used as the Voltage Bus Conditioner (VBC) with the reduced capacitive storage to mitigate the voltage transients on the bus. The proposed converter allows the smaller capacitive storage. Also, the proposed controller has the advantage of requiring only one sensor and performing both the functions of mitigating the voltage bus transients and maintaining the level of energy stored. Experimental results are presented which verify the control principles and demonstrate the practicality of the approach.

Accurate Transmission Loss Allocation Algorithm Based on the Virtual Transaction Strategy: Comparison of Path-integral with Discrete Integral Methods

  • This paper presents a new algorithm to determine accurate bus-wise transmission loss allocation utilizing path-integrals dictated by the transaction strategy. For any transaction strategy, the total sum of the allocated transmission losses of all buses is equal to the actual loss given by the AC power-flow calculation considering the distributed slack. In this paper, the bus-wise allocation of the transmission loss is calculated by integrating the differential loss along a path determined by the transaction strategy. The proposed algorithm is also compared with Galiana's method, which is the well-known transmission loss allocation algorithm based on integration. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by case studies carried out on the WSCC 9-bus, IEEE 14-bus, New England 39-bus, and IEEE 118-bus systems. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is fast and accurate with a large step size.
