  • In this paper, as a part of the method improving stability, the load-flow calculation in D.C. power system and the models for stability analysis are studied with A.C-D.C. interconnected power systems transmission performed. Moreover, the theory is established in relation to each control method of D.C. power systems. Then the stability of A.C-D.C.interconnected power systems is compared and considered by the way of dividing the operating control method of the rectifier inverter converter into ACR-AVR, APR-A.gamma.R, A.alpha.R-ACR. The dynamics characteristic of terminal voltage, frequency, active-reactive power and rotor angle of the generator with disturbances and load fluctuations is considered. In addition, the characteristic of direct voltage, direct current, power and control systems. From this the comparative analysis of the direct current control method, the possibility of the stability analysis of A.C.-D.C. interconnected power system is considered. • An increasing concern is paid to short-term voltage stability with the growth of penetration of induction motor loads. Reactive power reserve(RPR) of power system is critical to improve voltage stability. A definition of short-term voltage stability-related RPR(SVRPR) is proposed. Generators vary their contributions to voltage stability with their location and system condition, etc. Voltage support coefficient based on the second-order trace sensitivity method is proposed to evaluate SVRPR's contribution to short-term voltage stability. The evaluation method can account for the generator's reactive support in transient process and the contingency severity. Then an optimization model to improve short-term voltage stability is built. To deal with multiple contingencies, contingency weight taking into account both its probability and severity is proposed. The optimization problem is solved by primal dual interior point method. Testing on IEEE_39 bus system, it is indicated that the method proposed is effective. Short-term voltage stability is improved significantly by the way of SVRPR optimization. Hence, the approach can be used to prevent the happening of voltage collapse during system's contingency.

  • In electric power system, the line stability indices adopted in most of the instances laid stress on variation of reactive power than real power variation of the transmission line. In this paper, a proposal is made with the formulation of a New Voltage Stability Index (NVSI) which originates from the equation of a two bus network, neglecting the resistance of transmission line, resulting in appreciable variations in both real and reactive loading. The efficacy of the index and fuzzy based load flow are validated with IEEE 30 bus and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) 69 bus system, a practical system in India. The results could prove that the identification of weak bus and critical line in both systems is effectively done. The weak area of the practical system and the contingency ranking with overloading either line or generator outages are found by conducting contingency analysis using NVSI.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for determining generator operation point for maintaining stability considering generator faults in Jeju-Haenam HVDC system. As the HVDC system consumes reactive power for the transmission of active power substantially, compensation of reactive power is essential. And the HVDC system is operated on frequency control mode. That is to say, the HVDC system almost manages system frequency. Therefore, we recognized that the Jeju system could be unstable if the reactive power consumed by the HVDC is insufficient when out-of-step occurs with large generators. When the solution of power flow analysis does not converge due to the unstable system phenomenon, we have difficulty in establishing countermeasures as the post-fault information is not available. In this paper, for the purpose of overcoming this difficulty in establishing countermeasures, we introduce the CPF(Continuation Power Flow) algorithm. This paper suggests an algorithm for calculating the output limitation of the generator to maintain the stability in case of generator fault in the Jeju system.

  • Solar power systems have become popular in the modem electric energy system. In order to supply the DC power, generated by solar cells, to the electric power system, the solar power system requires DC-to-AC power conversion. A line-commutated inverter or a forced-commutated inverter can be used in the DC-to-AC power conversion. Because of the nonlinear V-I characteristics of the solar cells, multiple operating points determined by the control mode of the inverter exist in the DC V-I state plane of the solar power system. In this paper, the stability of utility-interactive solar power system with a line-commutated inverter is analyzed at various operating points, using the eigenvalue method and the state-plane analysis technique. The stability of a forced-commutated inverter case is also anaiyzed and compared to that of the line-commutated inverter case.

  • This paper presents a new concept of reactive reserve based contingency constrained optimal power flow (RCCOPF) for voltage stability enhancement. This concept is based on the fact that increase in reactive reserves is effective for enhancement of voltage stability margins of post-contingent states, in this paper, the proposed algorithm is applied to voltage stability margin of interface flow. Interface flow limit, in the open access environment, can be a main drawback. RCCOPF for enhancement of interface flow margin is composed of two modules, modified continuation power flow (MCPF) and optimal power flow (OPF). These modules art recursively perform ed until satisfying the required margin of interface flow in the given voltage stability criteria.

  • This paper deals with the robust stability analysis of STATCOM (Static Synchronous Compensator) power system for power quality enhancement and power system stability. The STATCOM plays an important role in controlling the reactive power flow to the power network and hence the system voltage fluctuations and stability. The control areas of this plant are very large and the overall composition of the system is nonlinear. Also, STATCOM is influence of the uncertainties so that it is necessary to apply the new control technique. For solving these problems, we perform the fuzzy modeling and robust analysis for STATCOM system.

  • In spite of continuous increase of electric power demand and new generation plants, it is very difficult to install new transmission line. Therefore, it comes to be difficult to operate the power system stable, so it is required to find another way to get new transmission capacity. Because HVDC transmission system installation is the one of the best option for us, we have undertake the HVDC project in mainland. Buckdangjin-Goduck HVDC project(500kV, 3GW) is currently under construction and Eastern Power HVDC project(500kV, 8GW) is under the study for technical specification. Both of them have the Run-up SPS function for taking action of 765kV Transmission line fault. The Run-up SPS function increases the active power output of the HVDC rapidly when the transmission line between the power plant and network is tripped, thereby preventing the generator from overspeed and improving the power system stability. In this paper, we propose MEAC(Modified Equal Area Criteria) method based on traditional EAC method to quantitatively evaluate the effect of the HVDC run-up SPS function on the power system stability improvement.

  • This paper describes CSC(Current Sourced Converters)-based HVDC operational strategy for voltage stability enhancement in the power system. In case of CSC-based HVDC system, rectifier and inverter consume reactive power up to about 60% of converter rating. Therefore, CSC-based HVDC is basically not useful system for voltage stability even if AC filters and shunt capacitors are attached. But, If the particular power system condition is fulfilled, CSC-based HVDC also can be the rapid reactive power source for voltage stability enhancement using a cooperative control with converter and AC filters/Shunt Capacitors. In this paper, the cooperative control algorithm is presented and simulated to ${\pm}80kV$ 60MW HVDC system in Jeju island.

  • A novel method is proposed to construct the voltage stability boundary of power system considering different Reactive Power Control Mode (RPCM) of Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) Wind Power Plant (WPP). It can be used for reflecting the static stability status of grid operation with wind power penetration. The analytical derivation work of boundary search method can expound the mechanism and parameters relationship of different WPP RPCMs. In order to improve the load margin and find a practical method to assess the voltage security of power system, the approximate method of constructing voltage stability boundary and the critical points search algorithms under different RPCMs of DFIG WPP are explored, which can provide direct and effective reference data for operators.
