  • Operator training simulator, within a training environment designed to understand the principles and behavior of the railway system with respect to operator's entries and predefined scenario, can provide a very strong benefit in facilitating operators' handling undesired operations. This simulator consists of computer system and applications, and the purpose of applications is to generate the power and voltage and analyze the AC substation and DC railway, respectively. This paper describes a novel approach to the new techniques for AC/DC hybrid simulation for the operator training simulator in the railway system. We first propose the structure the database of railway system. Then, topology processing and power flow using a linked-list method based on the proposed database, full or decoupled newton-rapshon methods are presented. Finally, the interface between the analysis for AC substation using a newton-rapshon method and the analysis for DC railway system using a time-interval power flow method is described. We have verified and tested the developed algorithm through the extensive testing for the proposed test system. To demonstrate the validity of the developed algorithm, comparative simulations between the proposed algorithm and PSS/E for the test system were conducted.

  • Various protective equiptments are used for the power system control and protection. Numerous facilities are monitored at the same time in real time and introduction of optimization method and analysis of the method are required for generation control and facility management considering the demand fluctuations. However, the existing system analysis programs are difficult to link with the other sw and there are some problems with user convenience. To solve these problems the present conditions of the system are figured out in real time and the equipment insert method was estimated by optimization method, and the system that showed the system analysis program is developed. PSS/E has been used as system anlysis program for stabilizing system development which applied the optimization. method and Python language is applied in order to link the input and output values with the DB automatically. Lastly, DLL of matlab has been made included in C++ for solving the objective function using opmization method.By linking this to DB, power flow was calculated in PSS/E and the result was represented by Intouch screen.

  • Voltage stability is one of the most critical security issues which has not yet been well resolved to date. In this paper, an analytical method called PQ plane analysis with consideration of the reactive power capability of wind turbine generator and the wake effect of wind farm is proposed for voltage stability study. Two voltage stability indices based on the proposed PQ plane analysis method incorporating the uncertainties of load-increasing direction and wind generation are designed and implemented. Cases studies are conducted to investigate the impacts of wind power incorporation with different control modes. Simulation results demonstrate that the constant voltage control based on reactive power capability significantly enhances voltage stability in comparison of the conventional constant power factor control. Some meaningful conclusions are obtained.

  • A satellite power system should generate and supply sufficient electric power to perform the satellite mission successfully during the satellite mission period, and it should be developed to be strong to the failure caused by the severe space environment. A satellite power system must have a high reliability with respect to failure. Since it cannot be repaired after launching, different from a ground system, the failures that may happen in space as well as the effect of the failures on the system should be considered in advance. However, it is difficult to use all the hardware to test the performance of the satellite power system to be developed in order to consider the failure mechanism of the electrical power system. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an accurate model for the main components of a power system and, based on that, to develop an accurate model for the entire power system. Through the power system modeling, the overall effect of failure on the main components of the power system can be considered and the protective design can be devised against the failure. In this study, to analyze the failure mode of the power system and the effects of the failure on the power system, we carried out modeling of the main power system components including the solar array regulator, and constituted the entire power system based on the modeling. Additionally, we investigated the effects of representative failures in the solar array regulator on the power system using the power system model.

  • This paper presents conservation of electrical energy in building with harmonics analysis and compensation which occur in electrical system. We use load controlling and management system in order to adjust load factor of system. The maximum demand limiting and controlling are used ,then the system can acquire the prediction and compare it to the maximum demand set point. The electrical signal analysis based on FFT technique. The harmonics are compensated by using harmonic filters. This system consists computer which works as controller, processor , analysis and database unit together with digital power meter in form of multidrop network through serial communication via RS-485.The load control system uses PLC to control load via serial communication RS-485. The A/D converter is used for sampling the electrical signals via parallel port of computer. The harmonic filters are controlled by a computer. The data of measurement such as voltage, current, power, power factor, total harmonic distortion, energy, etc., can be saved as database and analysis. The load factor is adjusted by limiting and controlling maximum demand. The load factor adjustment can reduce the cost of electric consumption and energy generation together with harmonics compensation in order to increase high efficiency of electrical system.

  • This paper presents an information collection and a novel inference technique for evaluation of power system operation state. In most developing countries, power demands are steadily increasing and consequently power systems are becoming larger and more complicated. In addition, power system deregulations further complicate the power system operational tasks, which are resulted in prevailing wide area blackouts worldwide. In this paper, we proposed an effective information collection and operating state evaluation methods using a knowledge-based system. The RTS-79 24 bus system is used as a test system. The power system model is composed with JESS templates and included in the knowledge-base as a part of fixed facts. Dynamic informations are collected from various analysis results and actual operational data. Inferences are performed with rules expressed with terms in different abstraction levels. Future research will be concentrated on intelligent contingency selections for preventing wide area blackouts.

  • The emergency AC power supply system of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear reactor at the emergency operating condition. The safety function of the diesel generator at the nuclear power plant is to supply AC electric power to the plant safety system whenever the preferred AC power supply is unavailable. The reliable operation of onsite emergency diesel generator should be ensured by a conditioning monitoring system designed to maintain and monitor and forecast the reliability level of diesel generator. To do this kind of diesel generator condition monitoring we reviewed several operating factors and history of the wolsong unit 3 diesel generator and selected the proper conditioning monitoring operating factors.

  • In this study we examined the method to estimate numerically the amount of the regenerated power and the excess regenerated power produced in the DC electric power supply system for the urban light rail transit system. And their economic feasibilities are also studied. For this study DC electric power supply system is simulated and the numerical analysis of the regenerated power and the excess regenerated power are conducted. The study result on the sample system shows that the facility to consume the excess regenerated power or the inverting equipment to reuse the excess regenerated power in the electric substation is feasible economically.

  • This paper deals with parameter tuning of the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for 612 MVA thermal power plants in the KEPCO system and its validation in a field test. In this paper, the selection of parameters, such as lead-lag time constants for phase compensation and system gain, is optimized using linear and eigenvalue analyses. This is then verified through the time-domain transient stability analysis. In the next step, the performance of PSS is finally verified by the generator's on-line field test. After the field test, measured and simulated data are also compared to prove the effectiveness of the models used in the simulations.

  • As for the present wind power industry, most of the computerization for monitoring and control is based on the traditional development methodology, but it is necessary to improve SCADA system since it has a phenomenon of backlog accumulation in the applicable aspect of back-data as well as in the operational aspect in the future. Especially for a system like offshore wind power where a superintendent cannot reside, it is desirable to operate a remote control system. Therefore, it is essential to establish a monitoring system with appropriate control and monitoring inevitably premised on the integrity and independence of data. As a result, a study was carried out on the modeling of offshore wind power data-centered database. In this paper, a logical data modeling method was proposed and designed to establish the database of offshore wind power. In order for designing the logical data modeling of an offshore wind power system, this study carried out an analysis of design elements for the database of offshore wind power and described considerations and problems as well. Through a comparative analysis of the final database of the newly-designed off-shore wind power system against the existing SCADA System, this study proposed a new direction to bring about progress toward a smart wind power system, showing a possibility of a service-oriented smart wind power system, such as future prediction, hindrance-cause examination and fault analyses, through the database integrating various control signals, geographical information and data about surrounding environments.
