Simultaneous Measurement of Liquid-level, Concentration and Temperature of a Urea Tank using Ultrasonic and Electrical Conductivity Sensors (초음파와 전기전도 센서를 이용한 우레아 탱크 수위, 농도 및 온도의 동시 측정 방안)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the basic data for the development of a sensor capable of simultaneously measuring the liquid-level, concentration and temperature of a urea tank using ultrasonic and electrical conductivity sensors for diesel vehicles with a urea-SCR system. It was found that the liquid-level of the urea tank using the ultrasonic sensor showed a good linearity with the actual liquid-level, and the urea concentration maintained good linearity in the range of 32.5 wt% to 10 wt%. It was an effective measurement of urea concentration to use the electrical conductivity sensor in the temperature range of $-10{\sim}22^{\circ}C$ and to use the ultrasonic sensor at $22^{\circ}C$ or more. Simultaneous measurement of concentration, liquid-level and temperature of the urea tank will be possible by attaching the electrical conductivity sensor and the ultrasonic sensor (split-type) to one sensor together.

Bora wind characteristics for engineering applications

  • Bora is a strong, usually dry temporally and spatially transient wind that is common at the eastern Adriatic Coast and many other dynamically similar regions around the world. One of the Bora main characteristics is its gustiness, when wind velocities can reach up to five times the mean velocity. Bora often creates significant problems to traffic, structures and human life in general. In this study, Bora velocity and near-ground turbulence are studied using the results of three-level high-frequency Bora field measurements carried out on a meteorological tower near the city of Split, Croatia. These measurements are analyzed for a period from April 2010 until June 2011. This rather long period allows for making quite robust and reliable conclusions. The focus is on mean Bora velocity, turbulence intensity, Reynolds shear stress and turbulence length scale profiles, as well as on Bora velocity power spectra and thermal stratification. The results are compared with commonly used empirical laws and recommendations provided in the ESDU 85020 wind engineering standard to question its applicability to Bora. The obtained results report some interesting findings. In particular, the empirical power- and logarithmic laws proved to fit mean Bora velocity profiles well. With decreasing Bora velocity there is an increase in the power-law exponent and aerodynamic surface roughness length, and simultaneously a decrease in friction velocity. This indicates an urban-like velocity profile for smaller wind velocities and a rural-like velocity profile for larger wind velocities. Bora proved to be near-neutral thermally stratified. Turbulence intensity and lateral component of turbulence length scales agree well with ESDU 85020 for this particular terrain type. Longitudinal and vertical turbulence length scales, Reynolds shear stress and velocity power spectra differ considerably from ESDU 85020. This may have significant implications on calculations of Bora wind loads on structures.

The effect of botulinum toxin-A injection into the masseter muscles on prevention of plate fracture and post-operative relapse in patients receiving orthognathic surgery

  • Background: Botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) injection into muscle reduces muscular power and may prevent post-operative complication after orthognathic surgery. The purpose of this study was (1) to evaluate BTX-A injection into the masseter muscle on the prevention of plate fracture and (2) to compare post-operative relapse between the BTX-A injection group and the no injection group. Methods: Sixteen patients were included in this study. Eight patients received BTX-A injection bilaterally, and eight patients served as control. All patients received bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy for the mandibular setback and additional surgery, such as LeFort I osteotomy or genioplasty. Post-operative plate fracture was recorded. SNB angle, mandibular plane angle, and gonial angle were used for post-operative relapse. Results: Total number of fractured plates in patients was 2 out of 16 plates in the BTX-A injection group and that was 8 out of 16 plates in the no treatment group (P = 0.031). However, there were no significant differences in post-operative changes in SNB angle, mandibular plane angle, and gonial angle between groups (P > 0.05). Conclusions: BTX-A injection into the masseter muscle could reduce the incidence of plate fracture.

  • The interest in reducing the emissions and increasing the fuel economy of ICE vehicles has prompted research on hybrid vehicles, which come in the series, parallel, and power-split types. This study focuses on the series-type hybrid electric vehicle, which has a simple structure. Because each component of a series hybrid vehicle is larger than the corresponding component of the parallel type, the sizing of the vehicle is very important. This is because the performance may be greater or less than what is required. Thus, in this research, the optimal fuel economy was determined and simulated in a real-world system. The optimal sizing was achieved based on the motor, engine/generator, and battery for 13 cycles, where DP was used. The model was developed using ASCET or a Simulink-Amisim Co-simulation platform on the rapid controller prototype, ES-1000.

Ordinal Variable Selection in Decision Trees (의사결정나무에서 순서형 분리변수 선택에 관한 연구)

  • The most important component in decision tree algorithm is the rule for split variable selection. Many earlier algorithms such as CART and C4.5 use greedy search algorithm for variable selection. Recently, many methods were developed to cope with the weakness of greedy search algorithm. Most algorithms have different selection criteria depending on the type of variables: continuous or nominal. However, ordinal type variables are usually treated as continuous ones. This approach did not cause any trouble for the methods using greedy search algorithm. However, it may cause problems for the newer algorithms because they use statistical methods valid for continuous or nominal types only. In this paper, we propose a ordinal variable selection method that uses Cramer-von Mises testing procedure. We performed comparisons among CART, C4.5, QUEST, CRUISE, and the new method. It was shown that the new method has a good variable selection power for ordinal type variables.

  • R-410a and R-407c witch have the best potential among the substances being considered as R-22 alternatives were tested as "drop in" refrigerants against a set R-22 baseline tests for comparison. The performance evaluations were carried out in a psychrometric calorimeter test facility using the residential split-type air conditioner under the ARI rating conditions. Other than the use of different lubricant and a hand-operated expansion valve, one of the commercial systems was selected for the experiment. Performance characteristics were measured; compressor power, capacity, VCR, mass flow rate and COP. The tests showed that R-407c can be directly applied to the existing refrigeration system because of its similar vapor pressure and other thermopysical properties with those of R-22. However, it required change to the volume flow rate of compressor in order to achieve the similar performance with R-22 because of its relatively small VCR and capacity. Meanwhile, R-410a has too high a vapor pressure to be applied to the existing system and this feature results in relatively low COP of the system compared to that of R-22. But this could be improved by changing compressor design considering R-410a's relatively high VCR and capacity compared to those of R-22.

  • This paper propose new sound localization algorithm that detects the sound source bearing in a closed office environment using two microphone array. The proposed Subband CPSP (Cross Power Spectrum Phase) algorithm is a development of previously Down CPSP method using subband approach. It first split the received microphone signals into subbands and then calculates subband CPSP which result in possible source bearings. This type of algorithm, Subband CPSP, can provide more robust and reliable sound localization system because it limits the effects of environmental noise within each subband. To verify the performance of the proposed Subband CPSP algorithm, a real time simulation was conducted and it was compared with previous CPSP method. From the simulation results, the proposed Subband CPSP is superior to previous CPSP algorithm more than 5% average accuracy for sound source detection.

The Comparison of Pedalling Performance to according to the Position of Shoe Cleat in Triathletes During Cycling (자전거 운동 중 클릿의 위치 변화에 따른 페달링 수행능력 비교)

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of different shoe-cleat position on pedalling performance. Four male elite triathletes(age: $22.00{\times}2.16years$, height: $175.12{\pm}8.06cm$, weight: $71.20{\pm}7.89kg$, body fat: $16.62{\pm}3.56%$) and three female elite triathletes(age: $20.00{\pm}1years$, height: $158.40{\pm}2.42cm$, weight: $51.30{\pm}3.89kg$, body fat: $19.26{\pm}2.28%$) participated in 10km time trial and 30sec time trial pedaling tests with the individual time trials based on different shoe-cleat position(cleat front: CF, cleat back: CB). The subjects performed one trial with each type of shoe-cleat position. Maximal power output and average speed were not significantly different during 30s time trial in CF compared with CB. Average power, RPM, and HR were not significantly different during 10k time trial in CF compared with CB. Split time in 1km, 5km, 9km were significantly reduced during 10k time trial in CB compared with CF. We conclude that there was performance advantage in CB using shoe-cleat back position in comparison with CF using shoe-cleat front position.

  • A key factor in the study of hybrid vehicle is to enhance the usability of energy. The paper introduces the monitor and controlling technology of hybrid vehicle that can process the relevant information considering the structure of power system and driving strategies simultaneously, and can monitor its results. This technology, so called HEV algorithm analysis, has been applied to PRIUS THS made by Toyota Co. LTD. This model is adapted to parallel hybrid type. It has a somewhat comlex structure, but has several merits. It's energy loss is lower when conversing. and also it is easily applied to the conventional vehicle having a gasoline engine without any overall changing of its structure, and so on. This monitor and controlling technology is very useful to study on the various driving strategies of hybrid vehicle for maximizing the usability between engine and electric motor.

YOLOv5-based Chimney Detection Using High Resolution Remote Sensing Images (고해상도 원격탐사 영상을 이용한 YOLOv5기반 굴뚝 탐지)

  • Air pollution is social issue that has long-term and short-term harmful effect on the health of animals, plants, and environments. Chimneys are the primary source of air pollutants that pollute the atmosphere, so their location and type must be detected and monitored. Power plants and industrial complexes where chimneys emit air pollutants, are much less accessible and have a large site, making direct monitoring cost-inefficient and time-inefficient. As a result, research on detecting chimneys using remote sensing data has recently been conducted. In this study, YOLOv5-based chimney detection model was generated using BUAA-FFPP60 open dataset create for power plants in Hebei Province, Tianjin, and Beijing, China. To improve the detection model's performance, data split and data augmentation techniques were used, and a training strategy was developed for optimal model generation. The model's performance was confirmed using various indicators such as precision and recall, and the model's performance was finally evaluated by comparing it to existing studies using the same dataset.
