Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) application study on enhancing the flexibility of AC power system has continued to make progress. A thyristor-controlled series capacitor (TCSC) is a useful FACTS device that can control the power flow by adjusting line impedances and minimize the loss of power flow and voltage drop in a transmission system by adjusting line impedances. Reduced power flow loss leads to increased loadability, low system loss, and improved stability of the power system. This study proposes the optimal location and compensation rate method for TCSCs, by considering both the power system loss and voltage drop of transmission systems. The proposed method applies a multi-objective function consisting of a minimizing function for power flow loss and voltage drop. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated using IEEE 14- and a 30-bus system.

In this paper, 3-phase hybrid series active power filter for compensate current harmonics, voltage drop and unbalanced voltage in the network presented. The proposed system is implemented with a space vector modulation voltage source inverter and a high pass filter connected in parallel to the power system. Here the load is six-pulses thyristor rectifier. The phase angle detected in order to generation reference voltage at load terminal is synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The proposed system has an function harmonic isolation between source and load, voltage regulation, and unbalance compensation. Therefore, what the power system is improved quality, the source current is maintained as a nearly sinusoidal waveform and the load voltage is regulated with a rated voltage regardless of the source variation condition. To verify the validity of the proposed compensating system, the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.
We in this note introduce a concept, so called nil generalized power serieswise Armendariz ring, that is a generalization of both S-Armendariz rings and nil power serieswise Armendariz rings. We first observe the basic properties of nil generalized power serieswise Armendariz rings, constructing typical examples. We next study the relationship between the nilpotent property of R and that of the generalized power series ring [[$R^{S,{\leq}}$]] whenever R is nil generalized power serieswise Armendariz.
Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material published by IAEA Safety Standard Series ST-l is reviewed and summarized. Safety Series No.115(International standard of radiation protection and safety for ionizing radiation and radiation sources), which reflected the new recommendation of ICRP60 published in 1991, has been a important encouragement for IAEA to revise their safety series related to the transportation of radioactive materials. IAEA Safety, Standard Series No. ST-l is summarized by comparing IAEA Safety Series No.6 regarding radiation protection system and its implementation, technical standards of packages, concept of Q system and exemption of regulation. The IAEA regulations of transportation of radioactive materials is summarized from the viewpoint of radiation protection and safety assessment. Research on transportation system of radioactive waste is suggested as a further study.
A stable power supply is very important for the maintenance and operation of the power infrastructure. Accurate power consumption prediction is therefore needed. In particular, a university campus is an institution with one of the highest power consumptions and tends to have a wide variation of electrical load depending on time and environment. For this reason, a model that can accurately predict power consumption is required for the effective operation of the power system. The disadvantage of the existing time series prediction technique is that the prediction performance is greatly degraded because the width of the prediction interval increases as the difference between the learning time and the prediction time increases. In this paper, we first classify power data with similar time series patterns considering the date, day of the week, holiday, and semester. Next, each ARIMA model is constructed based on the classified data set and a daily power consumption forecasting method of the university campus is proposed through the time series cross-validation of the predicted time. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the prediction, we confirmed the validity of the proposed method by applying performance indicators.

Interactions among multiple control functions of a UPFC installed in a power system have been observed in power system simulation and been reported in authors' previous publications [1,2]. This paper presents new analytical results about these observed interactions and concludes that they are due to the control conflict between the series and shunt part of the UPFC, which are connected through the internal common capacitor inside the UPFC. Investigation in the paper reveals, for the first time as far as the authors are aware of, that the linkage pattern of UPFC series and shunt part decides whether the control functions implemented by the UPFC series and shunt part conflict each other or not. This linkage pattern of UPFC series and shunt part can be described by the flow of active power through the UPFC at steady-state operation of the power system. Hence in order to predict the possible interactions among multiple control functions of the UPFC, an interaction indicator is proposed in the paper which is the direction and amount of active power flow through the internal link of the UPFC series and shunt part at steady-state operation of the power system. This proposed interaction indicator can be calculated from power system load flow solution without having to run simulation of the power system with UPFC controllers installed. By using the indicator, the interactions among multiple control functions of the UPFC caused by badly set controller's parameters are excluded. Therefore the indicator only identifies the possible existence of inherent control conflict of the UPFC.

Due to space and geographical constraints, the power source may be located outside the island area, resulting in the considerable length of transmission line. In these cases, when an active power is transmitted, unexpected reactive power is generated at a point of common coupling (PCC). Unlike the power transmitted from the power generation source, the reactive power adversely affects the system. This study proposes a new algorithm that controls reactive power at PCC. Causes of reactive power errors are separated into parallel and series components, which allows the algorithm to compensate the reactive current of the inverter output and control reactive power at the PCC through calculations from the impedance, voltage, and current. The proposed algorithm has economic advantages by controlling the reactive power with the inverter of the power source itself, and can flexibly control power against voltage and output variations. Through the simulation, the algorithm was verified by implementing a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity connected to the low voltage system and of 5 [MVA] capacity connected to the extra-high voltage system. Furthermore, a power source of 3 [kVA] capacity inverter is configured and connected to a mock grid, then confirmed through experiments.
For an endomorphism ${\alpha}$ of a ring R, the endomorphism ${\alpha}$ is called semicommutative if ab=0 implies $aR{\alpha}(b)$=0 for a ${\in}$ R. A ring R is called ${\alpha}$-semicommutative if there exists a semicommutative endomorphism ${\alpha}$ of R. In this paper, various results of semicommutative rings are extended to ${\alpha}$-semicommutative rings. In addition, we introduce the notion of an ${\alpha}$-skew power series Armendariz ring which is an extension of Armendariz property in a ring R by considering the polynomials in the skew power series ring $R[[x;\;{\alpha}]]$. We show that a number of interesting properties of a ring R transfer to its the skew power series ring $R[[x;\;{\alpha}]]$ and vice-versa such as the Baer property and the p.p.-property, when R is ${\alpha}$-skew power series Armendariz. Several known results relating to ${\alpha}$-rigid rings can be obtained as corollaries of our results.
In this paper, a novel type auxiliary active edge resonant snubber assisted zero current soft switching pulse modulation Single-Ended Push Pull (SEPP) series load resonant inverter using IGBT power modules is proposed for cost effective consumer high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances. Its operating principle in steady state is described by using each switching mode's equivalent operating circuits. The new multi resonant high-frequency inverter with series load resonance and edge resonance can regulate its high frequency output power under a condition of a constant frequency zero current soft switching (ZCS) commutation principle on the basis of the asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme. Brand-new consumer IH products using the proposed ZCS-PWM series load resonant SEPP high-frequency inverter using IGBTs is evaluated and discussed as compared with conventional high-frequency inverters on the basis of experimental results. In order to extend ZCS operation ranges under a low power setting PWM as well as to improve efficiency, the high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) strategy is demonstrated for high frequency multi-resonant inverters. Its practical effectiveness is substantially proved from an application point of view.
In this note we study the prime radicals of formal power series rings, and the shapes of them under the condition that the prime radical is nilpotent. Furthermore we observe the condition structurally, adding related examples to the situations that occur naturally in the process.
