This paper proposes a new approach to provide RF communication channel and electric power transmission to overcome the weakness of conventional tests, which may cause several problems. When an RF communication device is used to communicate between launch vehicle and launch complex in stead of using harness umbilical, it may draw the simplicity of ground test equipments, cost-saving, and the reduction of test time. In addition, if an RF power transmission device is adopted to supply on-board power of launch vehicle, it can replace expensive on-board batteries, which may be degraded easily by the repeated charging and discharging processes.
In order to realize In-line and convenient measurement for solid-gas two phase flows, Light Transmission Fluctuation (LTF) based on the random variation of transmitted light intensity, light scattering theory and cross-correlation method was presented for online measurement of particle size, concentration and velocity. The statistical relationship among transmitted light intensity, particle size and particle number in measurement zone was described by Beer-Lambert Law. Accordingly, the particle size and concentration were determined from the fluctuation signal of transmitted light intensity. Simultaneously, the particle velocity was calculated by cross-correlation analysis of two neighboring light beams. By considering the influence of concentration variation in industrial applications, the improved algorithm based on spectral analysis of transmitted light intensity was proposed to improve measurement accuracy and stability. Therefore, the online measurement system based on LTF was developed and applied to measure pulverized coal in power station and raw material in cement plant. The particle size, concentration and velocity of powder were monitored in real-time. It can provide important references for optimal control, energy saving and emission reduction of energy-intensive industries.
In this study, a novel hybrid vehicle is proposed. The vehicle has a flywheel-engine hybrid system. Flywheels are more effective as energy charge systems than electric batteries in a respect of output power density. However, transmissions to effectively drive flywheels are very complex systems such as CVTs (Continuously Variable Transmissions). In the proposed hybrid vehicle, Constant Pressure System is employed, which is hydraulic power transmission. Using Constant Pressure Systems, hydraulic CVTs are easily realized with variable displacement pumps/motors. In this paper, firstly, the proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle making use of Constant Pressure System is described. Secondly, fuel consumption characteristics of the flywheel hybrid vehicle are experimentally examined with the stationary test facility, which employs a flywheel as a load emulating vehicle inertia. Finally, the experimental results and discussions are described. Fuel consumption of 26km/L is expected for 10 mode driving schedule with vehicle mass of 1500kg.
An efficient hybrid ARQ scheme based on the rate compatible block turbo codes has been proposed, and its performance has been analyzed. System efficiency is improved by means of adaptive rate code transmission using channel information, trading off bit rate for channel codes, with resulting energy saving. The rate adaptation scheme improves power efficiency while keeping packet delay minimized. On the other hand, power dependant strategies reduce power consumption. Simulation results show that the benefits obtained are very encouraging. The modified hybrid ARQ schemes with the channel information and efficient retransmission structures highly improve the throughput performance in the satellite communication system. Therefore, proposed schemes could be used in future communication systems.
The hydraulic hybrid vehicle(HHV) is an application of hydrostatic transmission technology to improve vehicle fuel economy and emissions. A relatively lower energy density of hydraulic accumulator and complicated coordinating operations between two power sources require a special energy management strategy to maximize the fuel saving potential. This paper presents a new type of configuration for parallel HHV to minimize the disadvantages of the hydraulic accumulator, as well as a methodology for developing an energy management strategy tailored specially for PHHV. Based on an analysis of the optimal energy distribution between two power sources over a representative urban driving cycle with a Dynamic Programming(DP) algorithm, a fuzzy-based optimal torque management strategy is designed and developed to control the torque distribution. Simulation results demonstrates that the optimal torque management strategy maximizes the advantages of this hybrid type of configuration, and the high power density characteristics of hydraulic technology effectively improve the robustness of the energy management strategy and fuel economy of the PHHV.
This paper proposes a novel concept of adjusting the hardware size in a multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) receiver in real time as per the channel parameters such as delay spread, signal-to-noise ratio, transmission rate, and Doppler frequency. The fast Fourier transform (FFT) or inverse FFT (IFFT) size in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)/MC-CDMA transceivers varies from 1024 points to 16 points. Two low-power reconfigurable radix-4 256-point FFT processor architectures are proposed that can also be dynamically configured as 64-point and 16-point as per the channel parameters to prove the concept. By tailoring the clock of the higher FFT stages for longer FFTs and switching to shorter FFTs from longer FFTs, significant power saving is achieved. In addition, two 256 sub-carrier MC-CDMA receiver architectures are proposed which can also be configured for 64 sub-carriers in real time to prove the feasibility of the concept over the whole receiver.
This study introduces an example environment where wireless devices are mobile, devices use dynamic voltage scaling, devices and tasks are heterogeneous, tasks have deadline, and the computation and communication power is dynamically changed for energy saving. For this type of environment, the efficient system-level energy management and resource management for task completion can be an essential part of the operation and design of such systems. Therefore, the resources are assigned to tasks and the tasks may be scheduled to maximize a goal which is to minimize energy usage while trying to complete as many tasks as possible by their deadlines. This paper also introduces mobility of nodes and variable transmission power for communication which complicates the resource management/task scheduling problem further.

This paper analyzes a broadcasting technique for wireless multi-hop sensor networks that uses a form of cooperative diversity called opportunistic large arrays (OLAs). We propose a method for autonomous scheduling of the nodes, which limits the nodes that relay and saves as much as 32% of the transmit energy compared to other broadcast approaches, without requiring global positioning system (GPS), individual node addressing, or inter-node interaction. This energy-saving is a result of cross-layer interaction, in the sense that the medium access control (MAC) and routing functions are partially executed in the physical (PHY) layer. Our proposed method is called OLA with a transmission threshold (OLA-T), where a node compares its received power to a threshold to decide if it should forward. We also investigate OLA with variable threshold (OLA-VT), which optimizes the thresholds as a function of level. OLA-T and OLA-VT are compared with OLA broadcasting without a transmission threshold, each in their minimum energy configuration, using an analytical method under the orthogonal and continuum assumptions. The trade-off between the number of OLA levels (or hops) required to achieve successful network broadcast and transmission energy saved is investigated. The results based on the analytical assumptions are confirmed with Monte Carlo simulations.

A GDHS(Geothermal District Heating System) is a heating system supplying a group of districts with heat extracted from geothermal sources. The advantages of GDHS include saving fuel consumption as well as reducing air pollution. This paper presents a case study for the economic feasibility model and analysis of a GDHS with which central/individual heating systems are replaced. Configuring to a simplified GDHS which consisits of subsurface systems, surface systems, and transmission/distribution systems, we find out the properties of the system and the model parameters affecting the initial investment/operating costs in order to develop a classical economic feasibility model given geothermal temperature. Based on our model parameter space, we analyzed the geothermal development project of the Jejoo Island probabilistically given prior information such as the expected geothermal power, the demand size and the length of transmission/distribution pipes.

Due to the increasing demands in comfortable drivability, most motor companies are developing their own unique shift controller to suppress the shift shock induced by gear change. For a typical automatic transmission system, the dynamic constraints of friction clutch was clarified for efficient program development and major factors effecting the shift transient was confirmed by simulation study. The MIMO LQG/LTR controller was designed to control the turbine and corresponding gear speed. By establishing the control strategy recalling transient response during shift the speed controller mentioned above was used as an indirect torque controller. Consequently a new concept for a systematic design method of shift controller applicable to wide-varying systems was suggested which is time efficient and cost efficient saving a lot of experimental study.
